[QUOTE="waltefmoney"]"Buh.. buh.. the launch lineup "FlamesOfGrey
The launch line-up is good but it's not going to beat 2 Mario games, Monster Hunter and a cheaper 3DS in Japan. Anyone who thought that were kidding themselves.

You only need two mario games for it to sell.:P Even one.

Wait in system wars? Logic isn't welcome here. :P Really though the Vita will do fine, and if not then a price cut will jolt sales. I think Sony should bundle the Vita with a 2GB Memory card though, I think that would help sales as then $290 would get you a Vita, Memory Card, and Game opposed to $320 (2GB cards are $30 right?)

Didn't the 3DS have a slow start as well? In fact, wasn't that slow start so bad that Nintendo actually had to lower the price? lols...

Has a Sony handheld ever sold as good or better than a Nintendo one? The DS to PSP lifetime was a near two-to-one but it's not like the PSP did poorly. And how much better was the 3DS selling, 50k in its launch week? Not a big deal, especially since we're talking about Japan only and how Nintendo didnt have to debut its handheld against the most popular game (arguably, Monster Hunter) on your competitors platform exclusively. To me, couldn't care less about Sony beating Nintendo, handheld gaming aint my scene but it kills me how quick people write off any possible outcomes. Nobody has touched a Vita here so once they do, then they can make their opinions valid. Til then, meh.Basinboy
I may be wrong but I believe the PSP outsold the DS for its first year or so, when the DS lite came out things changed for Nintendo. The 3DS sold more in it's launch week in Japan, in March. The Vita sales aren't promising considering it's Christmas, one of the best times to sell hardware, but there is along way to go yet. Once it launches worldwide and the numbers start getting announced sometime next year, then we will know for sure how the Vita is doing.

Yeah but Sony doesn't have the same kind of 1st-party support as Nintendo does, and the Vita alienates the casual/children market with a high price point and a lack of must-have system sellers.

The 3DS was able to bounce back from its rut. The fear is that Sony won't be able to do so.

On the contrary, I think it's pretty damn good. I'm wondering why the first week sales aren't including these numbers. Also, I dunno how much they shipped.

I totally thought you were being nasty to me

its just amazing seeing cows downplay this...its not like these are american sales. its FN Japan!! if Sony can't make a splash there then the thing is definitely looking like its in trouble.

i mean, when the ps3 is having hard times cows always use the Japan card. now all the sudden Vita flopping in the region isn't a big deal...WHAT?? i mean ****...does everything have to be flipped n DC'd or completely hypocritcal over...can't y'all sometimes admit its bad, when its bad. Lems, Sheep, Hermits all do sometimes...but cows/ps3fanboys, no. but yet any mistake by the other companies they blow it up to the biggest deal ever...

It made a splash. It sold almost 400,000 units in a week and 2 days.

Time will tell how it fairs from here on out.

i think this is actually a good thing. maybe now sony will lower the Vita price to $179 within a couple months like nintendo didLP4EVA2005

The thing is, is that, they can't afford to do a huge price drop like Nintendo did. Nintendo did it because they can afford to. If Sony were to lower the price of the handheld to something like $150 to $170, it may actually cripple Sony as a whole, & Sony knows it. Wanna talk about PS4? Well, forget it, because Sony may be out of the video game industry if they were to try that.

this just proves this fact again. even with great games and features, not many people will shell out so much money for a handheld.

i guess we should give the vita some time, but it isnt looking like its gonna defeat nintendo anytime soon

Looks like we saw a similar drop in the 3DS' 3rd week (though to a much lesser extent).

Could be due to the release window being just before Christmas, but who knows.

Troll thread, abonsabo bla bla bla, whatever.

With that being said, this are indeed slow numbers for Vita, but just like the 3DS i think is fair to give it more time, it win't stop abonsabo from making more threads but in the real world the Vita is far from doom.

And just for SW sake...where are you AtariKid :P

Both you and I know that the Vita, if it was going to be a successful console as-is, would have sold more than the 3DS in its first week.

Why? Because the Christmas season attracts many more buyers than the February/March period.

The sharp drop off in the Vita's second week points to even sharper drops in the future. But of course, this is all speculative.

That's pretty awful for Sony considering the 3DS launched in March and the Vita launched in December. 72,000 for a system in its second week, right before Christmas? Massive price drop incoming.

I totally agree with you. All the same, it seems to me that Sony tried to get two bites at the apple with Vita- make another handheld(Japan goes nuts for handhelds), but also make it a supergadget(America goes nuts for gadgets). But Japan doesn't seem to be going nuts for Vita. It'll probably make a bigger splash here in the States, but like I've been saying since the nextgen handheld announcements, Nintendo has never lost in the handheld arena and they aren't about to start with 3ds. Vita can bang it's figurative head against the wall all it likes, it won't change the outcome of the next handheld fight. (On a side note, I'm eagerly anticipating the arrival of psv here- I won't go out and buy one Day 1(3ds ambassador ftw) or anything, but I will get one when I feel the cost is equal with the value.)

Reasons why you shouldn't buy a Vita.

Still overpriced. Price drop, new version with better battery etc within 6 months.

Poor games.

Overpriced peripherals.

Shoddy Vita will be dead in the water in less than a year.

I agree that Christmas should have brought in a larger spike. The high price has no doubt affected the Vita, and could account for such a huge, and quick, drop-off in sales. Still, around Christmas, this would be a little odd.

Hopefully it means we get a price-drop soon :P

Sure the TC is a alt account but you have no idea who it is. He posted numbers and a link so why not talk about that? The Sony defenders always try and deflect the conversation by just insulting the TC or accusing him of being someone else.

Its pretty pathetic to make a second account if Gamespot hit you with the BANHAMMER. Says a lot about him socially. The Vita is a great system, Coolyfett is looking forward to the US debut.

Just to compare

3DS first 3 week

3DS | 374.764

3DS | 209.623

3DS | 96.463

Playstation Vita

PSV | 324.859

PSV | 72,479

nervmeister

That official first week for Vita only takes 2 days into account as opposed to that of 3DS which gets a full 7.

The first week for the 3DS is also just two day.

I'm waiting for the price to drop, or at least $ony finally gets it through their heads and bundle the vita with their overpriced memory cards.

[QUOTE="Stevo_the_gamer"]Didn't the 3DS have a slow start as well? In fact, wasn't that slow start so bad that Nintendo actually had to lower the price? lols...peterw007

Yeah but Sony doesn't have the same kind of 1st-party support as Nintendo does, and the Vita alienates the casual/children market with a high price point and a lack of must-have system sellers.

The 3DS was able to bounce back from its rut. The fear is that Sony won't be able to do so.

Nintendo wasn't even selling the 3DS at the right price, they were testing people to see if they'd buy the 3DS at $250 and it didn't work. They were ripping people off.

The software drives hardware rule lives on.

Konami really needs to greenlight Castlevania 3DS, like right now.

Sony are really on a roll this gen. First the PS3's horrific launch and now this.

Stringerboy
The launch is going to be much worse in the US.

PSP sold 70 million WW, PS3 sold 55 million. One was profitable and the other biggest financial disaster in gaming history. Can't blame them.

Looks like we saw a similar drop in the 3DS' 3rd week (though to a much lesser extent).

Could be due to the release window being just before Christmas, but who knows.

3DS released in March, right after Pokemon B/W for DS.

Vita released in December, but it had to go up against bigger competition.
