Ha, wow, that's over the top. Hopefully it doesn't take itself too seriously, or it hits that fine line where it's so serious that it becomes funny.
The first one actually had a pretty serious plot and it was executed fine. I think they should just go all-in on the bombastic crzyness, no need for comic relief :). Apparently there is a disturbing scene in the opening in which Gabriel slaughter a family. So I think they are going for a dark tone.
