They're both the same game, but different storylines. I feel a big Oracle games vibe here. However, Japan will get the games separate, while in the West it will be only packaged as 1 game with other game being nothing more than DLC.....

I am confused about all this.
Think Oracle like OP mentioned... assuming you played those.
True, but when released in the west, it will be either of the 2 version with the other version be DLC
How do the two versions affect one another is my question. Do you make choices in one version and they affect the other? Or is it like pokemon where they are pretty much 90% the same? If it's the latter, I don't mind. But if it's the former, then that's a pretty dickish move Nintendo. Pretty much telling me I'm paying for half a game and I gotta pay more for the other half.
What is this I don't even.
Don't make me pay for the other half of the game you talked about today.
As stated, the other half of the game will be DLC in North America, while the Japanese release will be 2 games
@FireEmblem_Man: better be free DLC then. Would be shitty of them to talk about such a cool story structure as if it was a morality system when it's just a different game.

That's what I'm saying too, not to mention the title if, makes it kind of a "What if" kind of series on like what happens if this side beats the other side? Makes me wish they were sold separately as it could mean to have a secret mission for a true finale of the story.
if they are going the pokemon route why not have it physical for NA as well. How about if someone wants one side more then the other we still gatta buy the side we dont care about.
From what I've heard:
I think they should just make the game $60 in NA, opposed to the usual $40. I think that makes sense. I don't want to buy just one game and have to download the other path as a DLC.

yeaaaaa this sounds dumb. So unless you buy the dlc you cant make a choice? we have to pay to make choices in our games now.
@funsohng: Well that doesn't sound too bad if the games are complete packages by themselves.
Considering how long Awakening was, if the decision happens as early as in chapter 6, they are practically different games.
IF they don't recycle stuff. Which will probably happen. A lot.
@funsohng: Good point. :P I'm hoping they are literal complete and unique packages but Pokemon works well with the minute changes in both so it wouldn't be a stretch that this may end up similar.
Not sure how well FE would do with this model, but I'm guessing not too shabby.

I think it depends.
If the game is radically different after that choice and still is as long as Awakening, it's more or less fair because of the amount of content you get.
If not, then it's fucking scam.
More info:
It... doesn't sound that great. Though Black Night sounds more like older FE games, so there is that.

Most definitely agree, especially since both games are in the same settings, but different plots and possibly different maps.

so these are the difficulty options? If so white night it is.
Saw the trailer and was super hyped.
Then I read about all this "choice" and I'm getting disappointed. We make a choice then we have to pay if we want to make a different choice? We pay for a full game and then we pay to play out the other half of the choice? Most games just let you start over from the beginning and you just make new choices, this sounds like trying to take our money.
Also, does this mean there is only ONE save file? If there's only one version of FE:IF in NA then that would mean the other two save files are locked into that same choice (which removes our "choice"), or it means that there can only be one save file for that single choice (also this means that if we deleted that one save file, we cant go to the other path?).
I need more information, but I'm not liking what I'm hearing right now.

No.
White Night seems to be following more open structure of Awakening (and maybe Sacred Stones), while Black Night seems like one of the older ones like Thracia or FE6.
Will wait for more information before jumping to conclusions (imagine that).
If each of the games are truly on scale with Awakening in terms of content I don't personally mind paying something extra depending on how the North American release is handled (again - waiting for more information). I value my money as much as the next person, but I don't mind giving it for lots of content.
