They're both the same game, but different storylines. I feel a big Oracle games vibe here. However, Japan will get the games separate, while in the West it will be only packaged as 1 game with other game being nothing more than DLC.....

I want both in physical form... Those cover arts are awesome.

The new FE is top 3 most anticipated game for me.

True, but when released in the west, it will be either of the 2 version with the other version be DLC

How do the two versions affect one another is my question. Do you make choices in one version and they affect the other? Or is it like pokemon where they are pretty much 90% the same? If it's the latter, I don't mind. But if it's the former, then that's a pretty dickish move Nintendo. Pretty much telling me I'm paying for half a game and I gotta pay more for the other half.

As stated, the other half of the game will be DLC in North America, while the Japanese release will be 2 games

@FireEmblem_Man: better be free DLC then. Would be shitty of them to talk about such a cool story structure as if it was a morality system when it's just a different game.

Will wait for more details. Not a big fan of the pokemon structure but if the games differentiate well and are complete then I'll be content.

That's what I'm saying too, not to mention the title if, makes it kind of a "What if" kind of series on like what happens if this side beats the other side? Makes me wish they were sold separately as it could mean to have a secret mission for a true finale of the story.

if they are going the pokemon route why not have it physical for NA as well. How about if someone wants one side more then the other we still gatta buy the side we dont care about.

From what I've heard:

  • Each game is as big as Awakening
  • The DL version (and the Collector's Edition with both versions) has a decision point at 6th chapter where you choose side (if you just bought a single game on DL version and don't have the additional DLC, you can't change side ever)
  • The Japanese CE includes the Third Path DLC season pass thing, and has special cartridge that seemlessly integrates two games (no need to download DLC)

I think they should just make the game $60 in NA, opposed to the usual $40. I think that makes sense. I don't want to buy just one game and have to download the other path as a DLC.

@funsohng: Well that doesn't sound too bad if the games are complete packages by themselves.

I agree with the 60 idea though. They are charging 20 for the first dlc right? Just put it all together for 60.

Why? With Pokemon this make sense because it encourages players to trade pokemon exclusive to other versions. How does this benefit a pokemon game.

yeaaaaa this sounds dumb. So unless you buy the dlc you cant make a choice? we have to pay to make choices in our games now.

Considering how long Awakening was, if the decision happens as early as in chapter 6, they are practically different games.

IF they don't recycle stuff. Which will probably happen. A lot.

@funsohng: Good point. :P I'm hoping they are literal complete and unique packages but Pokemon works well with the minute changes in both so it wouldn't be a stretch that this may end up similar.

Not sure how well FE would do with this model, but I'm guessing not too shabby.

I think it depends.

If the game is radically different after that choice and still is as long as Awakening, it's more or less fair because of the amount of content you get.

If not, then it's fucking scam.

More info:

  • White Night: you can earn extra experience and money outside of main scenario, so you can be more liberal with your character build up.
  • Black Night: harder difficulty than White Night because you are limited in experience and money.

It... doesn't sound that great. Though Black Night sounds more like older FE games, so there is that.

Most definitely agree, especially since both games are in the same settings, but different plots and possibly different maps.

Saw the trailer and was super hyped.

Then I read about all this "choice" and I'm getting disappointed. We make a choice then we have to pay if we want to make a different choice? We pay for a full game and then we pay to play out the other half of the choice? Most games just let you start over from the beginning and you just make new choices, this sounds like trying to take our money.

Also, does this mean there is only ONE save file? If there's only one version of FE:IF in NA then that would mean the other two save files are locked into that same choice (which removes our "choice"), or it means that there can only be one save file for that single choice (also this means that if we deleted that one save file, we cant go to the other path?).

I need more information, but I'm not liking what I'm hearing right now.

No.

White Night seems to be following more open structure of Awakening (and maybe Sacred Stones), while Black Night seems like one of the older ones like Thracia or FE6.

Will wait for more information before jumping to conclusions (imagine that).

If each of the games are truly on scale with Awakening in terms of content I don't personally mind paying something extra depending on how the North American release is handled (again - waiting for more information). I value my money as much as the next person, but I don't mind giving it for lots of content.

Fire Emblem is the last True JRPG out there

Screams SNES JRPG, FFTactics on PSX

this is the last great RPG being made today look at the crap like FFXV and Persona 5

Fire emblem is true spirit of snes grinding and level ups and power ups

its the last beacon of hope for true jrpg oldschool FF fans that loved FFTactics on psx

Sounds weird. I still have to complete Awakening, though, so I don't care too much. I just have to play Monster Hunter 4 for another 500 hours first..
