looks cool but i have little faith we will see many games looking this good.

The idea behind these big and robust engines is so games can look that good without a lot of work. This is one major advantage of licensing out an engine like the CryEngine 3 or the Unreal 4 engine. The tools are much easier to use and the engines are going to be more robust yet flexible than something you develop yourself.
There are entire teams at Epic, Crytek, DICE, and ID (as well as others), that do engine work. All they do night and day is make their engines more robust and easier to use so that developers spend less time dealing with tech and more time creating good looking content.
What's cool about Epic and Crytek is that they release their engine for free to use for free games and mods. It allows modders to get their hands on a large budget engine and start producing content. It's good for the entire industry as it gets more people tools to make games, more people can get more experiance developing, and the companies who make these engines can get loyal customers.

Yup, companies like Crytek, and Epic strive to make the best and easiest possible game development experience, while offering the best possible visuals.CE3 has always been very impressive, this was really cool, that water is abolutely insane looking.
I am more interested in C3 now even for just visuals, Might end up getting it. Hope it runs well
I agree. I even used all the graphics mods for crysis 2 and it still was underwhelming compared to the first. No amounts of mods can make crysis 2 interactive and destructive like the first.I wasn't much impressed with Crysis 2. But I might give the third one a chance.

I just want more games to look like Ni No Kuni but that the plot is not about some random 10 years old kid. To me this crap is over the top.

Ah man, just looking at that engine presentation makes me wanna preorder Crysis 3 ^^
Crytek always made really REALLY impressive engines, but the Light, vegetation water and wind demonstrated in that presentation really really is Impressive.
I hope we get to see more Cryengine games moving farwards :\I really do.
shame more games dont use this engine. Hell, i'd liek to see some different genres on it too. Imagine an RTS like World in Conflict or Company of Heroes on it

Just wait till Star Citizen comes out. A space combat game using CryEngine 3, it's going to be amazing.

I'd love to see an RPG use it, like Skyrim. Imagine those on such a powerhouse engine, having great snow effects and insanely detailed water.

Thats just your basic CE2, imagine!

Yeah I remember that video or This One
An RPG would be incredible on those engines. But I would prefer CE2 for it as it seemed to have better physics and handled vegetation a bit more realistically. CE3 is a bit harsh with its lighting at times
I mean just look at it :o

I totally forgot about that game, Star Citizen totally blows every other game out of the water.Just sort of skipped around in the video, but i noticed the framerate counter was always in the low 20's/mid to high teens...

I doubt he had a fully kitted out PC for the presentation
CRYTEK IS A TRAITOR TO THE HERMIT RACE AND DESERVES NO RESPECT!!!!!Sushiglutton
They could redeem themselves yet. They already have on a technical level in my books from what we've seen of C3 so far

Was just doing my pure maste race impression :P. Would be nice if the master jerks started to come to their senses. Crytek has done and continue to do a lot for pushing tech on PC.[QUOTE="padaporra"]I agree. I even used all the graphics mods for crysis 2 and it still was underwhelming compared to the first. Ditto, Crysis 2 ultra was pretty dissapointing. Was expecting better but this updated engine version looks better. We will see in time.
After watching the presentation and this video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oTXx_WmAnmM,i can only say that Crysis 3 is meant for PC...consoles are not going to even come close to it..the amount of detail and things happening on the screen is amazing...best looking game nothing come close to it.Tessellation

The game is nearly a grass simulator if you check other vids, Every leave of grass matters and is destructible.

going from crysis 1/warhead to crysis 2, I really missed crawling and hiding in the grass and bushes, or carving every leaf and branch off and picking up the pieces and beating people with them
I have to say, besides all of Crytek's BS, and the horrible fugly buggy mess that was Crysis 2 based on their unfinished engine, it seems Crysis 3 will be a good solid tech demo of things to come like the original was.
They've massively improved everything from their Crysis 2 work. Epic has got some real competition now on the middleware front next generation.
