Modern Final Fantasy vs Modern Persona

Final fantasy became shit the second was released.

Persona, by far. I love how the arcana play into the game, and how it progresses many of the characters. FF is heavily story dependent, whilst having a rather mediocre battle system (not influenced by outside factors).

Modern FF titles blow while the old ones ruled. Exactly the opposite for Persona games.

Cause I seriously doubt XIV is better than any Persona game.

Persona is amazing, but it's held back by it's shitty and tedious combat.

While persona has better characters and a better story than Final Fantasy 14, it's gameplay is vastly inferior. I sometimes wish persona was a highschool dating sim without combat. Would be a much better game IMO

This topic is stupid though. Where do you decide the cut off of modern Final Fantasy? If anything, it would be 10 or 11 to now. Those are modern and 11 is ongoing. To answer the topic, I pick Final Fantasy games over Persona games anyday of the week.

If persona had a better combat system, i would be inclined to agree with you.

Persona, hands down, none of the FF games have offered me the quality gameplay from the Persona games, say what you will about the combat, but it's simple and it works for me, better than the convoluted mess I have found in the FF games

Honestly I tried to get into Persona 4 but just couldn't, stopped after 10 hours.

Persona has far better music, art, and stories. I really don't remember the gameplay really. The games are brought down by amazingly fucking boring and tedious social sim aspects.

Final Fantasy is convoluted, has awful characters, awful character designs, and terrible writing. The music and gameplay aren't too bad though, and it doesn't have a social sim aspect dragging the entire game down.

I love Persona combat. Its a dungeon crawler. You crawl dungeons to make the numbers go higher. You don't have to grind to beat it though, good players can exploit the crap out of the extra turn and gang up system by using elemental weaknesses. Play on hard you pretty much have to. I usually try to beat the dungeon section the first day so I can use the rest for the sweet sweet skits. The dungeons pay for your fun time, though I happen to like the grinding.

While I enjoyed the recent FF games I have no trouble saying I like the recent persona games more. Though whats the big differences between persona of old and of new?

First person dungeon crawling, and high school mostly. The DS games are pretty close to the old ones style wise.

You have Persona 3 listed up there yet Final Fantasy XII isn't despite being released 4 months prior.

I was taking 2007 as the cut off date; if I am not wrong, Persona 3 is a 2007 game, Final Fantasy XII is a 2006 game.

I don't understand what's so great about recent Persona games. The structure is so restricted and mechanic. I preferred the Persona 2 duo with it's more standard approach than 3 and 4 with their school life, "dates" and dungeon crawling adventuring. Only the music I liked on the newer Personas. With Final Fantasy I would say the modern ones start with X, and the only one I really liked was XII, so almost by default Final Fantasy wins but that's not saying much. Been disappointed with both franchises lately.

Easily Persona.

Persona easily gets my vote because "modern FF" isn't FF at all....

Of course, with FF12 in there, my decision would have been made harder, but it would ultimately have turned out the same lol

It's sad to see Final Fantasy XIV ARR to be associated with the XIII trilogy. It deserves so much better, even if it did drastically fail on its first attempt.

On topic: go Modern Persona. I cannot find myself to get into the retro Persona titles. on the contrary, go retro final fantasy, the modern games suck (save for FFXIVARR)

I guess it keeps the list fair. If FFXII was on there, then International Zodiac Job System would be as well (since you listed FES, Portable, and Golden) and those two trump any Persona game by a mile.

Then again, I'd hate to see FFXII/IZJS bunched up with XIII so I think you should leave it as is lol.

Persona wins no contest, the only decent FF games since 2000 were FF12, FF14 ARR and FF Crisis Core.

I've loved every Persona game that has come out this gen. FF is garbage, although I haven't played 14 and probably never will.

Persona 4 is my favorite game ever.

Old FF > Old Persona and Modern Persona > Modern FF.

Persona series over modern final fantasy any day. just better plot/character/traditional JRPG gameplay and it even got dating sims ! P3FES and P4G : WIN

I don't understand this fascination with Persona... I played 3 and 4 ... neither are particularly clever games.... rubbish stories.... class-room weeaboo nonsense. that being said, combat was decent, music was often great.... but damn tlak about a game aimed purely at teenages ... not a big issue... but jesus.

I enjoyed both, but B-grade RPG's at best. and talk about unbalanced combat system.... Persona 4 becomes so broken you dominate everything.
