This is awesome. Even if the 360 fails to even beat xbox numbers this time around I will be happy to have own a 360. I'm just glad the Microsoft is getting japanese developer support even though the japanese people don't want to support it. Those guys are truly missing out on an awesome system.

I'd rather have more singleplayer RPGs from him, I don't really care for MMORPGs.

My problem...

Mistwalker is "going" to do. We haven't even seen what they are doing yet. Blue Dragon, not here yet. Lost Odyssey, not anywhere. Cry On, who even knows. Archaic Sealed Heat, who even knows++.

I really dislike when companies start rattling off all these titles when they're hardly even done with what they originally announced.

Anyway, guess it's cool... wonder if MS failed to get Level 5 back for True Fantasy Live Online after they burnt that bridge last time? :?

That bridge been burned and the ashes dissolved in the ocean. If level 5 ever makes a game for the 360 or any future microsoft system I will be shocked.

That was only because they felt level 5 was just using the money to make a ps 2 game which they probably did. I can't think of a reason why Microsoft would want to have a bad relationship with any big time japanese developer.

I guess I own you an explanation why I feel that a game similar to Final Fantasy XI would kill my excitement over this newly annouced Mistwalker MMO.

Imagine a game where there is so much xenophobia between players that it's impossible to play the game without picking sides. Now imagine a game where everything you do is dependant on a set monster timer that is as long as 3 months. If someone else takes the monster you were waiting for 3 months to kill, you'll have to wait another 3 months just to attempt to kill it again.

Think that's it? How about a game where all the best items are controlled by a group of players who play 24/7. They determine how much you have to pay for the items if you want them. Had enough? Lets try a game where you cannot solo. Fighting an even level bunny will spell death for you as you take an exp hit, meaning you can potentially lose a level. I bet you think we're done here, right? Wrong. Want to be that kickass Samurai with the big sword? Guess what? The party you almost had a chance getting into doesn't want you because there are entirely too many melee jobs in the game to find room for you, thus making your job worthless.

This is FFXI in a nutshell. If Mistwalker is replicating that experience, forget about seeing me participating.

Didn't fit in the Xbox lifespan would be a very easy reason to can the project. It wold be a "last gen" title well before it's time.

I don't think it had anything to do with Level 5's PS2 titles.

I hope not because I like it when people have integrity, but i still don't understand why microsoft would want to damage a relationship knowing they were going to be making new gaming systems in the long run.

Question for you...

What MMO is good for "solo". Honestly interested, b/c I want to try an MMO (maybe WoW), but I don't want to base my play time on the mentality that I have to meet at certain times and all this other BS that is associated with the social aspects of MMO titles. Sorry for calling it BS, seeing as you prolly enjoy this genre.

Could have been Level 5 wanting to continue the work now and not return to it later (say for the Xbox 360), MS may have wanted that approach (maybe release TFLO early on the Xbox 360 lifespan to increase it's potential market). Difference on vision, leads to a falling apart.

I would consider that a more viable reason than accusing Level 5 of bad practices, when they haven't shown that kind of action any where else.

Personally I find that WoW is the best soloing MMO out there. There are other games that allows you to solo (DAoC and EQ2) but WoW's questing system is what keeps you playing. Still doesn't change the fact that the social aspect is WoW's strength.

As for getting into the genre, if you find that meeting up and doing things with people at a set time is complete BS, MMOs may not be for you. Currently companies who put out games like WoW and EQ think that an "epic" endgame can only be achieved from hard raiding dungeons that require around 10 to 100 people (100 is the worst case scenario). If you truly want to get into MMOs but hate what it is currently, my suggestion is just to wait and see what innovations may occur within the genre down the road. Currently the MMO game plan seems to be shared by just about every developer.

Argh, see that's what I was already kind of thinking (TFLO actually sounded like they were going to allow for this type of gamer to be on the world).

Here's my reasoning be calling it BS btw (take it for what it's worth).

I don't have much time to dedicate to gaming anymore. I don't want to feel obligated to meet at certain times with other gamers to play a game for hours at a time (maybe I have to take my laptop home from work, maybe my wife and I decide to watch a movie etc.). That's not a fun experience to me, nor is getting ragged on for not being there when you said you would (hell I sadly experience this with other's on my team for games that are just online (ie Gears)). I don't want my game experience to completely hinge on another gamer, and in the case of MMO many other gamers. Another issue I have with MMO is the fact that they don't end. I have a back log of games (around 30 now) that I want to finish (and that actually have definitive endings), playing a MMO I'm going to be stuck saying "well am I done? Guess so...".

Bingo. WoW will be fine to level up solo all the way until you hit max level. . .that's effectively what I did (I was sick and tired of ground leveling after a year of FFXI). You will eventually meet people that you enjoy playing along with. The best bet is to level up solo until level 40ish, and then see if you can't find a decent size guild that way there will always be people on when you get on. That being said, WoW is the best solo MMO on the market. They do give you the option of after you hit max level playing in the PVP ranks (which you can do decently solo or at max, you can get 5 good people and do very well). However, just realize because high level PVP is endgame stuff, be prepared to spend months of your time doing it. All MMO's are made to keep you playing, and WoW is no different.

Your best bet might be to try a MMO like Guild Wars. It's one that caters to the "Weekend Warrior". The level cap is low, it's free to play online, and it's easy to level up solo or in a group.

There's also a solid PVP island as well that you do use for all your battling needs. However. Don't expect to get the same experience that you would from WoW. Guild Wars is made a bit differently. But it might be a good fit for you.

Believe me, I understand completely where you're coming from, otherwise I would have been cramming WoW down your throat as the greatest game ever. I enjoy WoW enough to play for the past two years but it suffers from the issues MMOs typically suffer from.

To be quite honest, I barely play WoW. I tend to play 3 to 4 times a week, randomly most of the time. My sessions can last between 5 mins to 3 hours. I used to play more than that and actually participated in the raid game. Hell, I used to lead a raid guild. Trust me when I say that you're not missing anything. Imagine not only relying on another gamer to play the game but dealing with his/her crap as well as other people's crap. I had to play big daddy for adults. Hell, I was put into situations where I had to be the mediator of couples' marriages that were being destroyed over WoW and the raiding game.

WoW's enjoyment relies on the people you play with. There are plenty of people within the game that are ultra relaxed when it comes to the way they handle dungeon raiding and activities. However, much like life, not everything will end pretty.

My advice to you is if you still want to give it a try, make sure you do your research, get some friends together and try to find an environment that you can enjoy. Also remember that the race to lv 70 is not everything.

[QUOTE="mythrol"]Bingo.

The thing with Guild Wars is that it's a tournament game that has a piss poor PvE (Player vs Environment) component. In order to get the most out of Guild Wars, you still need to devote time to joining a PvP guild and compete in the Hall of Heroes. I mean, lets face it, the "Quest" portion of Guild Wars is just painfully boring.

This is awesome. Even if the 360 fails to even beat xbox numbers this time around I will be happy to have own a 360. I'm just glad the Microsoft is getting japanese developer support even though the japanese people don't want to support it. Those guys are truly missing out on an awesome system.

Ok, Square got crap after FF11, that MMOPRG really killed their art style and games, now Mistwalker started very early to dissapoint !!! they should start a MMORPG after Lost Odyssey 12 or something, Cry On 14 and Blue Dragon 25

Really dissapointing news, i hated pc because it turned what could be 10/10 single player experiences to 2/10 mindless wandering - time eating - strory absent MMRPG's craps

Hopefully they have plans for Lost Odyssey 2 or something, or PS3 just got THE best deal for JRPG's
