I never have claimed Sony is the savior of gaming just that it isn't as bad as M$. M$ on the other hand I think its a pretty harmful company, monopolistic, FUD and shady tactics is what their business is about.

Good to see. They need to learn it the hard way.

What they've done with Windows and Xbox are terrible.

All this opinion states is that the Xbox division with 20 billion is not big enough to save the total Entertainment and Devices division that has $364 million in operating income if it should collapse .

I think there is some truth to this but i dont know if dying is the right word or just that there is finally a legitimate contender to windows and the pc.... still theres no way that serious business and writing will be dominated by touch screen inefficiency... there is very much still a purpose for the pc platform.

Incorrect again... the article clearly states that the xbox brand is a success but that its 365 million dollar section of microsofts business is small by comparison of its other divisions which total into the billions... the article is implying that despite xbox being a rousing success that it cant cover the entire company.

For MS to compensate that big a loss with just the Xbox division everyone on the planet should have to buy at least two !

Thats because he only accepts numbers that slant to his bovine desires.... but ill go ahead and quote directly from the article anyway... "9. The Xbox was never going to make up the slack, and Microsoft can no longer afford to keep investing in it. In a year of relative gloom, Microsoft's Xbox has become a big bright spot for the company. Kinect is great technology, people are still buying the console, and it's been a great entry point for Microsoft to take over the living room. But, for a company like Microsoft, Xbox isn't enough. Microsoft had $21 billion in operating income last year. The Entertainment and Devices division, which is home to the Xbox had $364 million in operating income. So, as nice as Xbox is, it's not going to be enough to boost Microsoft if the rest of the business collapses."

Lol you're the one who added the word "massive" which is a testament of your fanboyism. Nowhere in there it says or implies "massive", it's just your wishful thinking speaking.

by that logic the ps3 surely isn't a ps2 either. The Wii is the closest thing to ps2. Very successful for Nintendo. The 360 has been a success. Is wedged a large market share away from Sony whether people here like it or not.

As for the "people will lose their jobs" argument..........welcome to the economy?

IF all illicit drugs suddenly dissapeared from the country, people would lose their jobs. I'm so glad we have drug addicts and alcoholics, they are great people because they provide jobs!

srsly.

Yahoo is about as reliable as VGChartz.

We're Yahoo...We've laid out a worse case scenario for MS. We've sort of been keeping track of it, and honestly we don't know if any of it is actually happening, but we took the time to write yet another article in the long line of articles we have written, that show we know pretty much nothing about the computer and gaming industries.

I think I'll hold onto my MS shares for a while longer.

Now that's more like it. Your reading comprehension skills are improving. In that context a big bright spot is spot on (no pun intended) considering how lousy their other areas are doing the 360 stands out but, as the article also implies, the 360 succes is barely noticeable for a company like this hence the gloom aspect of the whole news. The 360 is a succes for M$ but a moderate one that won't save them in the end it's what the article suggests.

When will these idiots realize that the ipad is a SUPPLEMENT not a replacement to a desktop. My company bought a lot of Ipads over the last couple of years as well, only to find out that they cannot replace desktops and at best, is a decent email and messaging device. For almost anything else you need a real computer, ESPECIALLY in the Enterprise sector. Microsoft will be ok.

Fanboys just can't help themselves, I guess. They can't possibly limit their irrational hate to SYSTEMs in SYSTEM Wars, let's instead argue multinational corporations, the workings of none of you have a clue about, and whose videogame divisions represent a minority (in MS's case an infintesimal minority) of the company's earnings.

Yes, MS's core business has long term challenges to its' continued dominance, but for crpies sakes, this is a YahooFinance blog in which most of the sections begin with something along the lines of "We don't know". Why not just post what your local gas station attendant thinks next time? The only portion relevant for this forum is the Blurb about XBox... and it labels the division a "Bright Spot".:|

Seriously fanboys, if you're going to play Company Wars Rule Number One should be: YahooFinance = VGChartz.

Is not such a massive success. According to the article it is a success but a modest one at best.

But, the TC stated that one of the reasons MS is doomed is because of Sony. That is not at all what the article says. It says that the success of the XBox brand has not been enough to offset losses in other areas.

Yes, I'm not questioning what the article says. Just the TC's interpretation of the 360 being a "massive" succes.

Using the word massive falls in line with the context of the phrase "big bright spot" perfectly fine.... your inability to control your rabid fanboyism is now wreaking havoc through yet another perfectly acceptable thread of discussion. Dont refute the fact that you have zero understanding of the article because youve made it painfully apparent.

That is true. Even if Windows 8 does turn out a failed experiment and adoption rate ends up low, it won't destroy them.

[QUOTE="TheEroica"][QUOTE="kuraimen"][QUOTE="TheEroica"]mas "BIG BRIGHT SPOT" sorry ill say that instead... The Xbox 360 has been a big bright spot of success for microsoft... happy?

Now that's more like it. Your reading comprehension skills are improving. In that context a big bright spot is spot on (no pun intended) considering how lousy their other areas are doing the 360 stands out but, as the article also implies, the 360 succes is barely noticeable for a company like this hence the gloom aspect of the whole news. The 360 is a succes for M$ but a moderate one that won't save them in the end it's what the article suggests.

It makes sense only if you focus on a single phrase like "big bright spot" but ignore the complete context of the article. For basic reading comprehension the whole context is important not just an isolated phrase. That's why selective reading is a pretty normal behavior for fanboys like you.

Point 1.
Isn't this rather because there have hardly been games pushing PC hardware? All speculation. I wouldn't be surprised to see PC sales slowing down over time due to development costs rising exponentially.
Point 2.
This has always been a worry for MS. Since there still isn't a very userfriendly and moneyfriendly alternative to Windows, this is also not happening yet.
Point 3.
Consumers are not all idiots. After repeating this pattern of Windows mishaps for some time, people were anticipating Windows 8 to be kind of a 'filler' OS till we see a significant upgrade. There is hardly any good reason to upgrade to Windows 8. A bad product selling poorly does have little to do with Apple... Is the writer working for Apple?
Point 4.
Is about phones, not PC's.
Point 5.
Is also about phones. Does the writer have a phone fetish? I thought Windows phones were crap to begin with.
Point 6.
Office is dying because there are volunteers making free office programs that work just as well. MS has been overcharging for office 'apps' for decades, it was going to die eventually. Nothing to do with Apple again.
Point 7.
No idea.
Point 8.
I'm not a microsoft freak, but 7 and 8 seem to boil down to "If MS stops selling their products, nobody is going to need the things they do for their products." Ok.
Point 9.
The Kinect is horrible as well, so why not mention that that is going to end as well?
Point 10.
Is just a joke I guess.

So, basically I don't really find the article very interesting and feel like I wasted time reading something so off. I agree Microsoft will have to adapt fast to extend their reign over the PC, but it is filled with wild speculation around some of the writer's wet dreams.
