While one may argue on which next generation console has been more successful so far between PS4 and Xbox One, it’s pretty obvious that Microsoft considers the launch of its own machine a success, and considering the numbers it’s hard to blame them.

One of the best ways to gauge the success of a platform is to watch the flow of career opportunities offered to support said platform after its launch, and in that field Microsoft seems to be on a roll, especially in the past week.

During the last seven days Microsoft Game Studios offered 31 different positions across multiple teams (in a total of 50 jobs currently offered, most of which offered in the last 30 days) including Lionhead, 343 Industries, Turn 10, Rare and more. That’s a situation that has almost no precedents for the studios. Nine new opportunities have appeared just today, on a Sunday.

It’s also not too surprising, as when you have a platform that sells as fast as the Xbox One did at the beginning of the next current generation, you have to hurry and provide as many games as possible to keep that momentum going, and to do so you have to bolster the team. More bodies mean more man-hours put into the games, and ultimately faster releases.

We’ll have to wait and see what Microsoft Game Studios will be able to deliver in 2014, but they’re definitely grabbing all the manpower they can in order to surprise us.

Greats news to be hiring that much and all for the gaming side of things. Well done, MS.

Probably should be considering they announced no games after E3. Dat PS Quad domination is starting to bite.

Didn't they just shut down a studio in Vancouver?

Now lets see the games. Cant say I care for anything from Rare or Lionhead.

BTW, did you message me your gamertag? I got Ryse Saturday night.

They did. Also it turns out Microsoft Studios Osaka doesn't actually exist either. https://twitter.com/xboxp3/status/412300967694987264

Pretty embarrassing turn of events.

How stupid do you have to be to eat this spin? They closed studios and sold off Bungie despite the success of the 360.. Now they are opening studios citing a successful hardware launch? The dots don't kinect here. Obviously, they saw how many games are in development for PS4 and probably freaked the fuck out.

Lol, you're stupid beyond words. How can you spin job openings in the gaming devs as a bad thing? You just enjoy making yourself look like a joke, don't you?

They shut down and lost a bunch of studios last gen... I don't have much faith in MS because of how they handled first and second party studios last gen.

and sold off Bungie

To whom?

To Bungie. They are independent now and are working with Activision as a publisher.

They actually opened/bought developers before the launch so now they already have a similar number to PS4. Recruiting more shows they have big plans, what none indie games are in development for PS4 in 2014. Less than for Xbox One. They don't have anything to worry about for the next few years at least.

@edidili:

Microsoft bought them back in 2000. They bought the independence of their company back and moved on to work with a different publisher.

So yeah: Bungie bought Bungie from Microsoft ;)
