@Chutebox: The wii controls are widely regarded to be the best control scheme for Metroid Prime Trilogy, and Prime Trilogy in turn is considered the best demonstration of the wii controls.

@jg4xchamp: Eh, I'll live with poorer pacing if the game design justifies it, and in this case it certainly does. And see, I look at both the world's or environments or what have you in Echoes as one unified whole, not two disparate ones stitched together, which is why I feel it is an even better fake world overall than Prime's.

Look, I love Prime, and I think it's immaculate. I just think Echoes is even better.

@samusarmada: On the contrary, it's a far more complex and labyrinthine game than Prime ever was. Prime just gets points for the novelty- in terms of game design, Echoes is better in every possible way.

and certainly not from lesser franchises like Zelda

Yes, I can finally play! That music just gives me goosebumps. It's also been so long since I last played any of these.

I didn't know you bought a Wii U! What do you think of it?

Its a pity they didn't include even classic controller support on the wii versions.

Haven't bought one yet, just planning on what things to buy first when I get it! Never got around to playing the Metroid games

The pointer controls for shooting are way better than using the game pad. I haven't played metroid but from using it in other wii games it hands down beat analog sticks for aiming. It's a shame they never found a way to keep those controls around.

Agreed. Why couldn't they just up the resolution to 720p which even the most basic emulator can do. Or at the very least remove the crappy motion controls.

I was thinking about getting it but I still have the GameCube games and a BC Wii, and I just got done with another playthrough of Metroid Prime just a few weeks back, and and this will be on the Wii U eShop for a while now so when I make a dent in my back log and have an extra few bucks I'll get it. If it had been ported to the Wii U rather than emulated and included GamePad controls and off-TV play I'd be more on it... then again I'm very curious about playing the first two games with Wii controls, and only $10. I have a few days to think about it.

Totally bought it. Never got to experience the originals or the physical trilogy release, so 10 bucks for 3 games is pretty darn awesome.

Hoping Nintendo continues the trend with some more great Wii titles.

I bought it even though I have the disc version. Big fan of this series, and the redone versions are the definitive versions to play (the controls are great imo though they take getting used to). I like having it like this so I can launch it without disc swapping.

Is there anybody who is going to play them for the first time? That would be crazy XD

Already own it.

Would honestly rather play the dolphin version of the game. Can play it with a gamepad, higher resolution, and all that jazz. Anyway Prime 1>/=2>Pootie Tang. Aka the true Metroid Prime Trilogy.

:o I didn't even consider this... I HAVE to try this.

But playing them with a gamepad would be a definite downgrade. Gonna look for a bluetooth thing.

I will buy this once I finish work today and get home. I hope I have space on my WiiU's HDD for it, sigh. I don't have an external and can't afford to buy one.

Well you're probably going to get stuck for a while two or three times if you play first to last. They are less handholdy than we are used to now and you'll need to pay attention to your surroundings.
And they'll be rather slow paced. And the controls WILL take some getting used to and you need to make sure they work OK in your room.
So... you will need to approach it with some patience, it's not a fast paced action game.

Everything else is pretty much fantastic about them. I mean these games are old but they hold up very well. The music, sound effects, visual styIe, the way story is implemented and the progress build is good. The action and puzzles are just very well designed. A different league than most games that are released this generation. It's also one of very few FPS games in which it does not feel completely impossible to pull off platforming with some confidence. Just the tone is phenomenal and unique to this series in gaming. I really want them to make a new one even though that seems unlikely to ever happen. I think you'll end up wanting that too, because either Nintendo makes a new one, or it's likely game over for this subgenre.

I don't know if you should play all three in a row... that seems like a bit much of the same stuff. It would be a bit much for any series.
I'd just play the first and then stay away for a month or so before starting the next.

I assume you're familiar with new age Castlevania style? SotN, stuff like that?

Even in the 3D Prime games, it's very much that. Exploring a large, interconnected world, find power-ups, solve puzzles. It's a bit strange at first to have such a small combat focus in a FPS, but it works amazingly well to immerse you into a world. The Wii controls in particular make the game smooth as butter.

I bought all three games for $10 on sale. I'm ready for this.

Even though I own the physical copies (Metroid Tril, SMG2, Punch) it's nice to preserve them since my poor Wii is approaching a decade in age.

Expect to play games that actually benefit from motion controls lol.

To me, they're like Zelda games, but better and with a sci-fi setting. Great atmosphere, great level design, puzzles, bosses, the whole deal. Awesome soundtracks too.

You're in for a treat.

And bro, if you've never played a Metroid game, you MUST play Super Metroid. One of the best 2d games ever made.

Honestly, i'd be hard pressed to choose between the first two so its more like this for me:

Echoes=Prime>>>>>>>>Corruption

1 and 2 were awesome, two was like a good extension of 1. 3 was... weird. It felt too full of NPC players, but it was still fun in the end.

For me it was 3 > 2 > 1.
It felt like the series was slowly growing into its own entity and I agree the NPC stuff was weird but also kinda exciting that it was expanding in weird ways.
Dunno, it made me very curious where the series was going. Didn't 3 also have the ship interaction? 3 tickled me.

I'm split on this. Obviously a higher resolution would be nice but it would also mean that the game would have to be reworked as a wiiu title. This is simply playing the game native.

I wouldn't expect them to go re-work all the assets or anything like that, but to simply run the games at 720p? That's not too much to ask for.

If I can run the games at 1080p on an emulator, Nintendo can surely give them to us at 720p with little effort.

Updating models and textures, that's a task, rendering at a higher resolution on better hardware should be a non-issue though.

I love both Prime and Echoes but Echoes Dark World for the most part was meh (except for the bosses). Corruption was the weakest of the three.

So, how long is this discount going to last?

Btw, has anyone found all those artifacts with special vision and whatnot on their own and without a walkthrough?

P.S. The second stage of the last boss fight was a bitch to finish. I almost thought I'd never do it.

Bruh... BRUH.

You're right :(

Still, it's not a bad game, it just doesn't live up to the sick standards of the first two. And at the time of release, to me, it completely justified Nintendos choice for going with motion controls.

@ConanTheStoner: The issue with Corruption is not that it's a bad game, because it's really not. It's a fun enough game and a well made first person shooter. The issue is that it's so far beneat what Prime and Echoes accomplished, so so SO ordinary next to them, it completely underwhelms and comes off far worse than it really was.

It's Retro's fault, they set those amazing standards for themselves with the first two games.

But man, between Corruption and Donkey Kong Returns, they really did stumble on Wii. Thankfully they seem to be back in form with Wii U.

Same. But with motion controls and 16:9 instead of 4:3, I absolutely jumped on this deal. Gonna play them again now. Metroid Prime is one of my favourite games.

By the way, how the hell can you people say that Echoes is better than Prime? Sometimes, I don't understand opinions. 1 > 3 >> 2.
