...and it's 912p as confirmed by this Eurogamer article by Digital Foundry:

http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/digitalfoundry-2014-vs-metro-redux

The original plan was to ship it at 900p, but in the meantime there has been a SDK update which, I guess, was not enough to boost the res to full 1080p, but it's cool (nudge nudge, wink, wink) that they squeezed 12p! ;)

So I guess the new standard for Bone from now on won't be 792p but 912p. Full HD is now just 168p away!!!

12 pixels? Aw yis we hit the jackpot.

#4 Posted by GrenadeLauncher (5071 posts) -

Dat parity though.

This and a port of a 12 year old Gamecube game running at 1080p definitively show the new SDKs are making all the difference. Eat that, cows.

900p is 1600x900 = 1,440,000 pixels in total. Resolution of Metro Redux is 1620x912 on Xbone, so 1,477,440 pixels in total. That's 37,400 pixels of difference. They were right to laugh, though, that boost in itself is funny, it's just they were wrong about the technicals.

EDIT: I've just calculated the boost in percents, it's 2.5% resolution boost.

I'm not retarded, good sir. no need to explain that.

12 lines is the same as 12 pixels, seeing as they are both unnoticeable when you are sitting at least a few feet away from your screen.

On PC, you MIGHT notice it.

#13 Posted by _Matt_ (8924 posts) -

@Salt_The_Fries: These crazy new resolutions... Can't keep up.

Apologies sir, I was just making sure.

But yes, the difference is still marginal.

What's up with the weird ass resolutions on the xbone? Keep at 900p. But i'm sure cows will rejoice over this, sinc ethey little else.

Anyway, 4K on PC. It's starting.

#18 Posted by shadiezz2012 (2595 posts) -

so i take it that since MS's Xbox lost exclusives they are now making exclusive resolution ?

912p is better than 720p so thats good enough for me.

#21 Posted by PAL360 (26925 posts) -

Not bad, considering it looks awesome and runs at 60fps! That said, i like how discretely, 1080p30/60 turned the only respected performances on PS4.

12p added by the Cloud(tm)

#23 Posted by gpuking (2888 posts) -

So first devs debunked DX12's 1080p boost, now the June 10% sdk boost only got it to 912p, what's next for lems lol? Shit even Ryse 2 is coming to PS4, I can't begin to imagine the dire situation that lemmings are in now.

I doubt they used the SDK update at all. It would be 1080P if they did. They were probably almost done with the game before the SDK update came in. Not really a big deal.

Dunno if you are seriously, or just plain dumb ? how can this "boost" even if minimal be considered bad, if may ask ?.. it was announced to be at 900p. (also even many modern pc's cant even run metro at those setting and archieve 60 fps fyi.

And as for dx12 it hasnt been debunked. Only cows spinning this/twisting this in to some kind of favor, dude ps4 is stronger we know that - why in the effing do you still need to justify (wth?), and as for the dx12 thing, also they said it wont be a "MASSIVE PERFORMANCE BOOST".. but it will help, but to what degree - ye, that none of us know yet dude - could be minimal, could mean faster/easier development on certain games.. we dont know yet still.

And as for spreading misinformation, like you always do imo should be bannable, but i guess mods doesnt really care about sw or the forums in general anymore it seems. sw is filled with fanboys - cant even discuss games anymore.

#31 Posted by intotheminx (702 posts) -

I've stated in the past Xbox should just do the 900p thing since games are capable of looking great at that resolution. They should put more emphasis on other things.

What's with these ridiculous resolutions? I mean....why? Why not just keep it at 900p and use that "slight extra power" on either performance (fps) or a bit more visual flair here and there? "12p" make no difference. At all.

It's a home console with less horsepower than a mid rang pc. Complaining about the resolution of such a weak machine is about as ridiculous as yelling at the dog because it can't talk...

#35 Posted by GravityX (715 posts) -

MS can't send engineers to every developer to help harness the power and use the unique next gen architecture of the X1. Plus some devs have more resources (time and money) to get their last gen tech up and running on a true next gen machine.

Seriously this is more a commentary on developers than X1. You have Wolfensteun, Destiny, Forza and other in 1080p on X1 so this should tell you something.

as always another misleading thread by xbots.

#38 Edited by Strutten (1205 posts) -

@wis3boi: Many pc struggle at those settings - atleast when taking 60fps in perspective.. so whats your point? its last-gen yes, but this game is still being for reviewing/benchmarking gfx cards etc. i have a hard time to get your point.

It seems like people thinks that "last-gen" is some sort of low tech or something (or just that engine's from last-gen, should be cake on next-gen), just a reminder dude they aint and, this gen barely started - and again metro is still being used as a benchmarking tool.. considering the engine and so on, they did some awesome work at 4a on these next-gen consoles.

You do realize at the end of the article it actually says the Xbox has and better shimmering effect so apparently the Xbox has the better imagine quality like mostly with all games.

""The biggest difference comes from the level of 'shimmer' generated by post-processed smoothed-off geometry - this is marginally more noticeable on Xbox One."

I wondered when you'd crawl back here. Made me laugh when you whined to Phil Spencer about forums being "toxic" while you spammed unrepresentative gameplay screenshots here to try and bail out the Xbone.

Wolfenstein had a dynamic resolution which dipped more on the Xbone, Destiny is designed to be at parity at all consoles including last gen and Forza 5 looks like Gran Turismo 4. They struggled to get Diablo 3 at 1080p on the Povertybox. Diablo 3. This should tell you something.

Lol that's not a positive, it's not a shimmering "effect", it's a side effect from the post processing like how you get artifacts and such with other process.

Also the Xbox has consistently had worse image quality in the vast majority of games, not sure where you've gotten the idea contrary to that especially in this game as the image is objectively better in the PS4 version because of the higher res.

Actually not true at all most games even at a higher resolution on PS4 when it's 900p vs 1080p the Xbox One has shown to have the better image quality and better detailed textures. games Like AC Black Flag, BF4 and Thief all had better image on Xbox One. The difference between 900p and 1080p is so slight it makes no difference really at all but if you have a game with better detailed textures then even at 900p it looks better then a game at 1080p with less detailed textures.

Wow you're trolling right?

DF:

"In motion, it's the Xbox One version that suffers from the greater temporal aliasing - a flicker artefact on thin geometry and power-lines while panning - but also a general muddying of enemy outlines on the horizon. A post-process anti-aliasing method is in place for both versions, but it's simply not enough to pull the Microsoft release out of the muggy mire as far as image quality goes - it stands as a real shame."

"Put simply, the assets and effects are identical for each next-gen platform, but the added pixel definition on PS4 spares it from the distracting edge-crawl on thin objects that proves to be an issue on the Microsoft side."

Same textures, better image quality on the PS4 and if you really enjoy crushed blacks and off colours then you can adjust your TV to get exactly the same experience that Xbone users are stuck with because of the sharpening filter anyway.
