The fact that both the Wii U and PS3 are outselling the PS4 ANYWHERE should be concerning to Sony. And if I'm not mistaken the Wii U has been beating the PS4 for months now in Japan.

Poor PS4 can't catch a break in its own home country.

The PS4 has not games now and the PS3 basically beat the wii u basically all year long in 2013.

The PS3 this year is 1 k less than the Wii u so far until not,and the wii u is 300k+ behind the PS4 even that the PS4 started the year in February 21 when release,the wii u benefit from Mario Kart and even so its sales are down compare to last year.

Why should sony be concern is not like the wii u is running away with victory is barely selling as well,all consoles in Japan are doom.

Yeah lets ignore that the 360,3DS and Wii U are on the same number of countries as the PS4,and that sony shipped as much units as Nintendo and MS combined with just 2 consoles.

Yeah, it's sorely lacking games.

@tormentos: come on torm the they dont need to ship more wiiU because its not selling fast as a 360 or DS and why would MS ship a bunch of consoles when they are having a 23 country launch next month.

So if you were the President and CEO of Sony you wouldn't be concerned that in Japan your new console is not only slipping behind a competitors inferior product, but your 8 year old product in sales as well? Personally I would be throwing money at Japanese game developers, trying to encourage them to start making games. They could at least remaster some of the more successful games from last generation. That seems to be working well in other territories.


And I'm not saying "panicked" I'm saying "concerned." Microsoft is the one that should be panicking but that's a different topic.

And if they started throwing money today, the games would magically show up tomorrow? Yeah PS4 sales are slow in Japan, but they also don't have any big Japanese titles at the moment. TGS is right around the corner, we'll be able to see if anything looks promising or not. We can save the doom and gloom until after they get some more Japanese-centric titles.

They knew the Japanese publishers were skeptical well before the PS4 launch.

At the Tokyo Game Show in September 2013, senior Sony executives told Eurogamer that they decided to launch PS4 in February because that was when Sony expected more games to be ready for its home market.
"Sony just wants to make sure that when PS4 launches in Japan there is a good line-up of titles for Japan," the console's lead architect and Knack creative director Mark Cerny said. "Perhaps you could say that a few western developers have been more aggressive in readying titles for the hardware." But despite the extra time that good line-up of titles for Japan failed to materialize.

Learn a few things about console history? The N64 launched with 3 games in Japan and more than doubled the Super Famicom in sales the first year. The PS2 was never outsold by the PS1. The Mega Drive never outsold the Sega Saturn. The Famicom beat the Super Famicom for a brief period of time. But once a console overtook it's predecessor that was it. This getting beat by little brother stuff is new. PS2 over PS3, Wii over Wii U and PS3 over PS4 is a new trend. And not a good one.

This is funny how Wii U owners want to gloat about the PS4 being outsold by it in Japanese whereas everyway else the Wii U is getting battered left,right and center by the PS4.

The reason the PS4 LTD is higher than the WiiU's LTD in Japan is because the console had a really successful launch, but crashed after launch while the WiU has not really decreased much in terms of weekly sales numbers recently while the PS4 has continued it's decline.

I don't think anyone really gives a **** about Japan's taste in gaming now. Maybe Nintendo more than the others though.

I think the PS4's problems extend farther than that. One thing that will always hurt the PS4's sales potential in Japan is that it's not really fit for the current japanese market. The PS4 will never get as much software released on it as it's predecessors and when appealing software releases for the console it may be way to late to save the console in the Japanese market.
