Didn't know the Souls games were that big in Japan.

The PS4 is selling exactly how I predicted it. Big boom followed by a huge crash. I don't think it will recover until Final Fantasy 15 or Kingdom Hearts 3.

Let me get this straight. The Vita is outselling the PS4? Wow. I remember the predictions of certain people on here saying that quite the opposite would happen in regards to the PS4's sales.

i think sony should secure monster hunters and a lot of rpgs for ps4 to keep the sales up.

I'm not sure the Japanese market values consoles enough for any game to really push console sales. They've firmly moved to the handheld/mobile market.

Nah, FF15 and KH3 will move a significant amount of consoles upon release.

The most those games will provide is a week or two bump at most if the console continues to fail to appeal to the Japanese.

If they don't get more exclusives that appeal to the Japanese? Yes. Games move hardware in most cases and that is especially true for Japan. The Wii U had better upfront sells because Japan really likes 2D Mario games and it launched with New Super Mario Bros. U. PS4 currently has no Japan exclusive games that is for that audience. Will that continue for 3-4 years? I don't work at Sony so, I don't know.

I do however doubt that because companies like Namco will move series like Tales to the PS4 in the next year or two.

Well, the Wii is neither officially sold nor officially tracked in Japan, and the 360 is 360, so... yeah, I'd sure hope so.

Saturation point has been hit; more importantly, it's now in its fourth year on the market. All systems begin to enter decline in their fourth year. PS2, DS, Wii, GBA, PSP, PS3, no exceptions.

dark souls 1 sold around 700-800k in japan. the game total sales were 2.3m, japan is a big chunk of market for this game

It didn't sell 800k. it's total sales were ~400k, combined across both platforms.

Hand Helds usually sell a lot more than consoles in Japan, while it's almost the opposite in NA.

I'm talking about Dark Souls sales in Japan. it sold about 400k. The 2.3 million sales are worldwide sales.

Actually not true. Handhelds have consistently outsold consoles in North America as well, including in this current generation.

Maybe the 3DS, but I find it hard to believe the Vita is outselling the PS4 in NA.

I mean handhelds as a whole outsell consoles as a whole in the US. And the highest selling individual system in the US each generation is a handheld as well. I believe the only exception was the PS2 generation, but, well, PS2, you know.

I don't think the series was very popular originally (why Sony didn't publish Demon Souls themselves in the West), but after it became popular in the West was when Japanese gamers took notice of it, surprisingly.

In spite of the PSP's resurgent performance near the end, it did not ever outsell the DS's LTD, even in Japan.

Even if the PS4 gets the predominant software support over the WII-U, I honestly see it performing not that much better than the PS3 did.

What games are the Vita buyers buying?

PS3 and 360 have reached the point where thousands will buy games but the hardware won't increase. PS4/X1 will have to somehow convince the previous console owners to continue on consoles. That seems to not be happening so far.

I don't think the Japanese need another home console, though. There's absolutely no incentive for that. The kind of games they play don't need fancy graphics anyway, and games there don't sell on graphics alone.

I think that's more likely, yes. IIRC, Demon's Souls sales that i remembered last were 150k, but it's entirely likely that it sold more since then.

PS4 is still rolling guys. All the sales will contribute to SONY being number 1 this gen.

Ps4 will get a nice boost next week from mgs gz but probably after that it will be a very long time till it gets another boost.

it needs a huge injection of japanese games then I think it should get back up to speed. I think there was an article recently about japanese devs getting games out sooner than expected. I'll try and dig it up.

GZ will not "boost" ps4 sales in japan. IF it does anything it might make the hat poke out of the bushes. Not to mention GZ is also on every other console that is released there. (Not wii U of course.)
