Where were you when i tagged you on last NPD where the PS4 outsold all Nitendo hardware combined in US and unlike Japan where gaming has change platforms more to phone and tablets on US consoles still sell.

I replied and said good going, the PS4 deserves all its success, Sony got a lot right in the pre-launch period, and they are now reaping the benefits.

See, the thing is tormy, I may be a Nintendo fan, but I appreciate Sony and Microsoft too, and I like it when they do well, and I can accept it without making bullshit excuses. This is not something you can do, sadly.

I think it is clear by these sales that the Japanese will not stand for being ripped off by online fees. The Xbox 360 went down in flames, and now it looks like the PS4 will share a similar fate there.

Final Fantasy 15 need to come out already, THATS when we'll know how much increase the PS4 will start getting after its release and thats when we'll know if Japan still into console gaming or not

Final Fantasy XV won't come out until late next year... by then, the PS4 will be too moribund for there to be any effect on sales. Sony needed a system seller for the PS4 this year. They screwed up the pooch pretty badly there.

FF15 is gonna decline from 13 which declined from 12. The PS4 is tracking behind the friggin WiiU, console gaming is dead in Japan. Save yourself the worry and accept it now. All praise mobile.

Nomura dawg. Not a single bad game has come from him when he's at the helm. Not to mention that Toriyama is out of the picture, the same man that ruined Parasite Eve and created such abominations as FFX-2 and the FF13 saga.

FFXV is a game that Nomura has been brainstorming since FFVII you know.

I mean, that's true, but none of that has anything to do with market trends. I have no doubts XV will be the best Final Fantasy game in quite a while! But at the same time, the demographics for high end console gaming in Japan simply do not exist.

Meanwhile the WIi U is still a failure worldwide and 3DS's sales are mediocre.

Your already forgetting the PS3 eh? remember when the PS3 was pretty much always at the bottom of the Japanese lists for months and months till FF7 Advent children came out? that was beginning of the big change note it wasnt even a game and it made the system sell a lot and thats when things started to change after that with many releases till today and while the PS3 isnt always at the top of lists of these weekly sales reports it has done pretty good for itself in Japan, same will work for the PS4 since it just barely came out in there and there arent any Japanese RPGs yet, as soon as they come things will start to change.

The PS3 had JRPGs back then but in this case the PS4 just came out in Japan, things will change once the JRPGs start rolling out ( look at the vita for a fine recent example ).

FF7 advent children had the FF13 demo with it, that's what caused the spike in sales that week. The PS3 has been out for 8 years and its still tracking behind the Wii in total sales. The PS4 is going to decline heavily compared to the PS3. Many big franchises saw decline on the PS3. There is much more games competition from the 3DS and Vita for the same kind of games that made the PS3 more successful and the increased dev costs of the PS4 make it a less attractive option for Japanese centric developers. Frankly, I see the PS4 selling 6.5-7 million units in Japan when all is said and done. That's terrible.

You got to note that the PS4 has FF15 which has been ranked to be Japan's most wanted game and i havent even mentioned Kingdom Hearts 3 which was pretty popular on the PS2.. PS3 had no original Kingdom Hearts game at all.

You're pretty much the only one I see dwelling on the fact that the WiiU is a sales disaster. I think everyone with a brain has accepted that already. But in a Japanese sales thread, why can't you focus on the Japanese market. We have NPD and Chart Attack (or w/e the European tracking thin is called) to shit on the performance of poor selling hardware and we do. Why are you so eager to bring that here? (rhetorical question, I know the answer)

Those polls mean nothing in terms of sales. FF15 has been high on that list since it was 13 Versus. Games lower ranked on that poll will outsell it. 1 game doesn't change a consoles fortune unless it has some miracle explosion like Wii Sports or Monster Hunter. Certainly a declining franchise like FF isn't going to do that.

Not even Infamous could elevate PS4 above PS3.

Lighting's Sega is declining not the entire franchise dont confuse the two but anyways we shall see how big the franchise is once FF15 comes out.

PS4 is doing fine it just needs few more JRPGs to get it started i mean its over 7 million worldwide its over 2 mil over its direct competition so i aint that worried tbh

@ActicEdge: What's your point? The PS4 has outsold the Wii U in WW sales and nothing will change that. Why do people keep posting sales of Japan when the market is almost completely irrelevant. The PS4 and Wii U will be close in Japan and everywhere else in the world the PS4 will continue to stomps it.

Final Fantasy 15 won;t do that much for the PS4. The PS4 fate has in Japan has been already determined.It will sell worse than the PS3 in Japan by a couple of million(mostly like 2-3). Now we just need to wait and see if the PS4 ever beats the WiiU's LTD in Japan.

@charizard1605: They help dictate 3rd party content and the longevity of a platform, I'd say they mean a lot. The thing is the PS4 is selling well the Wii U is not.

Yea, the government introduced a bunch of new measures to try and stimulate the economy (pumped a bunch of cash into it) and now have a debt to GDP ratio of almost 230% and the government increased the sales tax from 5% to 8% (the first time in almost 2 decades) and it will increase to 10% (so it will have doubled) by October of next year. This has meant that the traditionally thrifty Japanese have cut way back on high street spending and thus the slump in the last couple of months in the media crate figures.

The Xbox 360 had compelling games and sold terribly. I think culture is definitely at play here. The economy in Japan is in poor shape, but as you pointed out to @blue_hazy_basic that has been the case for some time now, and I think things are actually starting to improve on that front. I think that Sony is really mimicking a lot of what Microsoft did last gen with paid online and reliance on western 3rd party studios, and the Japanese just are not interested. It will be interesting to see how much things turn around when the PS4 finally starts getting a decent library.
