Actually that dispute has been settled over a year now.

Then why isn't Amazon selling Nintendo consoles?

They aren't? I'm sure I just saw a 3DS being sold on Amazon... Get your facts together man lol This is SW!!!

They were selling them directly during the holiday season, but since them they have reverted to status quo.

I am curious to see how many consoles it moves. In my opinion, 300USD is pretty steep for a Mario Kart 8 machine.

Right, I agree. What I mean to say (and what I had planned on saying before being rudely interrupted at work -- :P ) was that I'll be curious to see how many Wii U consoles Mario Kart 8 sells. I don't imagine it being a major system seller, because I don't think one game alone makes a console unless it changes the landscape all together.

The one notable exception we all know and love to love (or love to hate) is Halo. Bungie made the Xbox relevant. I don't know if Marko Kart 8 can do the same thing for the Wii U.

Well, I would disagree- we know of multiple other franchises that have similar system selling power: Dragon Quest, Pokemon, Super Smash Bros., and yes, Mario Kart as well.

I don't think Mario Kart by itself would have sold much of anything at all though, so I agree. However, at this point, I believe the Wii U's lineup has a critical mass of great games you can't find anywhere else, and Mario Kart 8 will just be the tipping point.

wii sports alone sold the wii.

its possible.

I think the buy one get one deal Nintendo has going, in conjunction with the other bundles they already have out there for Wii U consoles, is going to have a bigger impact on sales than just Mario Kart coming out. If you like Nintendo games, that's every bit as good as a big price drop on the console itself.

And right, that's the other point. Will Mario Kart 8 be the straw that breaks the camel's back, so to say. I think it's going to help, certainly. We'll see how much. It would be really great to see the Wii U hit 199USD, too...

I agree it's possible, that's why I cited Halo and the Xbox. Just like Halo, there hadn't been any FPS games on consoles NEARLY as good. Wii Sports is another example of a completely new kind of game. Do I agree it alone sold the Wii... The jury is still out. It was bundled with every Wii for quite some time, wasn't it?

yea...it was inluded in every wii....

that game alone sold the wii. you cant deny it...

also...halo did well enough to beat the gamecube. but not to the level wii sports helped the wii.

Right, it was included. So because it was included by default, and not by choice, how can you so confidently say it alone sold the Wii? It's not about me denying it as it is about you supporting it.

Halo did enough to take a company that made operating systems and put them on the map for gaming. Actually, you can thank a developer that formerly had made games almost exclusively for Apple's computers. Doom was for chumps. Marathon is where the real magic happened. Bungie's sale to MS was a big deal.

@musicalmac: The Myth series was on the PC. Probably the Mac, too, but they weren't a Mac exclusive developer by any means.

I didn't say they were exclusive, I said they nearly exclusive.

The team focused on the Macintosh platform, not Windows-based personal computers, because the Mac market was more open and Jones had been raised on the platform

Credit Wikipedia

The team being the founders of Bungie.

Inspired by the shooter game Wolfenstein 3D, Jones wrote a 3D game engine for the Mac.[11] Bungie's next game was intended to be a 3D port of Minotaur, but Jones and Seropian found that Minotaur's top-down perspective gameplay did not translate well to the 3D perspective, and did not want to rely on modems.[9]Instead, they developed a new storyline for the first-person shooter that became Pathways Into Darkness, released in 1993. Jones did all the coding, with his friend Colin Brent creating the game's art.[12] The game was a critical and commercial success, winning awards including Inside Mac Games' "Adventure Game of the Year" and Macworld's "Best Role-Playing Game."[12]

Pathways beat sales expectations and became Bungie's first commercial success.[8][13] Bungie moved from a one-bedroom apartment to a studio in Chicago's South Side on South Halsted Street;[10] Seropian and Jones's first full-time employee, Doug Zartman, joined in May 1994 to provide support for Pathways, but became Bungie's public relations person, honing Bungie's often sophomoric sense of humor and irreverence.[14] Bungie composer Martin O'Donnell remembered that the studio's location, a former girl's school next to a crack house, "smelled like a frat house after a really long weekend" and reminded staff of a locale from the Silent Hillhorror video games.[15]

People don't realize how much they should thank a formerly Apple-focused developing team.

Bungie's next project began as a sequel to Pathways into Darkness, but evolved into a futuristic first person shooter called Marathon. Not only did it introduce therocket jumping mechanic to gamers for the first time (then known as "hopping"), it was the first control system where players could use the mouse to look up and down as well as pan side-to-side.[16]Pathways had taught Bungie the importance of story in a game,[17] and Marathon featured computer terminals where players could choose to learn more about the game's fiction.[18] The studio became what one employee termed "your stereotypical vision of a small computer-game company—eating a lot of pizza, drinking a lot of Coke" while the development team worked 14 hours every day for nearly six months.[14]

Yes, rocket jumping appeared on Macs before anyone else had even heard of it.

Wow tangent. Sorry, my friends. In any case, I still don't know how much Mario Kart 8 will do to move Wii U consoles. But given what we know, the Wii U is the most intriguing as far as new games in concerned, and the Xbox One is the most intriguing in terms of counter cultural media endeavors.

i dont get your logic... it was included with the wii...thats why eveyone bought the console...for the game.

Was Wii Sports the only launch title available for the Wii? Was that the only game people could have potentially purchased a Wii for? Your logic is actually the issue here because it presumes too much and analyzes the details surrounding the Wii's launch too little.

you think it outsold the ps3 and xbox because of red steel and twilight princess?

wii sports was clearly the game that made the wii.....

I'm going to have to agree with Floyd here- Wii Sports was what sold the Wii.

GG Sony, GG Microsoft, GG Valve.

Mario Kart in HD. 20 million WiiU's sold by E3, 50 million by the end of the year.

It will be insanely funny if that happened. Anyway I expect the WiiU to sell anywhere from 5 to 10 million this year and maybe more if consumer demand increases more than I think it will . This is including the first couple of months of this year.

It's funny and same time it's also important. The consumers will lose in the end if Nintendo is knocked out. Monopolies are never good.

Sold by Piety Tech and Fulfilled by Amazon. That's a bit of a difference. It's like eBay, other sellers are selling on Amazon, not Amazon themselves as they no longer stock Nintendo consoles and it seems like handhelds too.

Not to fan a fire, but I could say the same for the other systems. :P

Actually no you can't, the other systems don't have Mario Kart lol

I don't like to rag on the PS4/X1 but playing the field is fun. :P

It really doesn't have much at all as of now. You could say the same for any console ever, but I feel that the PS4 gets way too much praise for being a Killzone machine haha. The WiiU is just too easy to ridicule since you know what you are going to get with that.

I just checked amazon, it seems he's right. It's third party sellers, they used to sell them, along with digital codes. Not anymore.
