Looking back: Game of the Year 2011 --- what's your pick?

That is a tough decision but I picked Arkham City.

Resistance 3

Uncharted 3 for me. Not as good as the 2nd, but still good enough to win GOTY. Tells you how good UC2 was

Skyrim aka Godrim

Good year indeed, especially for RPG's. I think for me it would go:

1. The Witcher 2

2. Shogun 2

3. Dark Souls (even though the version I played technically came out in 2012)

None of those. Sonic Generations was not only my GOTY for 2011, it was my game of the gen.

Skyrim. Best game last gen.

Modern Warfare 3.

Definitely Batman Arkham City. That's my game of the generation alongside Donkey Kong Returns from 2010

Dark Souls wins easily for me, although a lot of those other games are amazing too. Loved Skyrim, Deus Ex, and Arkham City.

I still say Portal 2 may be the only game last gen to have not a single flaw in execution... may not be everyone's cup of tea, but it's damn near gaming nirvana, Sp is extremely satisfying, Coop is so well realized, hell even the story is fun, has excellent characters and best of all.... it actually has a memorable ending. Valve did well with that franchise.

Interesting choice. That's probably my favourite platformer last gen.

What a great year for gaming. Almost half of my top 10 comes from that year.

Really, I never saw any game in the years Arkham asylum and city come out as better. I'd say uncharted 2 was as good, and the witcher 2, but those games are awesome. I'm loving origins still.

Modern Warfare 3 should be on the "worst of 2011" list

Batman and Dark Souls were my two favorites by quite a wide margin, followed by Skyrim in a distant 3rd. If I had to pick a favorite between those two... Batman Arkham City.

Mine was Uncharted 3 and Disgaea 4 was my second choice

BF3 and LA Noire

Then don't post in the thread. It's not that hard.

LA Noire. It was fresh and unique concept and a great homage to both classic adventure games and film noir. It definitely had it's flaws but core investigative gameplay kept me hooked the entire way through.

Plus, you can't beat driving through 1940's downtown LA, in '47 Oldsmobile S98 Convertible, listening to Smoke! Smoke! Smoke! That Cigarette by Tex Williams, with the black and white filter on. Can't fucking beat that.

I am split between Bastion and Dues Ex. Both are great games.

Yeah that game is seriously underrated. It got right down to what sonic is about and it did it so darn well. I love it

I'm surprised Dark Souls is winning only by a slight margin over Batman of all games... Dark Souls isn't just my game of 2011, but it's my GotG and of all time.

Arkham City everything that was good about the first one was built upon and made better.

I don't usually vote for Action RPGs, but Bastion has the best way of implimenting Difficulty. And its a shame we'l never see anything like that again.

Dead Space 2, I didn't get to play most of the games in the poll at the time, but man, when i played Dead Space 2, it was... a perfect gaming experience for me, loved it from begining to end, shame EA killed the hype for 3 and preety much sabotaged it with it's own marketing

I still stand by Portal 2. Brilliant game with unlimited play-ability thanks to user created single and co-op maps.

Unfortunately, only one of the best games are leading the 2011 poll. The second best game, Rayman Origins, is at 2%. I thought Arkham City was alright, but I wasn't really a big fan of the Arkham games; I just never really got into them or was excited by them. I can understand that they were soundly designed games which is amazing for the legacy of superhero games, but I just found myself sort of bored playing them. Stealth sections were really cool though.

Back in 2011 I would have undoubtedly said Skyrim, but that was all just post-release hype... Looking back, The Witcher 2 was definitely my favorite game of 2011.
