In all fairness though, I think the PS3's hate back then was a bit ott. It was very much a joke of a console around here, yet even at $599 it had good value, and it did sell pretty well.

Totally agree. And look where we are today. Blu Ray killed HD DVD and the PS3 had a lot to do with it. I bet until Blu Ray players dropped to sub $200, a good percentage of players were actually PS3's.

The funny thing is that even though the PS3 was largely a laughing stock for the first couple years after RIDDDDDDDDDGGGGGGE RACER... the Sony fanbase was just a rabid as they are today.

I have been an HDTV owner since 2003 2004,by 2006 i already have 2 and by 2007 3,in fact my first flat screen was a Vizio 42 inch 1080p and i pay like $1400 for it on a black fryday sale.

Onn i owned already a samsung one and a panasonic projection which was like 50 inch all HDTV..

Wanting an HD games and not HD movies was completely stupid,in fact when the 360 came out so few were the HDTV out that the xbox 360 didn't even have an HDMI port just component cables..

So is not like what you say didn't apply to the xbox 360.

Fact is on 2006 the PS3 was a incredible better value than the xbox one is today by miles,the PS3 had expensive tech,the xbox one has weak ass tech and blu-ray is not expensive any more.

Uncharted release on 2007,not even 1 full year after the PS3 and dethroned Gear of war as the best looking console game,so yeah it didn't took endless years..

In fact no game on xbox 360 is close to how great Warhawk ran,hell Resistance since launch 20 vs 20 on dedicated servers,yeah you know what you kiss MS ass now for yeah Resistance ran them on 2006,while Gears of war was a lagfest on 2006 over its lag galore and host advantage issues,Resistance was doing 20 vs 20 lag free..lol

Warhawk on 2007 32 players huge maps,tanks,plane jeeps and a big ass scale which make Titanfall stages look small,and could be play on 256k connections that good the code was,what about Resistance 2 1 year latter.? 60 players online that is BF4 like,8 players co-op unheard of in the console market and still unmatch by any 3 game..

Most people who talk sh** about PSN and he PS3 are those who claim to own one but never did,or plain own fanboys,fact is PSN had more games on servers than live did,and they ran smoother than P2P on xbox live while been FREE..

Those 3 bold parts there prove that you probably never owned a damn PS3 and i tell you why now..

The PS3 exclusives did out perform xbox 360 exclusives and in many cases the awards for graphics are there to prove so,the xbox 360 basically didn't win best graphics after Gear or War 1..

Had Wifi which on xbox 360 again was $99 dollars.

Those extra $200 on PS3 got you a truck load of crap the xbox 360 completely lacked,as well as giving a next gen platform,blu-ray alone more than justify it,i mean Resistance was 7.1 uncompresed loss less sound,on 2006 not even PC were there on 2006 unless you had some mighty ass PC with blu-ray and a great GPU and CPU and we are talking about more than $2k for it..

Comparing Blu-ray vs Kinect is a joke,blu-ray give you several advantages Kinect is just a gimmick,one which MS will drop soon unlike blu-ray which MS ended up adopting for their last console.

The battery thing is kinda silly on Microsoft's part. Before the Xbox One launched I already had 2 charge and play kits because I hate having to worry about keeping batteries in the house. Hell I had people over this past weekend and had to take batteries out of my Direct TV remotes so 4 people could play Mario 3D World and Nintendo Land. I wouldn't call the use of batteries in 2014 a deal breaker, but how about we get with the times

I'm always impressed with that developers were able to achieve on a PS3. GTA 5 for example. 2006 however, I was over frustrated with all the weird DRM tactics that they were doing on the PC around that time. I remember StarForce totally screwed me for a while, it prevented me from writing anything to CD/DVD and took me forever to realize that it was the problem. I had some terrible experiences on PC during that era, soured me for a while. I just remember how bad it sucked that GT5 kept getting delayed but overall I enjoyed my PS3 just fine. I don't remember all the talk of PS3 never going to have any games, guess that's when I was normal gamer back then and didn't read stuff that nerds talked about, I can see why now that I started reading them. You guys are just *** up in the head.

XBone isn't gonna make a comeback OP. It doesn't have the worldwide appeal or first party studios Sony has to stage a comeback. You have to remember that the PS3 was outselling the 360 from day one worldwide despite being $200 more, something that the XBone isn't close to doing. XBone is getting owned worldwide by the PS4 with no signs of relief.

Let it go lems, the XBone is not the PS3, going back 8 years to damage control the Xflop One is the height of desperation guys.

I'll take being able to swap out fresh batteries in 10 seconds over sitting with my wireless DS4 plugged in for an hour to recharge it because the crappy internal rechargeable battery only lasts 5-6 hours any day.

Back on topic...The PS3 fell on it's face at launch, and didn't really recover until 2009 with a price drop, and the slim version. The only people who can't see this is blind fanboys.

The XBone is doing the same, but can easily recover with a price drop, and game support. It's far too early in the generation to claim any kind of victory for the PS4. Sure it's the more powerful console, but the PS3 was considerably more powerful than the Wii. Yet the Wii kicked it's ass by having games that appealed to the broader mass of people.

It was an epic time for gaming, that Brawl moment at E3 is forever burned in my memory.

The PS3 got a first price drop in 2007,and in places like Japan and mainland EU the PS3 outsold the xbox 360 even with a higher price,so is not quite the same for the xbox one to recover..

5-7 hours is about the norm, or are you saying mine, and my friend's DS4s are all defective? Actually why am I even arguing about this with you. Just do a Google search and there are tons of complaints about the short battery life on the DS4.

Yeah the first price drop was in 2007, but sales didn't really take off for the PS3 until after the 2009 price drop. The one spurred by Activision threatening to stop making games for the PS3 if the price wasn't dropped. Why did they threaten this? Because no one was buying the PS3, and Activision wasn't selling games on the console.

Why is it not quite the same for the XBone to recover? Do you really think that the PS4 is just outselling the XBone because of it's massive library of launch games...lol? We are 6 months into these two consoles lives. Trust me it wouldn't take much for the sales to tip the other way.

Looking back, it's impressive that Sony was able to save the PS3. There is no doubt that they screwed up with the architecture. I don't think the Cell itself was a bad idea, but the fact that they had to cut corners at the end of development of the PS3 was. The gimped expensive GPU, and the split RAM pools. Looking at the latest titles for the PS3 shows that devs and the ICE team at Sony really did magic with the PS3.

Actually, if I'm not mistaken, in 06 (when the ps3 came out) the cheapest stand alone blu-ray player was near 1000 bucks.

Funny how PS3 won the generation with the best games though.

1. While most are "okay" with the AA battery route that MS went with the X1, it is still ridiculous. The X1 is the ONLY next gen console that doesn't come with rechargeable batteries out of the box. It was more "passable" in 05/06 because the Wiimotes also didn't come with rechargeable batteries either, but the Wii-U tablet does, and you can't put the short life of the DS4 off on the rechargeable batteries because the Wii-U Pro Controller also comes with rechargeable batteries, and probably have 2x the life of X1 controllers powered by stand alone AA batteries.

2. I do agree with your point with the ps3 taking off in 09 "to an extent". While I believe that in 09 is when people and critics started noticing the ps3 uprising, I believe that the ps3 actually started it's uprising in 08. The 360 had only 1 blockbuster game that year (Gears 2, in which many believe to be the worst in the series), while the ps3 not only got it very 1st system seller that year (MGS4), but also received it's very 1st superior multiplat (Burnout: Paradise) along with LBP, and Resistance 2.

3. The Wii kicked EVERYONE tail, not just the ps3. The Wii was way cheaper than both HD twins, and offered a gimmick that was very intriguing to the consumer.
