Let's face it, Xbox is dying.

With next-gen consoles right around the corner, Microsoft is going to have to do some major changes if they want to stay on top next-gen.

Xbox 360's exclusives this gen were, well, terrible. The only one I could actually enjoy was Halo, the rest of the games on there were multiplats. Sony could easily gain the edge in multi-plats with the PS4, and since they already have a large supply of exclusives.....

The pay-to-play online service is a severe ripoff. Sure, I pay for it, because I have the money. But lots of people don't have the cash/aren't willing to pay $60 to pay online. Once again, Sony already has the edge with free online. If they just fix the mistakes they made with the PS3, then I will have no problem switching to PSN.

I've already gone to PC because of a lack of exclusives on Xbox, but I could also switch to PS4 next-gen instead of Xbox. If Microsoft doesn't change their many flaws, I could see Xbox getting 2nd or even a distant 3rd place next-gen.

What about you, SW? Do you think Xbox is dying? Does Sony have the edge?

Sony for sure has the momentum right now, but the Xbox is not dying.

How is the Xbox 360 dying when it has games while PS3 just has mediocre interactive movies?

Just, no.
#6 Posted by R4gn4r0k (16256 posts) -

I don't think it is. Kinect is really popular atm, the next Xbox will be too I think.

I'm not getting another Xbox that's for sure. My 360 was my first and last MS console. I didn't like paying to play online, I didn't like RROD, I didn't like the disk scratching and I certainly do not like the lack of games and focus on Kinect lately.

#7 Posted by quickposter (1708 posts) -

Its difficult to say without facts on the table. Microsoft being the newcomers are definitely the most likely to make mistakes since they don't have the expirience Nintendo or Sony do when releasing consoles. I do think charging for XBL and a heavy Kinect focus is going to hurt them though. And there has been a long history of manufacturers screwing up their third major system release but given Sony's recent decline overall I would say MS have the advantage. But this is going off now and not next.

In my opinion, Kinect was just a big gimmick to attract more casuals. I really hope the next MS console isn't Kinect-focused, and even if it isn't, I'm still going with Sony next-gen.

Seriously, if you think that PS3 has games, then get out. All they have nowadays are mediocre interactive movies that tries to be games. If you want the PS3 experience, then go watch a movie. It'll be better than those crap offerings the PS3 has.

what's an Xbox? Is that a pornographic chat service or something?

Yeah, I feel the same way. I'm not interested in move, kinect nor the Wii for that matter. Motion gaming is just not my thing. It was fun for a while but then you start to realize how shallow it is.

I already bought a PC and 3DS and am thinking about buying a WiiU too. I'll most likely get a PS4 too but I'm not sure since I haven't even seen it :P

Might get a Vita too if it gets some more support, that is what I'm going with this gen.

I won't say Xbox is dying until we see what MS has to offer with the 720. I agree that they need more exclusives but Quality>Quantity. They just need to snatch up and create new exclusive franchises like they did at the beginning of the 360's life while improving existing ones. Xbox Live Gold needs to be revamped. If we're paying to play online we should be able to: 1) Get free games weekly like PS+ 2) Get discounts at least on par with Steam 3) Create servers in games like BF3 for free 4) Have automatic updates like PS+ 5) Have a ton of free DLC (Gears 3 already started this) They also really need to improve it for developers. Get rid of the expensive fees for updates. Get more Indie devs on board. Also, nobody likes the Metro layout. If we're paying for Gold we should be able to determine our Dashboard's layout. (Blades FTW)

Both playstation and xbox are dying. The only viable platform is PC simply because it has the best games, you can use it for just about anything and sitting on a nice comfy computer chair is much better than sitting on a couch. Xbox is dying faster though simply because it lacks any good games for the most part. I was at a friends house about 2 weeks ago and playing on the Xbox and PS3 was almost unbearable, and there are absolutely no games that interest me. I was going to buy an Xbox a few years ago simply because of Gears of War, but that released on PC a year later, so buying an Xbox360 was nothing more than waste of money.

#21 Posted by Chozofication (2734 posts) -

Xbox has always been dead, just throwing out scraps every now and again.

I think the scraps have run out.  MS wants to make its next machine a social media center.

#22 Posted by jer_1 (7451 posts) -

Dying of boredom maybe, sure. The only system owners that aren't dying of boredom would have to be PC more than likely.

M$ is too stupidly wealthy to be dying, just the same as Sony and Nintendo. They're all doing fine I would presume. PC however is having it's own little rennaisance, best platform to game on right now without a doubt.

#28 Posted by TheDidact (3981 posts) -
If MS just has to have ads in the next Xbox, they should give us a way to personalize them. For example, we should be able to choose what our favorite Games, Genres, and maybe even Movies or TV shows are, or just what type of a gamer we are. Say somebody says they're interested in Halo 5 and a new trailer premires. They'll have instant access to it on the Dashboard. That way we can prevent core gamers from seeing ads for stuff like Kinectimals and Shake it Up and prevent Soccer Moms from seeing ads for stuff like Gears of War and The Walking Dead.

Next thing you'll see is that Nihilistic will be bought by Sony and they'll develop all Vita exclusives.

Lems not wanting M$ to die are like the slaves who didn't want slavery to end. They create a type of Stockholm syndrome that is hard to overcome but ultimately will be good for them. Embrace it lems.

Disagree to many Xbox fans now. I know WAY to many people who will not even consider a Sony console. No they won by releasing 1st, grabbing the market by the balls and squeezing the hell out of COD Franchise and Halo! Unless they mess up really badly in the forth coming generation! (HOW CAN THEY) on FPS players alone i think they can continue to hold the Market from Sony. Look if people are willing to buy multiple Xbox consoles even tho the old one failed through no fault of there own! I think we have a loyal and semi blind fanbase. Also charging for online i just can not stomach it at all! Yet many do and continue to carry on feeding Microsoft. Great console great games and a big fanbase! If Sony messes it up they will easily lose Europe or at least the UK to Xbox this coming Gen.

The PS3 stomped all over the 360 in 2009 and 2011. In 2012 it was only slightly behind.

The moment cows see Sony's estimated "shipped units", they automatically jump to the conclusion that it means "sold units". Then they go berserk and proclaim victory.

I think the issue is kinect. Kinect was originally suppose to come to PC less than a year after launch. The reason it hasn't is because its now one of the best (if not the best) selling point for the 360. Making multiplatform would hurt the xbox sales.

We must act quickly, some say their growth rate follows an exponential function.
