Killzone Shadow Fall better than the reviews suggest

Obviously it all comes down to opinions, but I'm still very surprised to see Shadow Fallreceive some of the reviews it has.

It's a pretty solid game. It's not amazing, I definitely think it deserves an 8.0 though, or to be more specific, an 8.5 on the old scale.

The game has been criticsed for its single player yet praised for its multiplayer, similar to Battlefield 4. I think KZSF was marked more harsh than B4 to be fair.

SINGLE PLAYER: Pretty good. Then joy meant of the campaign is a bit inconsistent. There are some awesome moments, and some dull moments. The story is pretty enjoyable. The campaign is a lot better than most reviewers have suggested.

MULTIPLAYER: Pretty good fun. It's a mix of KZ2 and KZ3. It's definitely the strong point of the game, and the mp alone could give this game an 8.0

BOTZONE: A good alternative if you ever wanted to try out new things offline or if your internet wasn't working. Feels like you're playing real people.

GRAPHICS: Very impressive.

GAMEPLAY: Very smooth.

Nah, it really isn't.

Well duh

When most reviews spend less than a paragraph on multiplayer you know they rushed the review.

definitely. only the jelly think otherwise.

Has there ever been a multiplayer shooter that died this quickly? This must be some kind of record.

The reviews suggest its a good game and thats exactly what it is, a good game. Not a great one but a good one none the less. Its time people stop thinking a 7 means bad or average. Fun fact: I had more fun with many games rated 6 or 7 than with some rated 8 or above. The Darkness 2 for me was a way better game than Borderlands for ex.

It's very common for Playstation games to quickly die online. Playstation consoles are always better to buy a few years after launch because you never miss out on any multiplayer games

It's one of the dullest FPS campaigns I've ever played. It's just not good. Previous KZ games are a lot better.

#10 Posted by drummerdave9099 (821 posts) -

You could say the same thing about almost every game ever though, and could easily come up with good things that the reviewer missed or didn't seem to like.

@freedomfreak: lol yeah okay, I've been playing Killzone SF and Halo 4 campaigns and Killzones is much funner. How on earth is it dull, there's a lot of gameplay mechanics such as cover and all the other functions with the owl. The game play is far from dull.

I never use that owl. I don't see how that spices things up, nor do I see how having a cover system makes the gameplay less dull.

It suffers from the same problems Black Ops 2 does. All this forced walking around with nothing happening. Too many unskippable cutscenes, leading to very annoying checkpoints. The encounters that come along your away get more and more tedious.

Not to mention they do stupid shit like having you carrying around those power nodes and those free falling parts.

The only level I enjoyed was the second one.

I think its worse than the reviews. I'm not even talking about the single player. In the multiplayer, the weapons are boring and all seem the same. They removed 2 classes. Killzone 2-3 had cool weapons--not this one. The maps are claustrophobic and lack the atmosphere of previous Killzone games. They removed the cool british space nazi accents and replaced them with generic voices. They removed a lot of the weight of the guns to make it more cod-like. The weapons aren't balanced. Don't believe me? Play one of these claustrophobic maps when the entire team only uses shotguns. The team with more shotguns wins.

Its time for people to stop fooling themselves about this game. It sucks.

I trust this post a lot more than the OP

I think GG should move on from KZ

I would give KZ SF an 8.

From what i've played of it, 7 feels right.

An FPS should have a good single player and multiplayer. Otherwise, it should just not include the single player component if they really want to focus on multiplayer. Whatever's included must deliver or it gets points docked off- simple as that. There's both improvements in the new KZ and some downgraded aspects. At the end of the day, it's a good game, but it's nothing groundbreaking or outstanding. The campaign relies too heavily on close corridor combat. I like KZ games, but the single player in this one is kind of dull from what I've seen of it. The multiplayer is good, but it's standard KZ fare making it a good offering but not great. It may seem worse to BF or COD due to a lower review score, but that isn't necessarily true either because different reviewers reviewed those games and each had different expectations. Actually, all three of them have problems keeping them from being great games imo. Hopefully Titanfall breathes some new life into the FPS genre, and judging by what I've seen and heard and the amount of critical acclaim it got at E3, I expect it to do so.

I just watched my Dad play it from the starting where your with your dad up until the dam/forest level, although graphically for the most part very good the animation when people where talking reminded me of old Chinese martial arts movies, voice and mouth did not sync.

The game play was boring to watch, I cant comment on actually playing it I just watched.

Dem old school rain drops suck also

'X' better than the reviews suggest can be applied to pretty much any game ever. I think the only game that succeeds in dismantling this theory is The Fighter Within being the Kinect 2.0 garbage game that it is, only on Xbox One.

COD GHOSTS > BF4 KZ SF DESTINY TITANFALL

#23 Posted by GoldenElementXL (3692 posts) -

There are parts of that campaign that are very bad.

Not remotely true. There are a ton of games that, while good, were totally overhyped by the gaming press. Take Bioshock Infinite for example. Yeah, it was a decent game with an interesting narrative, but reviewers made it out to be the greatest game of the decade, and it certainly wasn't. It was a pretty generic shooting gallery style FPS with a nice story. It wasn't even the best FPS of the year--I would give that to either Shadow Warrior or Metro LL.

Oh, and back on topic: Sony fanboys really need to quit with this desperate attempt to make the Killzone series seem better than it is. You don't NEED to do this; just because a game is published by Sony doesn't mean you need to love it and constantly sing its praises.

#25 Posted by Zoso813 (310 posts) -

I gotta agree. While games like BF4 and CoD aren't really knocked for having a horrible campaign but good multiplayer, Killzone Shadowfall for some reason doesn't get reviewed the same way. The campaign is much better than Ghosts and BF4, and the multiplayer is great, if unpopulated.

Was the story dull as hell yes it was.The only issue I had with the reviews, was that not a single reviewer sounded like they touched MP. But it all comes to me liking the game in the end. Which I did actually end up liking.

#27 Posted by lundy86_4 (44013 posts) -

According to the TC... Cool.

I can't wait to play it, but it is what it is. If you enjoy that, then more power to ya.

#28 Edited by I_can_haz (6511 posts) -

The SP may be boring in some parts but I really enjoyed the slower pace as it got me to appreciate the Helghast and VSA worlds. Now the MP is the really spectacular side of KZSF to me. It destroys KZ3 and its even better than KZ2. I was so disappointed to find out that the reviewers were focusing on the campaign in their reviews and not mentioning anything about the stellar MP that is the meat and bones of KZ series. Yea the game is at least a 9 for me just based on the MP alone. Keep in mind I'm also enjoying BF4 I got for my PS4 and even KZSF manages to pull me away from the epicness that is BF4, it's just that good!

I love the weapons, so perfectly balanced and I love the fact we only get 3 classes this time so I don't have to worry about shitty saboteurs knifing my face. I mostly play as support, I deploy spawn points, revive noobs, and provide massive firepower from behind and with my awesome bots. It makes more sense to include all the team helping abilities in one class instead of splitting between the medic and tactician. Yea, KZSF was highly underrated. BF4's campaign is far worse and it didn't get a 7 here. :P Dat double standards because it's a PS exclusive still at work.

Killzone has always been a mediocre series.

#30 Edited by HalcyonScarlet (5032 posts) -

If only cows had the courage of their convictions. Your game is slightly above average, deal with it. And if you're going to defend it, stop talking about what low standards everyone else has.

When most people review a game in your favour, all is perfect in the world. When most don't, it was rushed, teh conspiracy, so on and so forth.

I thought you guys live by metacritic. But you don't afford non PS exclusive games the same leniency.

#31 Posted by Zidaneski (8482 posts) -

Halfway on my assault class and switched to support and Support class is amazing! Glad Turrets and air drones actually do something cause I remember in KZ2 that they were nearly useless. As far as SP goes it was great too gameplay wise, but that was because I played on Hard and had to use all the tools like the owl/tactical echo and adrenaline. Watched my friend play on Normal and then the game became a borefest. Seriously the enemies go down in like 3 shots so I can't see the campaign being any fun if you can just charge through everything without a scratch.

No, reviewers were far too kind on Killzone. I think it deserves a lot more hate then it currently has.

Campaign is awful by 2013 standards. Compare the campaign to other high profile shooters released in the past couple years, Killzone will look weak in comparison. Hell, Killzone 2 and 3 had far more enjoyable campaigns compared to Shadow Fall. Killzone: SF also has the worst ending to a game in 2013.

Multiplayer is the best part of the game, but it's really not worth the $60 alone. I'd rather play Ghosts and Battlefield then Shadow Fall's multiplayer.

The visuals are largely inconsistant. The game only looks beautiful when it feels like it. Some single player levels and multiplayer maps are pretty ugly.
