Killer Instinct or Mortal Kombat X - which is better?

Both have weird business models with the whole microtransactions/dlc thing, but let's ignore that. Which is the better fighting game? I'm not a fighting game guru,but I'm enjoying Mortal Kombat X more. I don't find myself particularly attached to the characters from Killer Instinct and I find MK X more accessible. Which one do you pick, SW?

Killer Instinct FTW. I'm totally rocking with Cinder and he's really fun to play. Also many gamers don't know it but Killer Instinct was the first genre to introduce the fast combos back during the arcade era. When the fast combos became a smashing hit, game developers took notice and now, performing fast combos is what made Killer Instinct it is today but KI is still an underrated series and I'm glad MS brought that series back to life. Now the only thing you can say about the reboot KI is that it's free-2-play and hey, it's free to download.

I remember the original on the arcade ages ago. I was kind of impressed.

MK X because it has a PC port.

@thereal25: you can get the ultra edition that comes with the original versions of KI one and KI:2 not sure if they hold up well didn't purchase, but I do have season one of KI spent like $20 on it. It's a decent game and they add a lot of stuff to it but I prefer MK, probably because I'm just better at MK and win way more online with MK lol

Want a game that teaches you the general rules and tactics of playing fighting games? Killer Instinct.

Want a fun fighting game? Mortal Kombat X.

Neither are top of the line fighters, but I'd rather play MKX any day.

I have both and I prefer Killer Insinct, however I have never been a big MK fan, just an average one and decided to get MKX after skippng MK last gen. The hit detection in MK still feels sluggish compared to other fighters like Killer Instinct. The online play in KI is also better than MK, the netcode, but I have not played since the last patch a few days ago which apparently improved some of the online for MKX, so will check that out later, maybe it's better now.

Overall they are very different fighters, with MK putting more emphasis on style(and that's cool, that is one of the reasons I got it) I just prefer the gameplay in KI it feels sharper and more responsive. The character roster is more impressive too, but that's just my opinion. There are other reasons too but overall I would say it is almost comparing apples and oranges, they are very different games and one of the reasons I got MKX is because of the Predator character, someone who is not even native to the series but I just couldn't pass it up so I'm having fun with the game, but if I had to only chose one I would say KI is my favorite so far. One thing MKX does better than KI is the single player mode, I would like to see KI incorporate something similar for season 3, a more in depth story mode for the characters.

While Killer Instinct was the reason I bought an Xbox One in the first place, I'm going to have to say that MKX is definitely a better fighting game.

Both are excellent titles and only Xbox One owners get to enjoy both.

Killer Instinct lacks the polish to truly make it past the standards. Don't get me wrong, I like the combo/combo breaker/energy conservation system and Ultras as well as finishers, but the roster is largely forgettable.

Mortal Kombat on the other hand doesn't do it much for me either, but it has style and an oomph factor. It's becoming more interactive etc.

I'd rather a SF, Samurai Showdown, KOF or something with more balance. But if I had to pick out of these two, it would be MKX.

The problem is it's an exclusive, so cow autopilot to the hate. And lems might autopilot to it.

Honestly though, you could say 'lol KI' if it was up against the true fighters in the genre it needs a bit of growth and evolution. But fighters from NetherRealm studios are and always will be the joke of the genre. The gameplay is just not good and it never has been. I've been playing MK games since the first and at no point has it ever come close to SF in anyway shape or form. I will still play the old SF2 games and I have zero interest in any MK games.

KI may be considered bottom of the pile in the pile of true fighters. But MK has never and will never even make it into that pile. It's fun for a while, but it has much less lasting appeal compared to other fighters imo.

MK is all flash and fatalities. I shelved MK9 after a few weeks, I'm still playing SF4. I would play KI, but I want a dedicated fight pad like the SF4 pad since it's all about control and combos.

Both are on the path that fighters need to go. Those being seasons/constant rebalancing patches. These shake up the genre in changing the meta over time, this is why games in other genres have been so successful like League of legends. This would teir list abusing with the ever evolving mechanics, and make the game feel more dynamic over time.

Anyone who can't execute combo's in Killer Instinct and gets destroyed any time they even attempt to play it will say Mortal Kombat X.

They are both good. I personally prefer Killer Instinct.

KI servers. MKX everything else.

Mortal Kombat is a better game though and I really like KI.
