Having previously established Zelda: Ocarina Of Time is significantly superior to Sony's most renowned title "Last Of Us", it appears we must once again raise the plateau.

In order to create a significant force, similar to a dying star collapsing into a black hole, we must invert Nintendo in on itself, this is currently the only known method of creating valid competition.

As an overall series, is Zelda better than Mario?

Mario has always been the stronger, more consistent series. It still commands its respective genre. The same cannot be said for Zelda.

I'll say that Legend of Zelda is a lot better then Mario in almost every way. Legend of Zelda series always continues to evolve even more adventures as new Nintendo consoles comes out for it, opens up more opportunity for Nintendo to explore, Mario is fun yes, but Zelda always tends to be bigger then any Mario games. Yes Legend of Zelda is a better series then Mario cause Zelda games tends to push Nintendo's hardware to the limits.

Mario more casual, zelda better for traditional gamers who want a long meaty game

@uninspiredcup: Okay? That does nothing for me, because I'm able to think for myself. Besides, kinda find it funny how that chart includes a number of remasters and re-releases.

As on overall series? Probably not, especially if you factor in the Mario Kart franchise.

But A Link to the Past is better than any Mario game ever made.

No, Mario has been far more consistent and is, by light years, the best in its genre.

The same can't be said for Zelda.

But it has the highest critical acclaim of it's genre with the most consistent score.

I guess it's cool now to hate Zelda. SMH.

As an answer to the thread, both have incredible games, but I've it to Mario because of sheer volume of incredible games.

Zelda gets my respect. Mario on the other hand no longer has relevance as far as I'm concerned. It has a very basic and simplistic set of mechanics that can't (shouldn't) be improved upon. Zelda is like the quintessential dungeon, open world style game. The inspiration for so many other games, western and Japanese. It can still be improved a lot.

It's too difficult to compare the two, as they are so different. If we go by what the market wants, Mario has quite clearly made much, much more money than Zelda. If we go by storytelling, Zelda is clearly better. One thing is obvious, for Nintendo, Mario is much better than Zelda.

Not even close. Mario is masterclass, Zelda is just good. Super Mario Galaxy 2 is better than any Zelda game could ever hope to be. As is Super Mario World, Super Mario Bros 3, and hell, even Super Mario 64. It's not even fair comparing the two. Mario is in a league of his own.

Mario is just an icon used in pretty much everything. He's burnt out. I'm surprised they didn't reskin splatoon and set it in the mushroom kingdom. Some of his platformers have been inspired, but look at the flip side, he's been in some pretty average shite.

Zelda has mostly stayed true to the series (notwithstanding the awful Dynasty Wars spin off). Judge a series purely by it's high notes? Mario. Judge a series by it's purity? closer.

Yes, and so are Metroid and F-Zero. I'd put pokemon over it too, but those games never change significantly.

Gen 3: Mario
Gen 4: Zelda
Gen 5: Zelda
Gen 6: Zelda
Gen 7: Mario
Gen 8: Mario

Mario has been a lot more innovative than Zelda though. So in the end mario wins.

Nah.

In terms of excellence.

Zelda has Link to the Past. Then a bunch of other games that range from meh to good.

Mario has SMB3, SMW, SMW2, SMG and SMG2. Then a bunch of other games that range from meh to good. And more of them.

Of course I'm not counting all the Mario whoring out (good or bad), just the platformers.

Im not sure i can even answer this, this is one though question. I feel it can swing either way, i would try to swing it to Mario for the great coop it added and i got to enjoy, but then i also experienced great coop with Zelda. Mario i feel wins on the coop side. Zelda has great single player experience, but so does Mario...forget it, i give up, my brain is about to explode.

Im more of a Mario kinda guy, but i feel its not fair cause ive only played probably half of the Zelda games, but yet ive played just about all the big Mario games.

It seems like an orange or apple question as we are comparing an adventure franchise versus a plaformer franchise.

I could not answer this question.

If I had to chose one over the other it would be a Mario game. The creativity they put into the level with those games just blow me away. And that's not me even considering the Mario Kart Series.

Can't really decide. The latest Mario games have been playing it safe and have been getting too easy. The last recent zelda game on console was just awful to me.

I guess I'll just go with Mario.

Different genres and they are good at different things.

Mario is the king of platformers while Zelda is the king of casual adventure games.
