Not really a System Wars topic but it kinda is, and I wanted to get an opinion specifically from System Wars denizens.

Does your favorite platform have enough?

Can you use only that platform and be satisfied?

I see people with 3 consoles, 2 PC's, 2 handhelds, and I wonder "When does this person find time to finish games?"

For those people with alot of systems, do you have a big backlog?

Right now I am focused on PC gaming and struggling to "complete" games, games like Civilization make it hard to feel like you "finished" it, so here I sit with a bunch of open-ended games that don't really have an ending, and I keep finding games here and there on sale, and my backlog is just getting bigger and bigger.

At this rate I have no idea when I'll get a next gen console or when I'll even want to.

I used to want to play GTA V, but now I'm not sure if I have time for it.

I have a gaming addiction, so I end up with all consoles. I have a backlog on everything and yet I continue to buy games. These days most games I buy are reduced in price a advantage of having a backlog.

Is that a gaming addiction or a shopping addiction?

I have way too many games and way too many systems. I probably haven't even played half the games I own from last gen.

Gaming for sure, it just happens to be a somewhat expensive hobby.

I do have a backlog, but I only buy games that I want to play, so it keeps the list manageable. I only game maybe once every few weeks too.

For now, Wii U, 3DS, and PS3 is overwhelmingly enough. PS3 still has a few good games left in it (Ultra Street Fighter IV and Dark Souls 2) and the other two systems have a steady supply of quality titles. Having said that, I will probably need to pick up a PS4 for the third party games I won't be able to play on any of those systems.

I can afford them all but can only play 1 (PS3)

I can only play 3-5 games a year because i simply don't find the time to play.

GTA V is my big purchase that will keep me going until 2014 and the multiplayer will extend that.

I don't know how people can have all 3 consoles, 30+ games a year, a job/School/University, social life and some free time.

I wont be getting them all this gen. Wii U, PS4, 3DS and Vita and casual laptop PC games for me. Last generation I skipped out on PC gaming and PSP. This time I'll be skipping out on Xbox One.

I don't buy that many games, so no.

For last gen I had a PC, PS3 and Xbox 360 - for next gen I have a PC, soon to have a Xbox One and will have a PS4 in February.

___

I buy games, finish the game I bought then go buy another if there is one available I'm interested in.

I play on PC, so yes. The system gets new games every single day. There are no droughts like the various consoles get.

I'm looking into getting a handheld of some sort though. Just for times I'm not at my PC.

No, I would not be satisfied with just a Xbox. I still need the Wii U for Nintendo games and PlayStation for Naughty Dog games.

I don't really play too many games; I really only buy about 4 or 5 games a year, but I like to be able to choose from the very best that each console offers and not have to be limited to only choosing from the library of just one console.

I Quit multi-console owning after Gen 6. I realize owning more than 1 console is a waste of money and too much of a burden to me just to simply buy games on multiple consoles and then lose interest in that game, leaving the other consoles to collect dust. I personally like getting the most value for my buck in one console. Beginning with Gen 7, I realize from a practical sense, that just owning 1 console makes perfect sense because I can fully utilize that console to its fullest.

With just the PS3 (and future PS4), I get to:

  • Play video games
  • Watch BR movies
  • Watch Netflix/Hulu
  • Listen to music, etc.

Now, I'm not trying to convince anyone to quit buying other platforms. Kudos to you if it works well. All I'm saying it doesn't work well for me, from a practical pov. I buy 4-6 games per year, and put in at least 6-7 hours maybe less per week in gaming. So there's just not enough time for me to dedicate myself on multiple platforms.

And yes I do have a backlog. Part of the reason why I haven't pre-ordered a PS4 back in September. I'm in no rush to jump on Gen 8 just yet.

One console for the next 8 years isn't enough. One console and PC is above enough.

I only own a gaming PC at the moment, and for the time being I'm sticking with it. Maybe in a year a console will be worth getting once they have a good bunch of exclusives available, but right now buying a "next gen" console would be madness in my opinion.
