is this desperation for sony?

If the rumors are true... 299 PS3 will own in sales... but i cant help wondering how much money sony will lose... if at first they said they were already LOSING money by setting the price at 600 ... price drop after price drop...

This seems like a last stand for me.. i doubt it would get any lower if the rumor is true... And i WILL be picking one up if it is.

arguably, ninendo created their best games when they were in desperation mode. When they made all those n64 hits, they were fighting for their careers, for the company.

Although its good for consumers, yes its desperation from Sony. The really want make an impact with the video gaming side and not just the movie side of their system. They still need that big bang to lure in potential owners but unfortunately they attracted movie enthusiast more than gamers.

I think Sony Playstation 3 will have the strongest year of all 3 consoles. This year Sony has big title games in every genre.

Fighting= Tekken 6/Soul Calibur 4

Freeroam= GTA 4/Infamous/Yokuza 3

RPG= White Knight Story/FFXIII/ FFXIII Versus/ FFXIII AGITO

Shooter= Killzone 2, Resistence 2, Slocom Confertation, Haze

Racing= Gran Tourismo Prolouge

Sony really has an ACE 2008 I think this year everyone should have a PS3

that artical is screwed up. it says that it will be the same price as the current 40gb (they say it is selling for 300) is sellling for 400 which would mean that it would still sell for 400. But Sony does have there production costs down so they still could make money on the 80gb at $450

that sounds too good to be true. id have to pick it up if it were just 300. but i couldnt do it without first feeling sorry for the people who got the system at launch. paying (in some cases) double that price.:?

The white ceramic PS3 is true but the $299 PS3 is false but if it was true I don't think its desperation more like Sony feels like they're comfortable enough and stable enough to sell these things at that price.

They would only be losing $100 if they made the 40 GB $300, but whatever will give them a super boost in sales without sacrificing too much would be good.

If Nintendo's games fail then Nintendo is done. I don't understand how a company that's in all sorts of electronics would be done for if it's gaming department goes in the red (unless of course Sony is doing bad in other places too).

The core is garbage. The PS3 isn't even at $300 yet. If you're going to talk hypotheticals, it's the same as saying "How can anyone pay $1000000 for a PS3 and $1000000 for a 360 when the Wii only costs $1?"

do you even live in this world?? the PS3 is outselling the 360 in worldwide sales and that's before MGS4 or GT5 or FF13 are even out. It will continue to do so I believe.

That is not a desperation move anyway, it's called Competition. they want to offer it at a lower price so they can gain more market share, plus the Sony is breaking even on the 40Gb PS3 right now and is making 100 dollars on the 80Gb model so they are not loosing any money.

This is probably one of the most logical reasons for the drop in price.

If only they didnt get delayed all the time...

With the decline in production costs, the near win of Blu Ray and the continued success of the PS2 (people forget that this thing still sells a butt load), a price drop isn't unbelievable.

I'm nearly sure that Sony has patents on Blu Ray. Thus, they make money every time a Blu Ray disc is sold. Securing the success of Blu Ray is what they are after as of now. Their gaming division will pick up the pace in the coming years.

I've heard that the production cost of the PS3 has been cut in half, so instead of it costing $800 to make, it is now $400Revolver_Ocelot

Well since the SKU's are cheaper to make now, they won't loose any money and can afford a price drop.
