I seriously think that this may be the truth. Between the 3DS and the PS4, any gamer is covered for pretty much all of their gaming needs, straight up. Both are the highest selling systems of their generation, both have decimated their respective competition, both have amassed a huge amount of third party games, both have a great library of digital titles, both have great first party support (far better than Wii U and PS Vita respectively), both have a massive amount of exclusive titles, and collectively, both cover just about every major kind of game- indie, mid tier, AAA, retail, digital, Japanese, western, Nintendo's first party, Sony's first party, you name it.

Both are great at what they do, providing a focused gaming experience, and both are just simply put the best in their respective class.

Is the PS4/3DS combo the way to go this generation, System Wars?

PS4 and 3DS have two different markets. Also, the 3DS has had an abysmal showing this year. At least with Vita you get cross buy and remote play. If anything, PS4 and Wii U are best combo.

Sure, for the DS library. The 3DS is woefully behind in many genres.

Yes, that's what makes them the perfect combo, one handheld, one console. No, it wasn't abysmal, it wasn't even close to abysmal, it was just a step down from the amazingness of the last two years- it still got Devil Survivor 2 Break Record, Etrian Odyssey Untold 2: The Fafnir Knight, The Legend of Legacy, Triforce Heroes, Majora's Mask 3D, Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate, and Xenoblade Chronicles 3D. With Vita, you get the exact same games, twice. Redundancy, it's why it's not the best combo, same as why PS4/XB1 is not the best combo.

Nope, the best is to have them all and change the 3DS for the N3DSXL.

If I could only have 1 console and 1 handheld this might be how I do it. Giving up the Wii U is tough though. Splatoon and Mario Maker are very good games. And Mario Kart 8 is much better than 7......... Either way this would be a tough choice from the Nintendo side. The PS4 choice is pretty easy. I do like the XB1 controller alot though......

Edit: Wait, can I still have a PC?

It's assumed you'd have the N3DS, but I mean, it literally changes nothing outside of a grand total of one game.

Agree 100%

If you have a PS4 you won't need a PC. (and hell everyone has a PC by default that could handle most of PC's (indie) exclusive trash anyway)

And 3DS gets the best ninty support + thirdparty support unlike WiiU

Well that's where it comes down to taste. You listed these games here as being quality 3DS titles,

"Devil Survivor 2 Break Record, Etrian Odyssey Untold 2: The Fafnir Knight, The Legend of Legacy, Triforce Heroes, Majora's Mask 3D, Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate, and Xenoblade Chronicles 3D."

I own MH4 and Xenoblade Chronicles 3D and am only interested in 1 other game in that list. I could play a better version of Xenoblade on a Wii U and losing Monster Hunter isn't a big deal to me. (And I own the MH4 n3ds) So for me the debate between the Wii U and 3DS is much more competitive than it is for you. And that's fine. I'm not a big jrpg guy.

PS4/3DS or PC/3DS would be my recommendations.

Wii U + 3DS is kinda redundant unless you really need to play Mario Maker and Splatoon.

I just listed them as being notable games this year lol. My own preference extends to Majora, Monster Hunter, Etrian Odyssey, and maybe Xenoblade, but I am not sold on that one yet.

The thing with the 3DS is, consider its lineup since launch through to now- would you seriously want to not have Fire Emblem Awakening? Kid Icarus Uprising? A Link Between Worlds? Pokemon Omega/Alpha?

To be honest, I'm not really impress with my Wii U then I am for my new 3DS XL. I expected so much more from my Wii U. Don't get me wrong, games like Splatoon, Wind Waker, Pikmin 3 and the rest of exclusive games just doesn't offer more then what I hope for due to lack of 3rd party games. My 3DS has over 14 games digital as of now that get's way more gaming time and it's everything I could have ask for coming from a Nintendo product. Which is why I said, PC/3DS but PS4/3DS/PC is also a good combo to have in my opinion.

The best combo is to own all of the systems; that's the only way you won't miss out on anything.

As far as best two systems only combos, there is no right answer to that; it's a matter of taste. PS4/3DS may be the best two systems only combo for someone that loves JRPGs, but it is definitely not the two systems only combo that I would pick if I was forced to choose.

I would pick Xbox One and Wii U as my two systems only combo if I was forced to choose. The Xbox One would give me almost all of the great third party games (I would prefer getting these games on Xbox One over PS4 due to the better controller and online service; plus my friends are on Xbox Live) and the Wii U would give me what I feel is the best exclusive library plus the only system where local multiplayer is still alive and well.

That's what makes it difficult for me. Giving up Fire Emblem and ALBW would be tough. Kid Icarus and Pokemon were good but I could probably let those go if I had to. On the Wii U side, Pikmin 3, Super Mario World, Mario Kart 8, Wonderful 101, Splatoon and Mario Maker would be tough to give up. Smash for 3DS and Mario Kart 7 offer a good compromise for Mario Kart 8 and Smash for Wii U, but it would be tough to let the console versions go.

Pokemon Omega Ruby was the game that made me realize I am finally burned out on Pokemon. The game almost feels like a waste of time now. I would rather spend my time gaining skill in a game like Splatoon or Rocket League than navigate menus and pressing "A" a bunch.

I can understand burning out on Pokemon (though ORAS actually revitalized my interest in the series after the double whammy of B2/W2 and X/Y, personally), so I can see them not being much of an allure.

But yes, personally I find myself in the place where it is easy for me to pick the 3DS over every other system this generation except for PS4. it has a great built in library already, and it is getting some amazing games next year too.

I don't have to deal with anything, since I'm pretty much at peace here. Sounds like you're the one having issues with reconciling yourself to the existence of an entire genres of video games.

I don't make my choices based on which platforms sells more, so this combo is not for me because I cannot play games like Forza, Halo, Quantum Break, etc on PS4. It depends on your taste really, if you don't care about Xbox franchises then sure perhaps the PS4 is best for you, but it depends on your taste...for instance I don't really care about JRPGs but for someone who does then that person should go with PS4, etc.

As for the DS, I have zero interest in handheld platforms. The only 2nd platform I am considering is either PS4(mostly because of SF5) or PC(because my current PC barely works and I need a new one soon anyways, so might as well get one that plays games on recommended settings at least).

Yeah, there are also hentai games, doesn't mean it's a quality genre. Ah well, point is JRPGs are trash and only for weaboos with cheap and weird taste.

PS4/Vita and a future WiiU will sort me out for a long while. Not paying more than £99 for a WiiU though.

Yeah, there are also hentai games, doesn't mean it's a quality genre. Ah well, point is JRPGs are trash and only for weaboos with cheap and weird taste.

You know, you sound a lot like a closet weeaboo...

Only if you like non game JRPGs.

You've already betrayed your ignorance on this topic once before, why keep persisting?

JRPGs are trash. What they have could not be classified as gameplay. And I haven't even begin on the pathetic characterization and PS1 graphics most of them had. JRPGs sucks, deal with it.

I don't have to deal with anything, since I'm pretty much at peace here. Sounds like you're the one having issues with reconciling yourself to the existence of an entire genres of video games.

I implore you, stop talking.

Vita and the Wii U is the best combination imo.

Yup, no doubt. PS4 gets mostly everything except for Nintendo games which is why you would need the 3DS.

@zeeshanhaider: Fail.

Yeah, I said the same thing when I booted my first JRPG and when introduced with the battle system couldn't believe that's the gameplay from a game in 2014. I thought it must be a troll like Kojima do with his games and then I google ATB, turns out that's how JRPGs, work. Yup, epic fail, I said.

Now, that I think hentai and JRPGs aren't that different. I mean that's why most JRPGs characterization include girly males or manly girls?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?! O_o And seeing your avatar no wonder you weeaboos like JRPGs even when it doesn't have any gameplay.
