Is the PS3 comeback to beat the 360 in sales the greatest in gaming history?

This puts Sony at the top with one of the greatest sales achievements in gaming history, has there been anything greater than this feat in terms of sales? Sure some will argue the PS2, but this could be a right up there with PS2 sales, if not better.

It's a great comeback, but I think the greatest accomplishment in gaming history is how horrible the PS3 did compared to the PS2.

From $600 to 70 million consoles sold. If only they could achieve something similar with the Vita since the device itself is a pretty amazing piece of equipment and it has the potential for more amazing games that the 3DS could only dream about.

It's not lying about numbers. Falsifying quarterly reports is illegal. They simply combined them, plus PSP/Vita AFAIK. The PS3/PSP/PS2 were reported seperately from 2006-2011.

Here's their report page for shipping numbers.GAF have also taken to noting they are PS2/PS3 and PSP/Vita shipments when reporting.

The idiot who did the orginal posting that set all this off in the other thread made a mistake.

The 70.2 million that he took from the SCEI site was combination of two numbers. The second number was combined PS2 + PS3 numbers for this FY. It is actually purely coincidental that those numbers totalled 70.2 million, which is so close to the 70 million PS3s that Sony says they shipped as of Nov 4th.

There are two different things being discussed and the 70.2 million is actually completely irrelevant and is not a number Sony released.

It came a year later, was high priced, had media bashing it left and right, was hard to develop for, and had 2 alternatives that were way cheaper. All of these disadvantages are something PS1 and 2 didnt deal with. Yes, it has the Playstation name but all generations are different.Lems can stop playing that tired card now because its invalid.
