Is Super Mario Galaxy the greatest game of this generation?

I think it is well worthy of the title by the media obviously gamers will say differently like Mass Effect 2,TLOU,Uncharted 2 and obviously Mario Galaxy will be in many peoples top 10 but maybe not first.

I wouldn't argue with anyone who says 2 in particular (and to some, very small extents, 1) was their GOTG or GOAT.

I still say Bioshock 1.

The second game is superior. That game is among the best of the best, from this gen and all time.

No, i'm very confident if Mario Galaxy were a new IP made by a company other than Nintendo it would have been a niche Wii game that the media would have overlooked, and the metacritic score would have been about 10 points lower.

I understand why they voted it so high, 3D platformers were pretty rare this gen all the publishers were chasing the CoD crowd, lots of generic bro shooter type games so a game like SMG was really refreshing, combine that with the memories the reviewers had of playing Nintendo games growing up led to the metacritic score that it had.

Excellent game, but lets not pretend like there werent better games out there that were more deserving, and that includes Wii games. (Xenoblade is the best game on that system)

If it was the sequel then, yeah, definitely.

I'd say SMG2 is.
