Hell no, it wasn't even the best game last year.....Gears, R6V, are all better then it....and Okami just craps all over it (even through i just played the first 2hrs of the game)...Meh, then again from what i've played of Okami, it should of get GOTY instead of Gears...its just awsome...
My personal fav's list would not include oblivion up to at least 100 games.
As for what games i feel are "the best" I'd say it is not in my top 50(though i have never sat down and compiled a list). It's a good game, but a very overated game.
Okami also seems to be a little over rated among fans. It's a good game, and artisticaly it is fantastic.. but art alone is not good enough for a game to deserve game of the year. If gears of war doesn't deserve GOTY Zelda does(which as far as i'm concerned it does).
I think so, and I've played thousands. I'm not ususally an RPG'er either... but no other game lets me be exactly who I want to be and do exactly what I want to do with such depth. It's outstanding... a marvel of human achievemnent.
i didnt even like it... -horrible attack system...all you did was push the trigger over and over again, and it would do the same exact thing for every single weapon... -That level scaling sucked....completly took away all the fun of trying to beat somebody thats hard...like in the arena it was all the same...plus i liked running around looking for rare items...if they just arent there because im not above a level 10...and once i reach a level 10 there all over the place...thats no fun..i liked looking for things.... -The draw distance was horrible...everything in the distance was all mushed and awful looking....mountains looked like giant green mounds...and unless you were standing like 10 feet away or closer from whatever you were trying to look at..it looked bad... -The quests were all the same..."go here fight random creatures, get this, fight random creatures, go back, hand item back to quest giver..." they were all some variation of that... I hated the game...it was fun for like a week...then it felt like i was doing the same thng over and over and over again...

Exactly. don't forget the repetitive dungeons and the unbalanced character creation. pick acrobatics, athletics, alchemy, or mysticism and you're screwed.
It is very high on my favorite games list, yes, but obviously I haven't played every game, especially old ones. There is just so much to do in Oblivion and so many ways to do it that it's just insane. Bored of doing the main quest? Try out the Dark Brotherhood. Bored of killing people? Join the Thieves Guild. I'll admit that I actually just beat the main quest this weekend (the last sequence was awesome) but I still have a ton of stuff to do in the game like finish the DB and Mages guilds storylines, and I have to start the Fighters Guild. Then there are all the sidequests (anyone who hasn't done the sidequest "Through a Nightmare, Darkly" needs to go find it now). I just love it.Â
Admittedly I haven't played Morrowind...it is only like 5 bucks now though so maybe I'll pick it up. Overall though Oblivion is one of my favorites right next to Shadow of the Colossus, Gears of War, Half-Life 2, and Super Mario 64. Â
