For example, I cannot, for love or money, remember what happened towards the end of Half-Life 2??? I just have some random disjointed recollections from various levels and that's that, some things I remember very sharply, and some not at all...Do you think this happens over time regardless of the game's quality? Just like the memories of games' plots tend to get blurry / fuzzy in my head after some considerable time and I wouldn't be able to recap properly or tell anyone else what precisely happened without glancing at some wikipedia entry or review.

Its normal and good for us!!! It makes replaying games more fun. I love playing old games I haven't played in a long time but loved back in the day.

I forget most of it pretty fast once i stop playing a game, same thing with movies. After a while id be unable to tell how the story goes or anything at all, then when i play / watch them again, i'm like "Oh yeah i remember that part", just before it happens or while it's happening. it's like it's still there in my memory but i can't access the information, and once i play the game / watch the movie again it unlock that part of my memory.

Forgetting the game is best. Now you can replay it without getting bored.

pretty much everybody memories gets pushed farther to the back. Harder to bring them back with out a trigger. That trigger could be watching video of something important in game or replaying part of the it. to me thats normal

Played RAGE (PS3) for 3 weeks and only got 6-7 hours clocked into it. Never bothered finishing it. And now, I have absolutely no clue of how to play it or if there was any story in it :(

Same with Fallout 3 (360), I only got outside of that underground base, and just got bored. A few days later I picked up the game and completely forgot the controls and the story.

So yeah, its pretty normal.

It's normal to fail to remember forgettable experiences.  It's normal for games to be forgettable.

If I wouldn't rate them at least 8.5, I probably forgot a lot of the minor story details. If I give a game a really high score, I usually can remember a lot about the story.

Of course, especially when you play story driven games mainly. I couldn't tell you a lot of the minor details in a plot line because I play RPGs as my main genre, I read at least one book a week (thank god for that kindle I bought last year!), and I do the occasional story driven anime binge (I love something like Code Geass, but can't stand action oriented ones like Bleach), but I could give you a basic overview of the plotline.

I think it just happens over time, FFX is one of my favourite games yet I've pretty much forgotten like 40% of it.
Come on Square, FFX HD do it.
Just playing songs from that game will remind you of the levels. I love that game :D
