Its like, people don't seem to care about Halo so much anymore. Is it still relevant?
#2 Posted by Slashkice (13018 posts) -

It's still relevant, it's just been overtaken by Call of Duty as the mainstream "it" game. That, and franchise fatigue.

#3 Posted by LustForSoul (5840 posts) -
It's not as much fun today. I think Halo 3 was just fresh with its graphics and everything. It's still a great game for what it is but it has to compete with other games with the same kind of theme these days. It's like Doom, not as relevant anymore but still recognized.

Not since halo 3.

Halo 4 sold faster and more than all Halos in the same time frame meaning that 4 somehow got people who have not played Halo since 3 to somehow by Xboxes for Halo 4.

Since Halo 4 is trash, and 343 is a sorry imitation, no.

#7 Posted by FireSpirit117 (1981 posts) -
It's taken a backseat to COD (much like everything else), but it's still relevant.

Basically what I came in here to say.

Irrelevant games don't make $220M day one and $300M in the first week.

The only thing that has become irrelevant is the MM, it's so boring.

#10 Posted by StrongDeadlift (5141 posts) -

4 was the fastest selling game in the franchise, so no.

#11 Posted by EPaul (9906 posts) -

It's still the Microsoft biggest exclusive ip so yea it's relevant they need to take a break though (franchise fatigue)

Plenty relevant, just that CoD has become the #1 seller now.

Upwards of 4 million. Nothing for certain beyond that.
#17 Posted by CRUSHER88 (1150 posts) -
Sure is. Still one of the best selling franchises on consoles.

The last Halo game That got me hooked to online was Halo 3. Other than the campaigns, I lost interest in the multiplayer.

It's the best selling game in the franchise according to Microsoft. It's unknown if they mean for a quarter or LTD. If LTD it's past 11M. If it's for a quarter, then it's past 8.6M.

11 million in 3 months is insane and I will bet money that didn't happen. I'll also bet 8.6 million in three months didn't happen, either. I think they meant "fastest-selling."

Considering the amount of revenue they generated from Halo 4, both directly through game and DLC sales and indirectly through brand advertising... I'd say it's still incredibly relevant.

I find the 11M hard to believe as well. The 8.6M isn't that far fetched though. Assuming they game did as well in December(5 weeks) as it did in November(3 weeks) in NPD, then it isn't that hard to believe the rest of the world made up the last 2M. Games with a #, plus the main character usually sell better then spin offs, prequels also.

#23 Posted by cloudff7tm (3975 posts) -

Yes, but it's not as big it seems as it was back in the days of Halo 2 and 3.

#24 Posted by Heil68 (43273 posts) -
Nope, it left with Bungie.

8.6 is pretty farfetched. That's almost Reach's lifetime sales and close to Halo 3's. It would have topped the NPD every month since release and I don't think that happened.

Halo 3 was hugely relevant. Halo 4 still packed a punch but it didn't have that hype behind it like the others. Looking foward to Bungie's next franchise more

Halo is still fun as hell. I actually think 343i did a great job with Halo 4. It's not perfect, but pretty impressive for a dev's first work!

Yeah. The campaign was at least pretty damn good

With the exception of Halo CE and Halo 3, Halo 4 had my favourite Halo campaign. Take off those annoying QTEs and add some scarab battles, and it will be amazing. I also found the mp to be surprisingly addicting.

The problem was it's going up against CoD, and Just Dance. Just Dance came in second for Decmber with 5 million, so it isn't crazy that the third place game did around 3M+, especially with 2 more weeks to sell and on a 33% discount on Amazon.

Yeah but that would've been listed on the NPD. So... I'm skeptical.

I really hope it didn't sell all that well, tbh. It's pretty bad.

Alot more than it should have due to easuky scratchable DVD discs. These are not Blu-Ray Sales we are talking about here after all.
#33 Posted by CanYouDiglt (7298 posts) -
Fastest selling one was Halo 4 so ya I would say very relevant.
#34 Posted by Goyoshi12 (9687 posts) -

I'd say not really but, who cares? It's still making millions and still has a huge @$$ community and fans.

The second half of what you said contradicts the first half. You say not really relevant but yet makes millions and has a huge @ss community and fans.

And PS3 is the 'fastest selling' system, whats your point? This only matters with Halo oh ok.

Ok when Halo 4 has been going on its 7th year and still the least selling Halo like how the PS3 is the least selling system then I will agree Halo is not relevant.
#38 Posted by Desmonic (13180 posts) -
Hmmm....yeah... Why wouldn't it be? Just because you didn't enjoy the last game doesn't mean the series has become irrelevant..

I figured relevant in terms of it's history and place in it as well as meaning and palce in the industry. Kind of like how Doom and Quake were relevant to the FPS genre and how relevant Quake and Unreal both were for multiplayer gaming in general.

As of now the standings are PS3 1st, WiiU second, and 360 standing as a dead console atm.

I think so, the only one I didn't enjoy was ODST. Loved Halo 3.

I'm surprised at how well CoD performs. Surely by now they're just re-releasing the same bloody game all over again and again and again.

People like that same game over again and again and again.

EDIT: Oh, and MW =/= Black Ops.

Honestly, I think it did. Which is why I don't have any hope for this franchise, since 343 will continue down the CoD bandwagon.

Oh well. I guess I just won't buy any more Halo games then. Problem solved.

Nah. Not with better shooters like Killzone & Resistance out there.
