If two botched releases in a row didn't do it, I doubt a cop spin off will. Particularly since it doesn't look like they invested much in it.
series has become annual like COD and assassins creed
Not it hasn't. Prior to BF 4 we hadn't had a battlefield game for 2 years... And hardline isn't made by dice nor is a main franchise title.
No, people will by Hardline in the millions.
No they won't because it's a freaking add on expanded into a whole game.
I think Hardline will prove this series is almost finished. There will probably be one or two more Battlefield games after, then the series will go the way of Tony Hawk and Guitar Hero.
hopefully the main series gets thrown into the garbage bin and ea realises how great bad company is and decides to make a sequel to that
Only system warriors would believe a series who just had an installment that was the best selling of the series would believe the series was dying. The lack of basic observation skills and logic here is just sad.
Just because you and parts of the internet believe that Hardline is some $60 DLC doesn't mean it won't be successful in its own way (success doesn't mean outselling its predecessor) and it also doesn't mean the death of a decade old franchise who has seen increasing commercial success since 2005 despite annual releases of games or DLC.
Hopefully, then Call of Duty can die off as well.
Call of Duty will outlast Battlefield. Really, for all the hate it gets, the COD series consistently gives its fans what they want with a solid online experience. I don't particularly like the series, but I am done hating on it. Activision has handled that franchise very well.
@Wasdie: I thought BF4 sold less than BF3.
I really hope the next game is 2143!
It may have. The amount of people playing online was always higher than BF3 though despite all of the issues. I just assumed it sold more over its life than BF3 because I consistently saw more active BF4 servers on all platforms including two new platforms. I don't think it sold as well as BF3 right away but it sold on more systems for longer so sales are probably higher by now.
Despite that it still sold tens of millions across all platforms. The series isn't dying at all. Hardline won't sell as well but people aren't going to write off the entire series just because of Hardline.

It will probably still sell millions, due to marketing spend.
That doesn't mean it will be a "success". Selling milions could still portend failure. We'll see when this game comes out, and then see how long the "community" lasts. If the community dies out fast (i.e. more like Medal of Honor, than Battlefield) - then it's possible EA will have tainted the Battlefield name permanently.

I don't think it's just hardline.
I think the problem is that people payed 110+ dollars and didn't even get a working product at first. Lots of people haven gotten burnt even if they have a working product now, they'll shy away from a new release.
Look at the damage Aliens: CM has done to the hype around Alien: Isolation... totally different dev & game but people are still wary about that series...
Asking if BF is going to die.... sigh... really? lol.... damn.. right when you think things can't get anymore illogical in here.
I think the final entry in the series will be F2P. The new Unreal Tournament will be huge and EA will want to try to squeeze the last few microtransactions out of their battlefield lemon.

BF4 and BF3 feel so much like F2P games sometimes, there is just so much to unlock and you can even buy shortcuts XD
But you are forgetting that there were already 2 F2P games for BF: BF Pay for free or something and BF Heroes.
EA acquired DICE in 2006 i guess after Battlefield 2. All the entries since them have been on the scale from mediocre COD clones to crap. Bad Company 2 was alright. Nothing can touch the ultimate fun that was BF1942. RIP DICE..... I'll always remember playing Desert Combat mod!

Unfortunately I have to agree with Heil68. Hardcore gamers are idiots that pay full retail game price for DLC.

DAMN IDIOTS

Dice originally bought the mod team behind "Desert Combat" and later disbanded them with various developers being spread across companies. In this day and age, long after Battlefield 2, they probably could fairly easily get a kickstarter.
i dunno bout that graveyard of yours....bioware is still alive and kicking. miss westwood studios though
If people were smart, they would realize that Bioware has expanded under EA, and now capable of multiple projects at a time, not just one.
Origin, Mythic, and Pandemic failed because they started releasing sucky game after sucky game, and I really cannot blame EA for Ultima IX, I blame Richard Garriot. EA just got tired of him dragging his feet.
I imagine Star Wars Battlefront will replace it.
Which is sad... because BF was 10x better than CoD ever was.
Nope, perhaps this spin off game series will be put to rest. Because i don't think a lot of people will buy this game coming this fall. The Battlefield series as a whole is doing alright

Bad comparison. Skateboarding and music games were a fad. Notice how both genres are dead while fps are still going strong. BF offers an experience no other game does, it's going nowhere.
Not in the immediate future, though in the philosophical sense that nothing lasts forever and everything dies, sure.
If EA puts Battlefield on the back burner I'd imagine that's because EA will be promoting the next Battlefronts game, after all DICE will be busy with it, they'll be busy with Mirror's Edge, if EA doesn't think studios like Visceral or other third parties should work on it or its not worth their time then maybe EA will hold off on the series for a while.
Yes but they can right the ship.
1. Battlefield PC Exclusive. Time constraints loosened up and not rushed to meet console schedule. Plus PS4 and Xbox one struggle with the larger games like conquest.
2. Battlefield Bad Company can be the console game. This series always did good with player count and map size. Ps4 and xbox one can do with a lower player count (48) max.
Westwood and Maxis *sigh* FU EA, command & conquer was a fantastic franchise and u done fked it up. Don't even mention the Sim City travesty.
It won't die. DICE may but Battlefield won't. They will use the Star Wars franchise next and we all know it will be a Battlefield game with lasers (which sounds awesome), and after that they will likely make a Battlefield Bad Company 3.
I think Battlefield won't die because they have such strong iterations ahead, and because there will always be a spot for this type of game and who else would make such a game? The only other IP that I know of that comes close is Planetside.
Also it looks like they finally got their netcode right, and BF4 seems to work flawlessly now for the vast majority of people. Which is like 1 year too late, but I also like to think that they will not F up that badly again now that they got stuff that works as well as it does... (Or did I say this last time too...)
They will try their hardest to kill it with microtransactions (and oh man... lubricate your hole because EA + Star Wars Battlefield sounds like it may be the worst offender we have ever seen outside mobile) but it will be too strong to kill.
Battlefield is in the same position as COD except a good COD multiplayer is easy to replicate so Activision may have to be careful with competition.
