Yes, actually, given that the Bone has more worthwhile games on it currently than the PS4.

That $400 price tag, and all that "just wait" hype is sure doing wonders for it though.

I always love this argument....as though it isn't about subjective opinion. LOL.

In the fifth generation, the PS1 dominated the N64 and the Saturn with 104 million sales. The N64 had 33 million and the Saturn had 9.

In the sixth generation, the PS2 dominated the GameCube and Xbox with 158 million sales. The GameCube had 22 million and the Xbox had 25 million.

In the seventh generation, the Wii dominated the Playstation 3 and the Xbox 360 with 101 million sales. The Xbox 360 had 81 million sales and the PS3 had 83 million sales, beating out the 360 despite the 360 launching 1 full year earlier.

In the current generation, The PS4 has already passed the Wii U after only being on the market for 4 months. The Wii U had a full year on the market, being available for 1 year and 4 months to date. The Xbox One is currently in third place.

If you just look at the history, PS3 was Sony's only blemish, their only disappointment. A Sony disappointment is considered a great success for the Xbox. Xbox simply has lower standards, they're happy with last place and consider it a "gain of marketshare", lol. Sony on the other hand is used to being number 1, 2nd place is considered a disaster and a disappointment. When you look at how much success PlayStation has had over the generations, it's not hard to see why they're number 1 again.

There's more depth to it than that. In the states the term "Xbox" or "360" was becoming more synonymous with games than "playstation"--especially in an online form(though that changed over the last few years. You also bring up Sonys only disappointments. You only bring up ps3. You must understand that the videogame market has changed drastically over that transition leading up before the 360/ps3. Before, Sony was the de-facto producer of electronics, justified in many cases, and if not, well then still recognized by the public as such. Sony had the best televisions, portable audio, phones(up their with nokia), etc. Even if they weren't always the best, they were still respected.

Back then Sony really had the vision of this "ecosystem" before apple--one which apple pulled off much better. Then you come to the ps3 launch hype. The thing is outrageously expensive..................................psp..........................................................psv....................................etc. For years it was like watching a company pack their boxes. So, having hesitation towards ps4 would be understandable imo, but as things show, Sony have really been nailing it.

I'll admit. I expected the PS4 to be the superior console, that's why I bought mine before my xbox, but if didn't believe it would have SUCH a huge demand as it has. I figured it would be close for the first year or so.

as in specs? Cause I was on the fence coming from the PS3 drama into the new generation. This was MS's chance to stomp them out of the console business for good with an absolute beast of a machine. I'm honestly surprised it never turned out like that. Pretty epic turnaround by Sony.

So let me get this straight. The one thing you have to add to the discussion is the fact that PS3 isn't leading the 360 in sales, but you have absolutely nothing to back that up with? Even less than I have to prove it?

lol, and you dont have anything to the contrary.

The last we heard, 360 reached 80m before PS3.

A few weeks before the PS3 which was selling better world wide,so unless you think selling more world wide will leave you in the same place for ever your argument is just as wrong.

They are tied now and the difference in favor of any is so small it is basically a joke to hold on to it,fact is sony release a $600 console 1 year latter and they catch up MS,if the xbox one were to come this year instead of last November the PS4 would completely destroy it in the same way the PS2 destroyed the xbox,a head start in sony's hand is not the same as in other people hands,we already confirm that,Nintendo launch last year and sony pass them already and the xbox released 1 year before it and even with all things against it they catch up.

Once sony get and advantage on you is not so easy, ask Nintendo and MS.

And i am not agree with his links or his argument, but holding tied to the xbox 360 reach 80 million first is a joke, the xbox 360 also reach 40,50,and 60 million first didn't stop the PS3 from catching it.

Very early days, Sony has a lead and if they can find financial stability the good times it keeps promising may come. If they keep laying off staff the 1st party will produce less and Microsoft could take the lead in this area. If Microsoft decide they must win at all costs they could, but they run a business so this is unlikely.

Using ps3/360 as a basis for this gen is the only thing people who don't have that inside knowledge can do. But its a different generation and lessons have been learned and priorities are different.

I'll be brief:

  • The XBox 360 won the "hd console last gen" not Sony, Sorry.
  • Last gen races don't mean anything to the current gen.
  • LOL that you think this gen is already "won" by Sony.

There were no HD wars you buffoon, another crap coin up by lemming like console exclusive to try to make see the xbox 360 as a winner, the Wii won MS loss so did sony and they both ended tied.

You got that right reason why sony is smoking MS this gen.

If there is no change in pace yeah i think so to,fiscal year ending numbers should be fun..lol

At this pace the PS4 should be at 10 million like june or july,i am sure MS will not be there.

Oh and the xbox one officially is 3rd now until it pass the Wii U which has more than 5 million units,i hear MS is close to 4..lol

Your post is beyond stupid. Number 1 and 2 are only meaningful to fans on gaming websites. In the corporate world its all about revenue after operating costs. Are you operating in the black or not. PS1 and 2 were amazingly successful. PS3 lost everything and is one of the factors Sony is in the mess they are in right now. The 360 was such a gigantic success over the OG Box that its amazing. Te One and PS4 have been out a total of 4 and a half months you you seem to be declaring a gen victor when Sony is hemorrhaging money left and right, and their are game delays, outright game cancellations, and people fleeing the company left and right or being fired. PS4 sales to date haven't been enough to not have the PS organization not get hit from all sides and losing Jack is a major mistake. I'm not willing to say MS will win this gen, but neither will I conceded to Sony after such a short launch period when their company is about to post yet another 1.5 billion loss. The PlayStation, as evident by recent events for the last few weeks is not being protected and those initial great sales aren't enough. There's a ton happening right now behind the scenes and its all far to soon to make any final predictions. But when you say Sony is used to being number one and they are selling buildings and firing people and closing Sony stores nationwide and cancelling games and lost Jack and about to post another 1.5 billion dollar loss while MS made 26 billion last year shows you are living in fantasy land. Xbox has a gigantic machine behind it and they have been hiring and updating the console and lowering the price and are proactive to turn things around. None of that resembles a company looking to discontinue r bow out of this race. Instead of predicting that the PS4 will rule the next five years, you may want to hope Sony is even around at all in five years.

@tormentos: You couldn't he more right. The Lems just want anything to hold on to, they know damn well PS3 is ahead now. Vgchartz is the best thing to indicate success at this point. Vgchartz isn't 100 percent correct but they're never so wrong as to have PS3 almost 2 million ahead of 360 just for the hell of it. Not to mention the time difference from them both reaching 80m was only 2 weeks. Hilarious that Lems think PS3 didn't clear 2 weeks of hardware sales when it's always sold a lot more worldwide. If a turtle gets a headstart and crosses the halfway mark first at the same time as the hare , it doesn't mean one should assume the turtle is going to be closer to the finish line when it's over. Lems these days.

There's really nothing to say. The 360 is still ahead of the PS3 and if the PS3 ever eclipsed the 360 there is zero doubt, especially now as Sony loves revealing sales numbers again, that they wouldn't issue a press release to throw it in MS's face.

They ended up tied period fact is the PS3 still sell more units world wide and you can't hold a lead that way, trying to hold to the xbox 360 reach 80 million a few weeks before serve you for nothing when the PS3 sell better world wide.

Sony doesn't reveal sales numbers,in fact they quick doing it on NPD bases trackers do that, sony only say numbers in certain occasions like on march that they reveal 6 millions sold.

Hey, if you believe that, ok. But with the way Sony has enjoyed needling and discussing sales from E3 till now if you truly believe that if they had clear data the PS3 was now ahead of the 360 and choose not to disclose it publicly when as Cows claim its been that way for months now, you're insane.

The Playstation 4 is $100 cheaper and considerably more powerful, so, yeah, it's going to sell better.

I guess the only real surprise was how much more powerful the Playstation 4 turned out to be. Somehow, I thought Microsoft would have pulled some sort of parity out from somewhere but that appears to have been unrealistic.

Not this gen. The PS4 is easily the better product at a better price. You get far more for your money and the market is responding to that.

If Microsoft would have launched at $399, not put everything behind a paywall, and wouldn't have ruined their initial hype with their original DRM policies, Microsoft would probably be enjoying a comfortable lead coming off of the strength they had last gen. However they screwed that up every chance they got. They'll be playing catch up for the forseeable future.

The lack of solid 1st party development is killing them too. Forza and Halo can only get you so far. They rely too much on 3rd party support and even that's been disappointing for them.

not at all.

1. Seriously, what the **** has Microsoft really done games-wise since mid-last gen? They gave up halfway through just to spam the same 3 franchises over and over until 1 pretty much died, another became a sad shell of its former self, and the 3rd turned into a yearly franchise with no mark-able improvements between each installment. They bought time with Titanfall and even that'll fail completely if EA decides to not take the check next year when they decide to start milking the franchise by forcing Respawn to crank it out that fast.

2. MS made some awfully bad PR decisions on par with 2006 Sony. It's going to take a lot more time and ass kissing to make people forget how badly MS wanted to **** them and be congratulated for it.

3. They have more expensive hardware and it's all because of an odd-on CAMERA the majority simply do not want and will likely never use save for VOICE CONTROLS.

I agree with the first party bit, but that is not something set in stone.... MS has already provided more than Sony in this department... and they have about equal announced. Microsoft has money to spend, sony has to go with what they got.

Is it better value by much though? here in the UK? my friends traded their 360s in and got the console + titanfall + year Xbox live for £280 ....

Even now, when I'm deciding. Titanfall and a year is £420 .... so is a PS4 + Game + Year PSN...

Ofcourse the power difference is there.... if it is even as big as they make out..... what if there are good kinect/fitness games ect that come along? (I'm not joking... they can be fun.) especially now that this kinect isn't such a pain to get working.

Microsoft 1st party studios are pretty thin. They have to rely on hiring out 3rd parties and trying to secure exclusive rights that way. They have a handful of games announced, but almost all of them are by 3rd party studios and being published by Microsoft. Microsoft's only two strong 1st party brands are Halo and Forza. Gears really fell with Judgement and the sales of that series were never super high to begin with. This is going to come back to bite them. Sony has already banked on both Killzone and Infamous, neither of which were huge hits either, but they have a larger library of known 1st party game series to work with and most of them have a sequel or another installment in the series in work right now.

What's worse is that on the 3rd party multiplatform side of things they don't have any major advantages anymore. Early on last gen the PS3 was always the far inferior platform to play multiplatform games on. Not only was the console more expensive, it lacked basic things like rumble on the controller, lacked achievements, games ran noticeably worse (not 1080p vs 900p but rather smooth vs. broken and buggy), and PSN was always a very lackluster experience compared to XBL. All of those things have been addressed and Sony has been able to put out the PS4 for $100 less.

I'll tell you from my own personal experience that Titanfall is not worth buying a console over. I've got it on my PC and once the novelty wears off there isn't much to the game. I wouldn't bet on Titanfall, especially since Titanfall 2 will be multiplatform. Unless you're a huge fan of Halo, it's hard to justify the Xbox One right now.

I don't get why it's hard to believe either. You'd think PS3 sold 50 million units last gen or something. The problem is people looked at US numbers and thought it meant everything. Even then, MS only got in that position because Sony screwed up so badly in the start of last gen. It's not that MS is just that good.

Oh please the thing sony want less at this moment is talk about how the PS3 catch the xbox one 8 years latter, when they can put all their energy in showing how the PS4 is selling better and pulled more than a 2 million lead in just a few months.

The PS3 reach 80 millions just a few weeks after the xbox 360 did,the xbox 360 is dead in Japan while the PS3 still is the second best selling console now behind the PS4,in EU the PS3 dominate the same,so yeah US alone will not save MS any more and the lead was nothing in October not even 1 million,so yeah by now is nothing, the PS4 pulled more than 2million on the xbox one in just 3 months so i am sure sony doesn't care about the PS3.

The whole last gen you did not care about the sales of Sony, until it passed Microsoft. Just shut up about it then.

First of all Sony will always deliver more exclusives,it always happen and not the same sh** over and over again they actually try to create new things, hell even by list running online the PS4 has more game on the making.

MS money is irrelevant they have money to spend yet they charge you $500 dollars a console with a GPU equivalent to a 7770,come on man,the xbox one need to turn profits or the brand will be gone period they have 13 years trying, regardless of MS money they will not endure losses for ever, which is the reason why it has such a weak GPU.

Did you just used trading something in as an advantage for the xbox one.? Because certainly some one could trade in his PS3 and get PS4 even cheaper, also is not only the price is what you get for it,the PS4 is a more powerful machine that allow you to change your HDD something the xbox one doesn't allow you to do,and it doesn't hide every single app behind a pay wall.

You know, there are a lot of people who differentiated the PS3 & 360 from the Wii. I did not make that up. So, don't shoot the messenger on that.

As for PS4/XBox One sales, I agree with MS when they say "its a sprint, not a marathon." The PS3 got its ass kicked for 3 years, and came roaring back - the XBox One can do the same.

Surprised? A bit.

MS seemed very proud of the 360's accomplishments, especially in NA, and they had ample feedback from the community as to what they wanted and didn't want going forward. And they did almost the complete opposite. Performance, Gaming focus, Kinect... they basically doubled down on all the things that gamers didn't want repeated from the 360. And we haven't even mentioned the "TV TV, Sports Sports, DRM, Always online" Uberfiasco that dominated the narrative for months after its reveal. One of the most shocking own goals I've seen for such a high profile product.

If anything this generation has cemented in my mind that the Third Console Curse is real and it's terrifying.

This is the most hilarious piece of bullshit I have ever heard.

People aren't better informed, they are probably worse off than before social media reared it's ugly head.

One only has to look at the absolute wealth of bad information and FUD mongering from ALL sides on the internet. You are, and always have been better off doing your own research and coming up with your own conclusions than listening to a bunch of morons with agendas telling you what they think you should buy.

Agreed. I mean let's face it. Sony was on a steep decline. Went from destroying other consoles in sales to being destroyed, they are facing bankruptcy, I mean all the chips were lined up for Microsoft to swoop in and kill the PS4, but Sony was able to cram better hardware into a cheaper price - quite surprising. I just hope that they can deliver on the games to keep the pedal to the floor.

@StormyJoe: No, the Xbox can't do the same. PS3 made a comeback because of Sony's first party and value as a brand. When are you and Lems going to get it through your heads that Xbox isn't as big a brand as PlayStation. Only US and UK cares about the Xbox One. Xbox lacks international appeal. X1 would almost have to double PS4 sales in US, and since Sony didn't shoot themselves in the foot this time like they did with PS3, that's not gonna happen.

No for market purposes the xbox 360 and PS3 loss and it is written already like that.

The PS3 never got its ass kicked in Japan or mainland EU which is different to what is happening now,the xbox 360 had US on lock and a advantage of up to $300 in price, this time around US is buying the PS4 more,EU is buying the PS4 more (UK included) and Japan is buying the PS4 more.

So with that scenario MS can't catch sony, they just can't they need something to balance sales and they don't have it by selling close to the PS4 in US they will not win when they are losing by a land slide every where else.

It didn't take the PS3 3 years to beat the xbox 360 in Japan and mainland EU it was much much faster in Japan case since the opening bell.

Come on man how was sony destroy..

Wii 101 million.

xbox 360 80 million

PS3 80 million...

Compared to how they sold about 150 million the gen before. Losing by over 20 million AND having your sales cut almost in half is being "destroyed" in my book. All I'm saying is Sony was on their last leg and Microsoft had a perfect chance to close it out and now that they have given Sony a little breathing room, Sony has taken advantage and then some with the PS4. The PS4 reminds me of the PS2 in so many ways.

Not me. I've been calling it since the middle of last gen. You have to be a real fanboy to live in denial of market trends and facts. PlayStation is the world wide favorite brand, period.

Half of the 360's sales were outside the US. Go look it up.

Sony is winning for the same reason MS was even competitive last gen.

MS beat themselves just as Sony beat themselves.

And no, PS3 isnt 2m ahead of 360.

What the hell dude, do you even try?

The difference is PS4 is riding on PS3 successes from 2009 and on. Xbox had to wait until Xbox 360 for the brand to become a hot seller. There never was a reset in terms of trust or popularity with PS4 like there was for Xbox One.

HDD is a minor thing.

Pay wall is pointless as I would have to pay PSN+ anyway, and Xbox live for multiplayer, your both milked fools that rolled over and made this the norm.

The PS3 was a disaster for many different reasons. They went from absolute unquestioned market leaders to dead last place and embarrassment.

But main reason the PS3 was such a disaster is that it lost Sony billions.

MS made money on the 360, they still do and they're making money on the X1 which is a success so far btw. Even with the hardware problems they will turn things around.

Competition is good.

Even at this early juncture, it is clearly obvious that the PS4 is much more of a gaming beast than the Xbox One is. Killzone Shadow Fall, Infamous Second Son and BF4 all separate themselves from Xbox One's best offerings quite easily! CoD Ghosts and NBA 2K14 are also superior visually on the PS4!
