Infamous: Second Son Update Incoming: Change Time of Day, HUD Off, 30FPS Option

Ten days.

That’s how long it’s been since I went to the midnight launch of Second Son here in Bellevue, Washington (just outside Seattle). I must have talked to over 100 people there, and so many more on social media and forums, Twitter, NeoGAF, etc. since then. It’s been amazing to see the excitement and passion of inFAMOUS fans, new and old. I want to let you all know how much your enthusiasm and support means to us, how it renews us, and readies us to go try to make even better games in the future.

Change Time-of-Day

Once you beat the game, a new entry will appear on the options menu to allow you to select the time of day! A very popular request indeed, and one we’re excited to enable for you all.

HUD On/Off

Especially for those amazingly talented screenshot taking folks, we’re including an option to let you turn the HUD on and off.

Cap at 30FPS

Internally we prefer the unlocked frame rate, but we recognize that some players find it distressing. So we’ll provide a way to ensure the game is not bumping up over 30FPS, if that’s how you prefer to play.

Of course, our coders and QA team are working to try to identify and resolve key bugs, and we’ll look at incorporating important fixes in the patch too. And who knows… if we’re inspired enough, we may sneak a few other little things in too. Time will tell!

We’re all working hard to release these updates as soon as we can. Time-wise, the earliest we could have the patch and new features ready is about two weeks from now, so stay tuned for another update — we’ll let you know as soon as they’re ready to go live. Will it make the game not boring?

I would be more excited if they patched in the ability for the game to cycle the time of the day itself. Something that should have been there from the start.

Eh, platinumed it and lost all interest. It was fun, but very short with very little replay ability, and to be honest ... very boring, recycled side quests. It was clearly rushed.

I like how Sucker Punch is actually listening to their fans to make these updates.

Now if only they could listen to just about every single player and max concrete a decent power, because at the moment it's total garbage.

Sheens before launch: oh yeah infamous locked 60 fps blah blah blah.
Sheens after launch: variable frame rate isn't a bad thing.
Sheens after update: oh yeah the ability to lock it at 30 fps!

What game does not have a patch these days. Most have a day one patch which is worse imo. Very anti gamer. You must be the brains round here.

Did that Forza update ever come to allow night racing and rain?

In what aspect are you refering to as empty? I've had upwards of 40+ people killed in one attack.

That 30fps cap is a very good option to have as it's quite common for players to be sensitive to 30 to 40fps frame rate fluctuations... I'm one of them and notice it quiet badly.... So good job on SP

I would like to see some sort of expansion to the games endings to allow more playtime via dlc.

Being able to change the time of day post story was the thing I wanted most in a patch, so I'm more than ecstatic that it's coming. :D

What I find funny is before and after they never talk about anything gameplay related. You never hear how amazing the quests are or how amazing the enemy AI is or anything else, it is all bu..bu...bu..but it looks good so it is AMAZING

I don't know. I'm not really into racing games, nor do I have an Xbone. Seems like it should have day and night cycles also.

Kinda my feelings on it. I played through it twice and it's shocking how short the campaign really is.

He's relying on previous released screen shots since he doesn't own the hardware. I confess some screens did paint a city with a little population, but once the game starts you realize it's just poor shots floating out there.

Owning the game I found it laughable comment (I unlocked the second power of neonz), but you learn to detect in SW who's for real around here. I almost made some screens just to show off the population, but I was too lazy to bother.

Could be worse. These are superfluous changes that were just a nod of the hat to their fans. Could be like PC gaming. Buy a game and hope they have it fixed in 3 months.

Uh oh, I just stated an opinion.

I wonder why they didn't lock the frame rate at 30 to begin with. It is really disruptive to the experience when the frame rate is jumping all over the place. I will lock it for sure when I do my evil play through.

Game is fantastic, but I would have loved a multiplayer using those powers if I could have had any addition, shit would have been crazy with 16 vs 16 matches.

Still the option for changing the day time cycle is appreciated, and I will play around with this.
