  1. Assassin's Creed II
  2. Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag
  3. Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood
  4. Assassin's Creed III
  5. Assassin's Creed
  6. Assassin's Creed: Revelations

SOURCE

They actually got it completely right (although at least right now, I think II and IV are on an even footing, with IV having the better open world). Black Flag is a return to form for the series, let's hope Ubisoft doesn't screw it up again.

I don't know. It's a Ubisoft open world game. Always skeptical of those. Especially after AC3 and Far Cry 3.

Having not played ac4 I can't judge it, but needless to say the fact they put it over Brotherhood is encouraging. Brotherhood and 2 are tops... I'd put revelations last. I actually really liked ac1 a ton. Still do.

FC3 was actually pretty damn good, as for AC3 indeed it was probably the most over hyped game I've ever bought.

Revelations is the most underrated in the series. Brotherhood in my opinion being the worst, II is without a doubt the best, followed by Revelations and III. I haven't played Black Flag yet.

I've played Assassin's Creed II to near 100% completion and have already sunk an unholy amount of time into AC4. So far I can say that the second was pretty good and that the fourth is just incredible.

P.S. What IS the deal with Assassin's Creed III? It looks pretty similar to the rest of the series. What exactly did the developers do so wrong that particular time? I've always been curious about this.

Revelations is very underrated within the series, it's most definitely better than I and III and imo better than Brotherhood since it felt more like an expansion to II.

The setting and feel of the game was amazing, one of the best openings to a video game ever, story was great too since I fucking love Altair but I can see why a lot of people dislike it. For me it was a perfect ending to Ezio and Altairs story.

Anyway Can't wait to play Black Flag, waiting for the next gen version.

Assassin's Creed 1 probably deserves to be a spot higher on the list. It started the series, and it had the best assassinations...which was the whole point of the series...originally.

I'd put 1 above 3, 1 was repetitive as hell but at least it wasn't horribly boring. I just tried playing 3 again and I'm still doing the fucking ridiculous 6 hour intro/tutorial, it's horrible.

Hold the fucking phone. Brotherhood is awesome!

My main problem with Brotherhood is its extremely unpolished finale acts. Other than that I respect it for its content and replayability, plus the multiplayer was a great addition.

Overall I find AC1 to be the most polished and consistent, with its story being the highlight of the series' plot. I found AC2 to be the best in the series by including a memorable character and an excellent setting, but a rushed story only saved by the jaw-dropping ending. Brotherhood in my opinion tried to do too much, and ended up feeling extremely rushed. It did however include a ridiculous amount of content, but the city of Rome and its atmosphere just didn't click for me. Revelations to me was the emotional climax of the series, ending Ezio and Altair's story in an incredibly emotional ending that hasn't been duplicated in the series yet. AC3 was without a doubt the most ambitious, but it was also incredibly rushed. It had a chance of concluding the series with a great ending, but was ruined due to terrible presentation. The story of Connor however was great.

I'm glad that Black Flag seems to be doing well, I'm also curious to see if it can make up for some of the mistakes that AC3 made regarding the plot. But overall I feel that the annual release is killing this incredibly ambitious franchise, and ruining what little dignity it has left. I believe that the Assassin's Creed series should've been a truly memorable franchise that could have been held in high regard years from now, but the chances of that happening are very slim. It really is wasted potential.

I'm just going to copy/paste what I wrote in another thread where I outlined the flaws with Assassin's Creed III:

'Broken pacing, banal and repetitive mission design, ancillary activities that had no bearing on the main story, bugs and glitches all over the place, a bullshit story, just off the top of my head.'

@TheEroica said:

The game is so brisk, no more ten hour long tutorials, or broken pacing with monotonous mission design, no more side activities that have nothing to do with the main game itself, it's got incredible mission variety, a very fast pace, and an open world that is literally yours to do with as you will, with everything counting towards something, nothing being pointless. If you come online on Steam, I can tell you more about it :P

I actually liked Revelations, not for the gameplay as much, which was just a retread of the previous two games, but because of how well it ended the story; Revelations actually ended the story much better than III managed to do.

Also another thing Revelations should be praised on is the Lost Archives DLC. That was truly one of the most beautiful experience I've ever had in a game. The atmosphere was so daunting, and the soundtrack... my goodness. It really was out of this world, I played it all through in one, and was just stuck in a trance. It was an incredibly surreal experience, with more character depth than any of the main titles have ever been able to create bar Ezio and his memorable ending.

naah... I could see the point that the story does go on a few hours and one whole island too long, but where I always give Ubi credit in the open world design, is they keep the game moving, sans AC3 (tears... just tears...) of course. I think they pace out the open world action game incredibly well.

What did you mean by "chore to play"

@charizard1605: Daauummm, that sounds so good. You pretty much described exactly what I love about AC2 and brotherhood... the long stretches of gameplay where every rooftop you climbed and every direction you went had purpose against the missions/tasks/personal gain. That flow of gameplay is what I desperately want back in Assassins Creed... sounds like you just described it to a T.

No Steam for me for another few days :( I don't even want to tell you the moronic, newb PC gamer thing I did to brick my gaming pc. It's bad...

same. revelations might not have been the best plot-wise, but it's certainly better than III. that game was subpar save for the homestead and navy missions. Revelations had satisfying conclusions to both Ezio and Altair's stories and the gameplay itself was sound.
