If you have a PlayStation, PLAY VELOCITY 2X

Words cannot express how amazing this game is. Like, seriously, you've probably heard the hype, you've read all those reviews, and I am here to tell you, they are all right. Velocity 2X is literally poetry in motion. It is game design exemplified and perfected. It is like some weird love child of an unholy orgy between Star Fox and Metroid, the kind of game we have wanted for years but one that we never got.

It is so badass, so compelling, so deliciously satisfying. You just can't pull yourself away from the screen. You can't stop playing. This is a game that is so easy to actually 'play' but so hard to play. Oh, completing each level? Child's play. Actually doing well in the game, as it taunts you with those elusive Perfect medals? ****, you're in for a long ride.

It has 50 amazing levels. Fifty. And each of those is so tightly designed, blending such a mix of gameplay styles, that you'll always be shaking your head in disbelief at how it's even possible for such a wonderful fusion of gameplay to work.

Seriously, play Velocity 2X. It's definitely one of the best games of the year, and one of the best games on the PS4 and PS Vita right now.

Velocity 2X features puzzle-platforming action alongside top-down shoot-'em-up gameplay.

"puzzle-platforming" My all time least favorite mechanics a video game can offer brought together as one! Sounds terrible.

I think this game shows how derivative Mario has become. Picking this up.

Honestly, I'm not too sure on the puzzle part. There's tons of platforming, and it's very precise, but puzzles? Maybe I'm just a little more acclimatized to more demanding puzzle platformers like Stealth Inc or something, but I have not so far found the platforming in Velocity to be 'puzzle' platforming.

Just like Uncharted, I'm sure Velocity 2X is a great game (as the GameSpot 9.0 would indicate) but I cannot play platfomers...I'd rather be chained up and beaten then play even the most well made platformer.

I agree it's an amazing game, I was pleasantly surprised when i started playing it, and really enjoyed it. I can't play it for long stints but in short bursts is incredible. This is coming from someone who hates Metroid.

As a completionist, I feel I wouldn't stand the difficulty.

i'm enjoying the game.. got it for both PS4 / PS Vita however am enjoying the Vita version more... It brought that old school vibe of the early 90's..

I REALLY want to play this game quite badly, but I do not yet have a PS4. It's definitely on my to buy list as soon as I get the system.

Watching the videos of the game in action leads me to believe that it's not a game I'd particularly enjoy. Got it through PS+ though so I'll try it eventually.

Backlog is currently pretty full at the moment, I keep playing D3:UEE, Destiny arrives today and I still haven't finished TLoU:R. And that's just on my PS4.

I did take the time to beat Rogue Legacy, though. That game did not disappoint.

Sadly that's the way I've become also.

I bought Guacamelee on a half off sale less than a month ago and got maybe half way thru it and just had to put the controller down. Ultra precise wall jumping and backtracking are not my ideas of fun. I HATED the grappling mechanics as well.

I wouldn't mind playing SMB3 or the SNES Marios again, but I think that is my limits as far as platformers go.

It is pretty fun. Need to learn how to go faster through levels.

im not a fan of space ship games. I played the first and was bord after 2 minutes. The on ground parts look cool and I wish the whole game was just that. I have it since I have PS+ but im not rushing to play it.

Played it, wasn't that impressed.... tedious twitch gameplay over and over.

...I have money to buy games for it and I agree with him. Heck I probably wouldn't have gotten a vita if I didn't already have a PS+ sub for my PS3. I've only purchased one vita game out of the like 20 installed on my vita atm

I said this last week, but I'm surprised how much fun I've had with Velocity 2x (90/100 Metacritic score, AAA 9.0 score at GS).

In an earlier PS+ thread when the games were just announced and not playable, the consensus was that it was the worst month of PS+ ever by many users. I said at the time, "Hoard, Velocity[2x], and TxK I'm wanting to check out. Not my favorite month, but maybe one of those will surprise." Velocity did just that. Boy, what a shocker. I like that Velocity 2x was yet another title so new to gamers and PS+ that Velocity 2x was a mystery in quality (although the developer FuturLab has been consistently pretty decent). I expected decent, not greatness.

Velocity 2x slipped under the radar since it was one of the PS+ games that were so new it didn't have a MC score and we didn't know how great it would turn out. I guess the lesson is we shouldn't judge these games that are PS+ free until we at least try them.

Remember TC in that very thread I linked above, because we didn't know Velocity 2x's quality, you said 9 posts above mine, "I guess PSASBR is nice for those who haven't played it? Shitty month overall." You weren't alone of course, many skipped over the announcement of Velocity 2x. Poor Velocity 2x wasn't even mentioned by most in the thread, just stating it was a terrible month of games. I too had only a small indicator knowing FuturLab was behind Velocity 2x, but I didn't want to throw the PS+ month under the bus without messing about with the unknown games first. I did say it wasn't my favorite month, but this game redeemed the month for me as a better month.

Downloaded it on Vita. Will play eventually. Playing Destiny. Loving it.
