Poll If you had to choose between Nintendo and SONY exclusives... (174 votes)

SONY 29%
Nintendo 71%

Which company's platforms exclusives appeal to you most?

i.e. what would you pick if you had to choose exclusive titles from one of those two company's platforms (3rd party exclusives count as well)?

Exclusives overall? In the long run I could see going with Sony because on top of what Naughty Dog makes they'll get some third party stuff here and there like Bloodborne, and some other Japanese stuff like Yakuza, Persona, or the off chance they end up publishing a Platinum game or getting something from Kojima.

Purely first party work: Nintendo.

1st party, Nintendo without a doubt.

3rd party included? Tough to say really, gotta see how this gen pans out.

If we're basing it on current exclusive lineups, Nintendo. Since we're counting 3rd parties, overall I'd choose Sony, basing it off last gen.

Sony....mostly for the variety.

Nintendo makes great games, but their heavy hitters are always the same old characters confined to the tired old universe which gets very old very fast.

Gotta go with Nintendo, though I'd be sad to leave Sony's exclusives behind.

Nintendo. By a huge margin.

Only Sony exclusive franchise that I am truly passionate about on the same level as Nintendo games is inFAMOUS (and even this is because I haven't played Second Son which according to just about everyone is subpar in quality). Especially nowadays, they seem to be focusing on stupid scripted linear shooter/action bullshits that I have lost interest in most of them (especially God of War).

If we include 3rd party exclusives and multiplats, it's probably the other way around.

Be more specific. When one says exclusives, do you mean first party? Or include third party games on that platform?

In either case I'd go with Nintendo, since they have the strongest first party line-up and I could easily live with just those.

Nintendo for sure. If Nintendo could've reintegrated themselves into the modern game market I would've snatched up a Nintendo console this gen for sure.

However, the array of third party titles I'm interested in far exceeds the output of interesting 1st party titles from either console maker. It's that failure by nintendo to put out a machine that consumers could rely on to have 3rd party support in this age of the multiplat that relegated their machine to an afterthought. Again.

First party only I will take Nintendo over Sony but over all exclusives then I would take PS3 over Wii U (ps4 is still not worth getting since it lacks both).

Nintendo. The inclusion of third party exclusives actually makes this an interesting question, and a little bit harder to answer than it would have been otherwise, but the answer is still very clearly Nintendo.

This is not a slight against Sony, mind you, their exclusives are still great. But Nintendo exclusives are, quite literally at this point, games people spend hundreds of dollars on.

I don't, but if I did, I played Nintendo exclusives 20 years ago. There's only so many times a neutral can play mario kart. I want Bloodborne now.

@walloftruth: that's such an overrated cliche that falls flat on its arse 95% of the time.

Takes a nazi to know a nazi?

Takes a giraffe to know a giraffe when you see one?

Takes a child to know what a child is? No. Just no. Most of us have the critical analysis skills to discern a lot of things without actually experiencing it.

Sony has only a couple worthwhile exclusives that's on their way, a handful of rent-worthy unworthwhile exclusives. Nintendo on the other hand simply has too many quality exclusives on both their Wii U and 3DS platforms.

I think nobody can fight Nintendo in exclusives. And it's a contextual discussion that hugely favours Nintendo. The more realistic debate comes from the opportunity cost between a Nintendo console vs say....a Sony console. If we solely look at exclusives, nobody beats Nintendo. Not Microsoft, not Sony. But buying a Nintendo console at the expense of a non-Nintendo console might mean you will miss out on a wide spectrum of 3rd party games. I'll take the 3rd parties and whatever few exclusives Sony has over just Nintendo exclusives alone

If I cared about handhelds I'd probably give it to Nintendo, but when asked the question I only look at what the consoles provide so I have to give it to Sony.

Nintendo's 1st party ips barring Metroid and Zelda are fuckin' trash to me. I can't even picture myself playing most Nintendo games. My answer is Sony, easily. I put on my big boy pants and outgrew Nintendo games a decade back.

In Nintendo's defense, I think most of us can agree that Nintendo games are fun to play. But that doesn't mean we intend to play that type of games all year round, every year. I don't mind a Mario game here and there. But to have so many Mario-themed games is just tiresome.

I would pick Nintendo if they exhibited any propensity to develop IP with the express intention to explore the medium's seemingly endless communicative abilities. Instead, they continually regurgitate their IPs and remain adverse to developing works that are more than just "toys."

So even though I knowingly concede that experimentation results in occasional, piecemeal triumphs and more often in sour disappointments, I vote Sony.

It has to appeal to me first for me to get into and have fun with it. People swear up and down how great Plants vs Zombies is, but when I tried it I found myself passing the controller back to my buddy. Metroid's world, sci fi and exploration elements still appeal to me. Zelda's lore, world and exploration of the world still appeal.

I can't play shit like Smash and Mario Kart for example. The looks and presentation turn me off to the games as a whole. I feel 0 immersion in the majority of Nintendo's content. If you can't get into it it's not likely you can have fun with it, and that my friend is my case with Nintendo. Just can't get into their shit anymore really. Last Mario game I really gave a shit about btw was Super Mario 64.

Back in the PS2 gen I might have had a hard time answering, but now? Not so much. Nintendo all the way.
