Amount sold in 24hrs is about 1:1, so we take the ratio of the populations of the countries the console was available to on day one. 1,018.095M / 348.78M = 2.92.

Did you really research all these statistics or is this another make believe cow fantasy? All we know is the million mark for both consoles and PS4 yet to launch in other regions.

You can not conclude that PS4 outsells Xbone 3:1 because Xbone launched in more territories.

Although you can conclude that PS4 did much better than Xbone in one single region. (US)

I might be wrong but doesn't north America account for majority of sell usually when it comes to video games. If not the majority I know its close to majority so basically going buy population is pretty bad way to calculate sales since some of the countries might not buy that much anyway.

Nothin', I was playing it from 6 PM to 2 AM last night and I was tired. Thought I'd make this thread for fun since no one did the math behind the sales yet. :D

As you are well aware, I'm a big fan of mathematics. There is no proof of outselling.

However, there is suggestion of better market penetration of one console. Then again, this is purely academic, because one console launched in two regions, the other console launched in those two regions AND a whole bunch of other regions.

I could turn this around and say, well when you only go for regions about a third the size of your competitor, it's no surprise you get about 3x the market penetration.

You have entirely too much time on your hands. At least wait till PS4 releases in Europe, then you can start up the sales debates again. Till then they are rather silly.

It's also the fact that they sold the same amount of consoles within the same amount of time. I understand that the sales ratios are different country to country. The ratio can't be that much lower than 2:1 in the Unites States, they couldn't have sold more than 750,000 consoles there, because that would be very lopsided up against the other 900 million people the console was available to. So the ratio in the US is definitely in favor of the PS4. There's no doubt about that.

We don't know shit until Sony and MS release actual numbers.....so good math work too bad you did it for nothing.

Xbox One has been out for 4 days, Playstation 4 has been out for 11 days. What will happen if we calculate sales per day? The answer is Xbox One is going to look about 2-3x better than Playstation 4. But this is just an illustration of a point, obviously there is no ownage in sales per day.

And if this purported 2:1 difference exists in the USA, why does it exist? My suggestion: logistics and supply chain management, for exactly the reason you state, because they made launch consoles available in the other regions. So that means this ratio is entirely artificial, all it reflects is the availability manufacturers chose / could produce.

I think it will take until Feb of 2015 to get an idea of who's really winning the 'sales war'. The best evidence I've seen so far is proof of unsold Xbox One's in United States Megacities.

A sale is a sale..It matters nothing on where that sale is.

I kinda like playing the lemming part around here. They are almost all gone these days.

In all honesty the fact that these consoles are hitting a million units so fast is a sign gaming is bigger than ever. Compared to last gens first days it's pretty crazy. If either company had another million available in sure those would be gone too. Now hopefully the game quality goes upward this gen. I really want to see longer games and better AI and physics. Graphics being better isn't so bad either. Can't wait to see what is in store for ALL gamers this gen.
