Ofcourse it was boring... its slow halo combat with barely any aiming skill... and moonwalking speed... combined in a grind-mmo-shooter format..... in others words just a much more sizable repteititve halo campaign with rpg elements... I couldn't think of a more boring concept. at least Borderlands had proper gun-play and a good pace to it.

There is a reason Halo's relevence diminished over the years....

Yeah, I'd say that Halo lost its popularity because Bungie focused too much on the multiplayer and the single player campaigns started to suffer. This game doesn't even have a single player campaign, so color me not interested.

Get your facts straight before you post. People assume that you will not have your own story because of the MMO elements, but that is not true. Did you not notice the pale humanoid character talking in a cutscene in the earlier trailers? Next time, do your research.

I never said the game doesn't have any type of a story. It just doesn't have a single player campaign. Why would it require an online connection if it has one?

The point is that you can play solo and there is actually a story to complete. I guess that you are talking strictly single player, but you are still not require to participate in the multiplayer aspect of the game.

I am not getting the game because I don't understand what it is supposed to be. I am hearing it is online only/borderlands/mmo/halo/online campaign and you can sell items and stuff. I don't get it. I don't want it.

So you are a whiner?

Watched all the available footage, came away unimpressed. Visuals are crisp and detailed, but not alot of frantic action going on, and the powers look over hyped. Waiting to here about the multiplayer though. I'm not gonna pre-order this for the One until there is more info. So far, hype diminishing...

Actually what makes me laugh is Bungie, who is known for making it's mark in the industry by creating the ultimate Sci-Fi shooter known to all as HALO, is now given the chance to break away from the franchise and assume a new identity with a new I.P. and what are they doing?

There making another sci-fi shooter..LOL....Seriously?, is that the only genre they know?, or is that all they think will sell?.....Why not try an open world RPG, or Platformer, or even a new Xtreme sport title?, Something, any other genre thats not overly saturated like the FPS market.

I'm not surprised, it does look boring.

Halo was a shitty FPS that only became popular due to it being pretty much the only available FPS on the XBOX at the time; the maps were repetitive as fuck in single and multiplayer and the gun mechanics were some of the stupidest shit I've ever seen in my life (my rifle can't zoom in--no it's gotta have a big display telling me my ammo!--but this pistol here can snipe from a mile away! Fucking stupid).

Destiny is built as an open world FPS/RPG/MMO. Except Bungie isn't calling Destiny open world, or an MMO based on the connotations that those labels bring.

Bungie knows who they are and what they're good at and that is the sci-fi FPS. From Pathways Into Darkness to Marathon to Halo to Destiny, Bungie makes groundbreaking sci-fi FPS series.

First off: Who cares about Kotaku. That is like getting slammed by Molyneux or Pacter.

That said, when I hear talk about Destiny alls I think is: "So you are going to revolutionize Borderlands 2 by copy and pasting everything but that which made it unique? Yep, sounds like a Halo Dev to me." So freaking thank you for showing me I think like Kotaku. I am going to go find booze until I forgot.

Borderlands 2 is not all that unique when it comes to core mechanics, so please do not use that bullshit.

Core mechanics, you mean that thing Destiny is copying? Yeah I don't think it is very unique either. That is why I said Destiny is copy and pasting everything but that which made Borderlands 2 unique.Did you seriously think I was saying Destiny was ripping off everything about Borderlands 2 except the core game mechanics, or did you just jump on a chance to swear on the internet like a boss?

I am sorry. Honestly, so many people are saying that it is ripoff off or boderlands to the point where It has gotten annoying, even so, I would not call it copying and pasting. Why do you see it as copying and pasting?

Actually it is not . It may be boring for those who love on rail shooters , and are not into thinking and planning tactics but that doesn't mean it is boring for all of us . For fans of non linear games , other shooters are way more boring and Semi open world games like Crysis and STALKER are quite enjoyable .

sounds like a typical console game to me; big-dollar presentation combined with a dead-simple, uninspiring gameplay. just another CoD. endless barrage of scripted events where you just point and shoot at the baddies.

we have regressed back to these days:

As I said , it is the matter of preference . Doesn't mean it is boring for everyone . I for one have no problem playing the game from any genre (except QTE fest games) as long as the game itself is fun and challenging , so I'm glad that I don't miss out on anything .

Fear is no half life. it can be repetetive but make no mistake it has one of the best gunplay and AI in any game ever.

Far cry 3 was terrible game. with long and painfully unskippable cutscenes, boring missions, basic gunplay, see thorugh walls etc.

i remember COD1 and UO doesnot have regen health but instead health bar system. it took skills unlike post modern warfare games. it was not popular at that time. but was better series.

"barely has any gameplay"? What would you quantify as "barely has any gameplay"?

Of course, you have no appreciation for the FPS genre...so I take anything you have to say on the subject with a grain of salt.

Borderlands. Floaty, weak feeling shooting for hours on end against the same boring enemies with numbers flying up while picking up a steady stream of increasingly more meaningless loot. There is nothing engaging about it at all.

So when you said "barely has any gameplay" you meant what exactly?

The thing about a random loot generator is that it is random. You could find a legendary, you could find a generic base model, you could find something in-between it is all completely random (well not completely as some enemies have a higher chance of dropping a legendary weapons than others -- Madame Von Bartlesby has the highest drop rate for the Baby Maker, for instance)

I mean what I just said. Shallow, mindless, repetitive, tedious "gameplay" that does nothing to engage me or make me care.

"The thing about a random loot generator is that it is random. You could find a legendary, you could find a generic base model"
The thing about it is that most of what I'm picking up is meaningless garbage and on the off chance I do get something "good" I won't care because the game has bored the shit out of me.

#147 Edited by Nightflash28 (2102 posts) -

This bugs me:

"I played 45 minutes of small slice a complex online FPS RPG with many different facets to it that I didn't even get to touch upon - it's boring"
"I played 10 minutes of Titanfall and I've basically already seen all there is to the game: it's fantastic"

I also hate it when people complain about "slow paced combat". Does ever damn shooter nowadays have to feel like COD?

Well first off, like many others, I know that the video is only 7 minutes long and shows a strike mission. Strike missions are incredibly small parts when compared to all other content in the game. I know that there will be a single player campaign, side quests, , customize gear, weapons that can be upgraded, vehicles, end game raids, public areas and events, shops, other planets that you can explore, and many other things that I have forgotten and things that bungie has not even talked about. I understand that you have not seen anything that interests, but it was only 7 minutes of gameplay. 7 MINUTES!!!

Not that CoD was also a big success on the PC... or that Destiny is console exclusive right now.
Besides flaming a lot, you're not making much of a point other than "console gamers are idiots and I play consoles, too".
