According to Kotaku, the greatest gaming website hip and down with the kids Destiny ain't all that.

Destiny link

First off: Who cares about Kotaku. That is like getting slammed by Molyneux or Pacter.

That said, when I hear talk about Destiny alls I think is: "So you are going to revolutionize Borderlands 2 by copy and pasting everything but that which made it unique? Yep, sounds like a Halo Dev to me." So freaking thank you for showing me I think like Kotaku. I am going to go find booze until I forgot.

#3 Edited by CrownKingArthur (4687 posts) -

good thing i'm not hyped about the game then.

I didn't think much of Destiny just from the vids I've seen. That is certainly one game I'll wait for all the reviews and gamer feedback from or maybe just rent it.

Borderlands 2 is Diablo ripoff. But shit.

I wouldn't make too much of that. Also it's a shooter. Shooters have been done to death and beyond.

the latest 7 minutes gameplay video was extremely generic, im kinda disappointed right now because i thought this was the best fps of the year

An opinion article from Kotaku, and as if it were not bad enough by itself, by one of their worst writers? She is one of the worst/best (depends on how you look at it) cases of "writting it solely for clicks and views".

One of the (many) gems of the article:

"It doesn't match the adrenaline rush high of Call of Duty.

lol just lol

#9 Edited by Lulu_Lulu (11670 posts) -

I read half of it. This bastard can't write always gets sidetracked the stupidest things.... Stop telling me about stupid Osbourne and focus on the game !

Anyway:

The reason it was kind of boring is because the gameplay was mediocre... Simple as that. The reason why other people are gona have tons of fun with it is because they're gona have an experience he didn't.

When the game releases you'l be able to create your own character and play it for much longer.... With your own creation you're going to be more invested in the game giving you the impression that its actually good, and before you know it 2 years will have passed, because MMO's !

Imho Destiny looks pretty underwhelming from the day it was announced. I guess this game is hyped only because it's made by Bungie.

#11 Posted by robokill (1064 posts) -

I thought it was boring since the first few seconds of watching it, what is it 8 player battles in relatively small environments? Snooze

Borderlands 2 is Diablo ripoff. But shit.

Games had randomly generated loot before Blizzard, and Borderlands 2 is a rip off of like everything in the past thirty years of popular culture.

I just watched a game play video of it and thought it looked boring so that's no surprise.

I agree, but take this aspects of the game into an account:

- it's a shooter that wants to be an MMO, or vice-versa.

- what exactly can you redefine at FPS genre? The game looks like just about any other shooter from the last five years.

- it doesn't have "that something" Halo had.

I'm sure Destiny will do great sales-wise, and it'll most definitely be supported by totally legit perfect 10 reviews from every site/magazine on the planet, because Activision needs another killer MMO to have a nice, steady income World of Warcraft generated all these years. But I feel the game will be crap nonetheless.

Well, I'll wait until E3 before I pass judgement. I think the game could go either way. I'd like it to be good but I wouldn't be too shocked if it sucks. Everybody seems to have a place in which they thought the Halo franchise took a nose-dive. I actually thought as far as SP went they did a good job all the way up to Reach and that it was 343 that took it over the cliff with Anniversary and Halo 4.

Part of me worries Destiny could try being too ambitious with it's online features, but hey what is progress without risks. If it's awesome then that's great, if not then it'll be something developers can learn from and maybe improve upon. Something tells me though with the Bungie and "Creators of Halo" behind the marketing of it, it'll probably sell really well regardless of its quality.

Anyhow, looks like a mix of Halo meets Borderlands, maybe it'll do well. I wouldn't be surprised if it got delayed another year if it's not up to snuff.

#18 Posted by Indicud (739 posts) -

I for one thought it looked awesome

#19 Posted by Masculus (2834 posts) -

The hype will bite back. All talk, no walk. Last video they've shown was terrible.

I'm actually surprised I read a well written article from Kotaku.

That said, drawing comparisons to titanfall is kind of eh, Idk. I can't agree there.

It looks gorgeous for sure tho, love the art.

Gearbox admitted it ripped off Diablo.

What did you expect? It's being developed by the same folks who developed Halo, which was a crap series.

Shooter that wants to be MMO is too vague and not necessarily the sole definition of the game. In fact it looks more and more like a drop in- drop out adventure game set in an FPS environment. It *looks* to be perfectly playable on your own if you so wish (and offline too, probably). That's quite a distance from an MMO wannabe.

Does it have to redefine anything? Uncharted didn't redefine anything and is awesome. TLOU didn't redefine anything and is awesome. Titanfall didn't redefine anything and is awesome(they merely mixed a lot of done before FPS elements into a single package. Kinda like UC in that regard). Innovation =/= Greatness. Execution = Greatness. For example the fact that you can play with 2 buddies, in any mode of the game, anytime you want could make it a fantastic experience. OR it could break it beyond repair if the AI doesn't adjust correctly.

We won't know any of this until we actually play it. Titanfall looked like sh!t to most until they played it. That's when most people changed their mind about it.

-------------------

Honestly I don't really care if she is right or wrong (I have a code for the Beta, I'll concur or disagree when I play it). It's the fact that it's an opinion article from Kotaku. Keyword here: opinion. It's like asking the most hysterical, impressionable and unstable person you know for an opinion. It'll rarely be accurate, or in this case, anything more than a bait click.

The fact that she was comparing it to Borderlands, CoD, Diablo (!), f*cking Fallout (!!!) tells us this article is merely for clicks and views. Nothing else, nothing more.

Can Destiny be played solo?

#27 Edited by ghostwarrior786 (4337 posts) -

i watched 7min of it and i got bored.

Can Destiny be played solo?

yes, but its online only. must be connected to internet at all times

#28 Posted by magicalclick (22562 posts) -

I haven't watch the video. But for open world MMO FPS, I fear it will become a grind fest like Planetside 2. It is just no fun to get owned by high level character over and over and over.

exactly.... what's sad is the "Hive Mind Effect" from the simpletons in this post who are now agreeing with Kotaku, when they never even played the damn game!!! WTF? Why do the fools here always pass judgement before something is out?

Probably call of duty kids who just want to frag each other. This game looks to add some rpg elements and for me I am all over that. Will actually make the shooter worthwhile instead of just running and shooting each other.

#31 Posted by noodlevixen (479 posts) -

@lawlessx: lol so what's the truth? I just want to know if I can complete the game alone.

yeah you can play the game solo..i was referring to the second point he made.

Just like I said 2 days ago just looking at the screens. Game doesn't look good at all.

I wasn't aware there was hype around this game to begin with? I always thought it looked meh.

#39 Posted by pelvist (4720 posts) -

Im sure millions of people will buy it after the expensive marketing it will surely get and the websites have done hyping it up to be the best game since the last one they got paid to hyped up.

#41 Posted by melonfarmerz (1149 posts) -

Honestly, I never got this game. I watched a few trailers but, other than being pretty and having really cool weapons, there isn't anything that's different from other shooters.

#42 Posted by Heil68 (43996 posts) -

I'm still pretty excited about this game. Hopefully a awesome CE edition is available.

Patricia Hernandez... lol I would take anything she says as a grain of salt.

#44 Edited by santoron (7717 posts) -

Srsly, wtf? If I wanted to read Kotaku, I'd go there.

Maybe destiny is dull, but I'm not gonna take Kotaku's word on it.

#45 Posted by TheFadeForever (1732 posts) -

If its anything like borderland than I'll pass

#46 Posted by gago-gago (9448 posts) -

It's the Sony shooter curse. Since it seems like they made the PS4 the lead platform it becomes generic. I'll give it a chance though. It looks pretty chill but I'm hoping for big scale battles and battles against big bosses. Seeing these previews just gets me excited for the next Halo instead.

#47 Posted by foxhound_fox (88060 posts) -

Kotaku is usually always out to lunch with almost everything.
