Age of Mythology hits Steam in May with Steamworks, Twitch, better graphics

Microsoft has announced that it’s bringing real-time strategy game Age of Mythology: Extended Edition to Steam in May 2014. Like last year’s Age of Empires II HD, it includes the game's expansion, improves the presentation, and adds a bunch bells and whistles like Steamworks and Twitch integration.

I hope MS will come finally around and start releasing old-school RTS on PC again. They must see that there is a lot of demand for them right now. Everyone is for resurrection of Ensemble Studios !

Additional Info:

Age of Mythology + The Titans Expansion

Pre-Purchase on Steam Early April

Improved Water and Lighting

Full Steamworks Integration

Twitch TV Integration

Enhanced Observer Mode

Support for Win 7/8 and HD Monitors

Don't know if I'd necessarily consider this "huge" news but cool nonetheless. I'll probably pick it up

Let us hope that it is unlike the HD version of Age of Empires II.

Minor graphical upgrades and didn't fix basic issues with the old game. The AI is still easily exploited which is a main one. They raised the population limited but didn't add unit grouping or raise the number of units you can select at once so it's a nightmare even moving armies.

It was literally the game we got decades ago with steam integration.

@jhonMalcovich:

Was just about to make a thread about this. There is also a trailer out: http://www.gamespot.com/videos/age-of-mythology-extended-edition-trailer/2300-6418101/

And some details:

  1. Age of Mythology + The Titans Expansion
  2. Pre-Purchase on Steam Early April
  3. Improved Water and Lighting
  4. Full Steamworks Integration
  5. Twitch TV Integration
  6. Enhanced Observer Mode
  7. Support for Win 7/8 and HD Monitors

Could you update the op ? :)

@charizard1605:

Yeah, I'll most likely get this day one or pre-order it as well. I was thinking the other day about what they could improve. I didn't expect them to rework all the textures or anything but I thought it would be nice if it got a new lighting system and it did :D

I also hope that the popularity of AOE II HD and AOM: EE is a clear sign to MS that people want more of those games. They can keep focusing on Xbox all they want, I just want AOE IV or AOM II.

Why does everyone play random map on AOE2 HD and not DM? Random map games tend to be marathons while during the Zone days Death Match and custom scenario was all the rage.

Are you implying SW doesn't collectively judge factions based on their hardcore fanboys? :O Because that's what happens to cows, lems and sheep! Not sure why it would be different for hermits :P

True, it happens for a lot of factions.

But I think you and I know that there are good and bad cows, lemmings, hermits and sheep out there :)

Ok Im confused. Why is this in system wars instead of the PC section? Or is system wars officially now called announcement wars?

Still fucking hilarious that PC snobs always make fun when a console gets on HD port of an old game but cant stop jerking off when the PC gets one. You guys make me embarrassed to play games on a PC.

These games just aren't as good as some of the newer RTS that's out there. It would be nice if Microsoft would start making RTS games again, though. I really would just like an interface that makes it easy to group and move units in formation.

The first 3D RTS Ensemble created and it looked amazing for its time. It had day and night levels that hadn't been done before in RTS as far as I know.

Sure, the game is over a decade old now, so you can't really expect it to look better than current RTS.

I still think that to this day it's one of the most polished RTS games ever made, presentation wise. So slick 'n easy to get into and control everything, and the game just flows so well, the quality of the sound, the movement speed of the units, everything. There are no blemishes i can think of that came with age.

AoE III seemed more cluttered, so to speak. I do prefer AoE III over II tho, unlike the rest of Earth. Enjoyed its more personal campaign much more.

When I first played AOM, it blew my mind. Literally. A colossus picking up a soldier and throwing it away, a meteor shower destroying someones town. I had never seen something like that in a game.

I was wrong to say that AOM did day and night cycles because Emperor: battle for dune (would loooooove an HD remake for that) came before it. And it also had some pretty amazing graphics and effects.

AoE and AoM are my favourite games I think, because they are set in the most interesting setting to me: ancient Greece, Egypt, etc... I like it more than the medieval age or colonial age.

Though I didn't like it that much at first, I've grown very fond of AOE III and I prefer it over AOE II like you. It also had some pretty mind blowing stuff to me. Like cannons blowing buildings to shred, or having a realistic impact on battalions of troops.
