Personally, I can ONLY afford to PC game.
The only thing most people seem to look at is the entry cost.
$400 for a PS4, $500 for an Xbox One, and (in my own case) $650 for my PC.
$150-$250 difference in price, so yes there is more up front. I'm aware of that.
But between actually having a decent library of f2p games, sales, humble bundle, GOG.com (backlog of great games for cheap prices), no fee for online, cheap accessories, and not having to pay $15 for DLC to expand my games, it is overall cheaper for me to game on PC.
I don't foresee there ever being a time when it's cheaper to game on consoles while getting the same benefits as PC gaming. I mean I could rent every game, I guess, but that's not really something I care to do.
