How is that Sony is winning the marketing war so easily?

Sony locking up all these third party exclusivity deals and releasing special edition PS4s every 3 months. Just Call of Duty Black Ops 3 and Starwars Battlefront alone are huge wins for Sony. Meanwhile, I really don't see any huge megatons from MS, or anything that people actually care about. What gives, SW? It seems like the other systems don't really bother.

Sony took a page from Microsoft's advertising book and marketed heavily to the dude bros, and they took advantage of the huge misstep Microsoft made before launch.

Sony gives you everything out of the box, no need for ancient AA batteries, you especially don't have to log online to access 100% of the console's power. Keep life simple, and keep it 100 no theoretical bullsh*t. Simply buy your superior multiplat game of choice, set it and forget it.

Because of the name Sony. People eat that shit up from names of brands alone.

Sony learned some great lessons from their mistakes with the PS3.

On the flip side, Microsoft dropped the ball BIG time and Nintendo is just apathetic.

Let's be honest, they don't really have to do much in terms of marketing to win. Microsoft shot itself in the foot early on and Nintendo is Nintendo... a relic.

They came to market with a solid product lacking the visible shortcomings of the competition. They kept games rolling in by actively engaging and supporting 3rd party publishers and indies to build up a considerably larger library than their main competition less than two years in. And they've added features to the console to increase its value proposition, most notably SharePlay which is also a differentiator for it on the market.

Lying and pretending third party multiplats are exclusive

That's pretty funny considering.

Because MS didn't want to spend money on that anymore....although it is a strategy that seems to work. Sony should thank MS for the heads up.

Because securing deals like those are easier when your console is the best selling compared to competitors.

Being the leader is the reason, Spencer will try to play it up as something different and so will the lems but sales matter and Sony has those, expect more deals like this and more exclusive games from PS4.

Cause Sony is good at making promises and getting fans to believe them. They also have solid gimmicks. No matter how many times fans are hurt by promises and white lies, they always seem to want more.

They didn't do anything. Microsoft and Nintendo made complete fool of themselves.

2nd place isn't winning.

Because Sony simply made the best console, for a reasonable price, with the most power, no shitty expensive gimmicks like tablet/Kinect, no hostile policies like Nintendo's region lock/broken account system or Microsofts proposed always online and (of course, and most importantly) the biggest library of good games, including superior multiplats.

The marketing guys at Sony have a really easy job. They don't need to lie, spin or invent. Just to tell the true facts about the PS4.

Sony is winning because now its like what console does everyone have or my friends have ... a lot of people have the ps4 ... I do ... but Xbox One isn't selling terrible and isn't losing because there is no 3rd console ... the gaming market can support 2 consoles no problem

Microsoft is currently a bigger brand name than Sony. And yet X1 is losing to PS4.

@Jag85: True, but the name Sony to a lot of people means only the "gaming" side of things, at least where I live that is how it goes.

If "winning" means "beating the other peasant-boxes in sales" then the reasons are as such:

-The other 2 competitors were miserable failures due to their shitty gimmicks, making PS4 the default choice among console peasants.

-They marketed the thing so fucking hard that the only way Sony could have advertised it further would have been to come to your doorstep like a girlscout with cookies.

-They made more and bigger exclusive promises that they are only just now bumping out within the next year or two, finally for chrissakes. But if the PS4's exclusive track record is anything to go by then the upcoming exclusives will fail to live up.

-No peasants realize a PC costs less than $2000

I think that just about covers everything.

Isn't that what happened to xbox1, that's the most irony I can see coming from any xb1 owner (hidden power, kenect an intergal part of every game, kenect always on can't be turned off, cloud graphics ect) xbox fans owe every good thing that MS has done to xbox1 to 180 their draconian anti-consumer rights DRM vision to Sony. Its stupid for any xbox fan to try to talk aobut lies and broken promises when supporting MS and xb1 this gen, real stupid; it's even worse when they try to take shots at sony.

MS and Nintendo shot themselves, it was easy for Sony to walk over their bleeding corpses. It's easy to get 3rd party deals when you are far ahead of your competition in sales and mindshare.

Xbox One payed the price, their fans refused to accept their promises. But yes, Xbox One does it also, they use tech to hype games up and allow companies to do the same. How many times have companies showed off games only to find out on release day that the game has been graphically downgraded.

How many times do they promise solid game servers for playing online and yet even though we pay money we still suffer lag. How many broken games do they allow to be released on these machines. Fans dont care, they just want to be promised it wont happen again. And then again, it happens.

It's easier to market a console that is actually good. That's why.

I can hear the Indie crys already. Please Sony, let us be heard. Too many games on PC, give us a chance. Well even release on the Vita, well do anything.

Just like Microsoft did last gen. It works pretty great.

By building a superior system, where game fans want to play. Everything else fell into place.

E3 2013. The Microsft bomb. The pretty much solidified anybody who was thinking about getting a next gen console to at least start off with a PS4, if not ignore the Xbox altogether. I admit, I only changed my mind into getting the Xbox One at launch just before release, after MS announced their DRM reversal. Even though the system is amazing and I am glad I got it first... that still left a bad taste in everyone's mouth. That image went a long way and people today are still talking crap. It's all overly outdated memes at this point, if you ask me. People need to get over shit. But it has had a butterfly effect still being felt.

Beat me to it. But mostly it has to do with Microsoft and Nintendo dropping the ball, and Sony capitalizing on their mismanagement to maneuver themselves into a more favourable position.

All those broken promises of games running at 1080p, Sony's sudden costumer-screwing decision to make you pay monthly for a service worse than their previous free version and the deceitfully announced "stealth PS4 exclusives" that are actually PC/PS4 multiplat.

But I'm sure you'll defend Sony like always. I hope Microsoft and Sony milk you corporate shills for all the spare change you dedicate towards gaming. Maybe one day you'll wise up. :^)

Learned from last gen and went PC architecture and talked to developers on what they wanted then they, knocked MS the **** out with DRM and disk sharing, then coupled it with the by gamers for gamers mantra, while practicing the Live, Learn and Love philosophy,

You can't blame the President for everything

A big reason why is because they took advantage of xbox's stupidity early on.

Microsoft is trying -

• Evolve
• The Witcher III
• Madden
• Fifa
• Rainbow Six Siege
• Fallout 4
• Rise of the Tomb Raider

But it's also a Halo year , so that means a massive advertising campaign for that game. There's only so much money to go around , and they have major competition from market leader Sony that has bags of cash to offer 3rd parties.
