I have a 32'' and I can play most games comfortably 5 feet away but recently I tried out Crysis 2 and I got the feeling it wasn't created with a console setup at all because I had to sit abnormally close to my tv, like bit less than 3 feet to be comfortable with aiming. I also realized having 37 or 40 inch display wouldn't have helped that much. It would have to be 50 or 60 inch display to sit comfortably on an armchair. I've been always aware that I have to sit closer while playing FPSes but now I have different furniture setup and a lot more space, previously I've been sitting closer to TV anyway. So - do you think Crysis 2 wasn't made with typical console - armchair / sofa - setup in mind? How close do you have to sit while playing an FPS game? And how closer is it compared to a 3rd person action game which doesn't require pixel prefect aiming precision?

Pretty much regardless of the type of game, or the size of the screen, I sit between 1-3 feet away.

That's how I've been doing it since I was I was a baby (I was a pro gamer back then as well)

I sit like 3 feet away from my 32" TV. I have bad eyesight but the main problem I have with games is that the letters are too tiny! Why do devs make them so tiny anyway? And then when you sit closer you see those awful jaggies even more. It's a nightmare... ;(

I remember playing Goldeneye 64 from a good 6-8 foot, 4 player split screen on a 16" odd TV. :D Good times.

I generally play my FPS games on PC so about 2' from a 27" monitor. Can't say I have any trouble playing a console one 8' from my 47" TV though personally.

I sit as close as I can while still being far enough away to see all the HUD elements without needing to shift my eyes. So maybe 6 feet away from my 55" but more often than not I play FPS games on my 23" computer monitor at my computer desk. When it comes to being able to notice small details there is just no substitute for being right up against a small screen.

To play at my best need to sit 4-5 feet away but lot of times end up sitting around 8-9 feet away because it's more comfortable.

For campaigns I sit about 7 or 8 feet from my 42 inch Plasma, with a 27 inch monitor off to the other side of my room in dual display mode. For online MP which I don't play nearly as much anymore, save for Team Fortress 2, I actually prefer my 17' laptop which is right next to my bed. Other games like NBA 2K14 I like to sit on my recliner next to my 27' monitor about 1 or 2 feet away....I have a weird setup especially since I don't have a traditional desk.

About 8 feet away. I only sit that close if I need to work on something on the pc. I have not had to sit that close to the screen since I was a kid.

My consoles are hooked up to a 70" Sharp. My couch is about 8 ft away. And for PC gaming I have a 27" 2560x1440 monitor and sit about 2 feet away from that.

Pretty close. My main TV is at the foot of my bed, and I tend to lay around 3-4 ft away from a 40-inch. Largely because my PC is attached to it.

I have to sit within a few feet away even if it's a fairly large screen if I want to play well. I can't see the finer details when I am sitting further away.

People that tell me they can play well from a fair distance away can't be taken seriously. I've yet to see anyone play a game seriously unless they're within a few feet of the screen. I'm sure this whole topic centres around the whole resolution to viewing distance argument so I'll add this. If you are playing a game and can see fairly small details like say an enemy soldier that is 50 metres away from you, you will be able to tell the difference in resolution. If it's too low, you won't be able to make out finer details. So you might not be able to see if it is an enemy soldier or if it's something else.

I never thought about it. I figure 6-9 feet away from my 46" HDTV. I die a lot, but don't care. Nobody is paying me to be good at this stuff. I play for fun.

Well when you play hockey, practice karate, are a qualified expert on real weapons, gaming is just for fun. I don't need to compete with people in that safe, faceless environment. I look into my opponents eyes when I compete.

In my den, I recline back on the chair which means my eyes are at least 4 ft from the (24" monitor). Most games don't require me to be up close except maybe sniping in Crysis/Warhead because of the constant bobbing.

It parallels my driving behavior. Some people need to be close to the dash while I usually have the seat all the way back.

@VanDammFan: Ok, lets have our pissing contest. I have played high school football, baseball, amateur boxing, and a little thing called the war on terrorism. I don't get competitive over video games, you do. I prefer competition that is person to person, not where everyone can be hidden and psychological intimidation cant play apart. Do play games online? Yes. Am I all about the MP so I can be the best? Fvck no, I got shit to do.

never said i want to have a "pissing contest"..youmadbro?.lol...I never played on organized teams.Ive always played with friends, family OR at school during PE or class skirmishes etc..im also 42 years old, juggle wife, kids, career, and enjoy doing nothing these days. I quit workingout middle of 2010,and being active not long after. Dealing with depression, anxiety, and everyday life issues. BUT when I was playing games online I was top on Medal of Honor (pc) on OGL boards for a while.AND really about as good as you can get at COD 2 as well..Those are the 2 main online games I played..other than that my multiplayer has been splitscreen,or system link..I dont play games really now as im not mentally into anything right now..

@VanDammFan: well I sensed wrong, and apologize. "The payment comes in knowing you're the best" doesn't work for me in gaming. Having a fun time does, and not having the highest k/d ratio doesn't factor into it. Then I get the "u mad bro" and you start talking about depression and anxiety. U sad bro, is what I want to leave off with, but I can't. Because I have issues, lost people close to me, deal with ptsd, so I feel for you. Good luck.
