Do you really think the PS3 or 360 is worth it if you don't have a HDTV? Are the graphics a lot worse or are they still great? Cos I really don't see the point in spending 600 (aus) or 1000 (aus) for a little graphic update with barely nothing else new.

They look a lot crisper and the colors are more vibrant. I noticed a difference in Gears of War but they still look fantastic on a SDTV.

Still a big leap from last gen on a SDTV. While looking better on a HDTV it's not something you have to have to enjoy the systems.

The games and what can be done with the games is new. People who think more power=nothing but better graphics are idiots.

The games will still look great, but the difference with an HDTV is even bigger.

I'm gaming on my 360 on just a crappy old SDTV and loving it. a HDTV would be nice, but not required. Eventually I'll get one I guess. But I'm still really having fun with my 360 on my current TV.

My friend plays his 360 on a SDTV and it still looks great, the extra resolution isn't really that noticeable if you're far enough away from the TV. Biggest differences are that in HDTV you don't see the scanlines like in 480i SDTV, and no widescreen, which I now love for gaming.

Anyone who says 360/PS3 games don't look any better than last generation without an HDTV don't know what they are talking about.

You really should get an HDTV. I've never played my 360 on one and its a shame. I'm buying one later this month though. Without it its difficult to appreciate the visuals.

It seems that everyone in here disagrees with you on that one.

Its alot better. I first played gears off a HDTV, than going to an SDTV was a BIG difference. It still looked good, but no where near as good as it did on a HD TV. Same goes with games on ps3, they are way better on HD TV

Ummmm... i wouldn't say that it is necessary but (i can only speak for the 360) it does bring a whole new demension to the game, but if you dont have one it is still a good purchase

It doesn't look bad if you don't know what your missing.

Everyone here is too busy trying to convince themselves that it is just a very very minor difference.

PS3 and Xbox 360 look $^&%^$@%!#$^ AMAZING on a 720p HDTV.;)

640x480 vs 1280x720

It's widescreen and crisp as hell.

Everytime I have to bring my PS3 or 360 to a friends house and they have a SDTV

It just looks Butchered.:(

You won't be wowed as much as you would if you had an HDTV, I won't lie to you. This is because a lot of the power has gone to the details and textures, which you won't appreciate as well on an SDTV.

However, taking that into account, you will still notice a big improvement over last gen, and the games will still look gorgeous (well, the pretty ones, anyway). I got my HDTV 7 months after my 360, and those were still 7 months of great next-gen gaming.

Then again, once you have the power of a 360 or Ps3 in your living room... it might just push you over the edge to get an HDTV (I was heavily tempted to purchase one myself, until a bit of luck and an improbable 6-9 offsuit got me my current one :D)

PS3 = Not so much. Half of the console's price comes from HD only sources.

360 = I would say it's worth it. But I'd recommend you get HD in the future.

Depends on the game. I dont own any of them, but i have played them at a friends on SDTV's. Resistance looks great still, So does GEOW.

Some games, ive heard, look bad like Rainbow six vegas.

It looks really good, whatever.

Yeah, it looks a lot better o an hdtv, but just look at assassin's creed's high-powered crowd physics. That could only be done on powerful hardware, like the xbox, ps3 and pc.

I just don't see the point in spending 600 dollars for a 360, when I can't get the most out of the good graphics. sure it has good games, but I'm busy enough with my the wii.
