Hermits, care to explain what makes Metro so special?

This series has been praised left and right by hermits (and no, not only Sniper) and I cant figure out why. I havent played 2033 but I'm halfway through Last Light and the game is average at best. I think only the setting (wich has been done better before) is somewhat interesting. Everything else is just plain... ugh

The A.I. is probably the worst I have ever seen in an FPS EVER! Enemies (mainly the mutants) get stuck often, human enemies cant see you when you're right in front of them, they take time to react when you're discovered, etc, etc.

Graphics are nice but the environments are so plain boring to look at that it doesnt matter really. Yes, I know the game is supposed to look ugly and decrepit, after all its a post-apocalyptic setting but thats no excuse. Rage for ex had nice environments and did the all "post-apocalyptic Mad Max inspired" setting much much better imo. Killzone 1-3 were also supposed to look like a warzone but that didnt stop everyone from bashing it and calling it "greyzone" or w/e.

It baffles me how some call it an "hardcore" FPS (nod at Sniper) when its hardly a good game. Hermits often cry and cry about "blah blah consolized games blah blah" and praises this shit? How?

I have both games and haven't gotten into either of them. Everyone pretty much likes them the graphics, I think the gameplay sucks too. I agree with you about the graphics not being as great as everyone makes them out to be. I play on a high end PC and the outdoor environments are the only really good looking ones and they are few and far between.

I bought it for $40 bucks. Beat it and took it back. No desire to play it again.

I too thought it was average at best. The A.I. are terrible.

lol Yea, I dont get it either. They're good games but rough around the edges. Personally I liked the first way better than Last Light.

I always felt the series is a little generic, i've got Last Light through PS+ and haven't brought myself to touch it since i found the last one pretty meh. I'm too busy with Grid 2 atm and have Spec Ops, 3 Splinter Cell games, Tomb Raider and Bioshock Infinite that are all way ahead of it in my backlog.

Good looking games but seem fairly run of the mill in every other area, i'm not sure why it gets the attention it does.

Before this game was released most hyping it were hermits. It must have been because of the graphics it seems. Just another reason for hermits to brag about PC power and bash consoles over it most probably. A shame really, cause graphics its probably the only thing it has going for it

because when you looked at the sun through a tree rays of light shown through. this was unheard of at the time but pc fanboys will still use those gifs today as if they are impressive.

OR i can stay, this is a free forum, if you played it and didn't like it move on, what someone says won't change your mind.

Well the only real good thing it has going for it is graphics. Everything turned up on 1440p looks absolutely insane. English voice acting was meh, and the story wasn't the best, but it played half decent and it looked gorgeous while you did it.

Came in expecting a thread about the Metro menu in Windows 8.

Played the first one on 360 and saw that this was not a game meant for consoles.

But it wasn't bad. Just really confusing as someone who didn't play 2033.

I played half of LL and quit because it was boring and I didn't like the Russian themed atmosphere.

the fact that the consoles new gen is here and the consoles are weak sauce, producing even bigger jelly against pc gamers, i mean at least 360 and ps3 were on par with pcs when released, new consoles are not even on par with medium pc hardware.

Game needs more Selena Gomez and multiplayer with perks.

They're great games in their own right. Have some different systems to freshen up the genre. But for those of you who don't know the troubled history of 4A they work in Kiev, Ukraine.

I mean imagine it now. But mostly the word coming out of the studio was it was a shit hole. And they made one of the better games of last year.

I like Last Light a lot more then 2033. It's got a better story, more interesting set pieces and your always moving to new locations.

I played the game maxed out and it's a very visually pleasing game. It had a rocky start with stuttering and all that... But they made it better.

Some people don't like horror games. But hey you can't please everyone.

They're good games with a great atmosphere/setting and some interesting mechanics but it's essentially an on rails cinematic shooter with set pieces interspersed with some "exploration."

Games look okay for the atmosphere. I'd like to play them some day.

What I played was alright; had to stop when I got busy with other things and then I jumped to other games. I certainly need to finish it someday.

I think because everyone has different tastes. I have no doubt there are games you like that others think suck. I'd bet my life on it. That's what subjective forms of entertainment are like.

not particularly fun games IMO. top notch tech let down by lousy art. they are a very small team with very low budgets and very bad working conditions. i think they could produce something graphically amazing with good artists.

This is another game I feel like I cannot judge until I can max it out at 60. I have a i7 3770K @ 4.5 and a gtx 690 and cannot find enough things to turn down while at 1440p. I think the last time I played I turned it down to 1080p. On my next machine I think I will follow Patrick from Giantbombs advice and leave the voice at Russian and turn on subtitles. The story seems cool but I currently cannot get past my machines limitations. I will be building a god rig this fall though. And this will be one of the first games I play.

It's really just a mediocre series.

Hahaha, I love it. You Americans really hate Russians don't you? I was watching that show on National Geographic the other day called "Dooms Day Preppers" and it was some like ex-military dudes saying they're preparing for when Russia invades America, it was hilarious they built like a special fort and trained religiously everyday Anyways say what you will about Russians......

I really liked them both, though the first game had horrible shooting mechanics sometimes and bad hit detection with the mutant creatures. The second game did a better job in this department, and a better story, nice settings, but I didn't find it nearly as immersive. I thought the surface visits were more exciting in 2033 than Last Light, I think because 2033 had this horrible mechanic of randomizing air filters being obtainable at random locations, making trips into the surface or contaminated areas feel uneasy. This flaw seems to work in favor of making the game more exciting. In Last Light the air filters are plentiful where managing air doesn't feel nearly as important or exciting. They're not perfect games by a longshot but their a fresh and unique experience. I especially like the number of language audio support each game allows for.

Is it really that important that you play at 1440?

I mean FFS it looks pretty damn good at 1080
