Software being games.

Hardware being The Console, and Controller/ Wii Controller.

There is no picking on or the other.

You need hardware to have software for it.

Though you can have hardware without software.

But still, hardware makes a big part so does software.

Software obviously. Without it, you can have the best, most effecient, user friendly, most innovative hardware ever made, and it will still be absoluetely useless.

I think the answer is clearly software. Games like Chrono Trigger and Marathon are perfect examples. They're still completely playable today.
