Gunslinger Stratos 2 Playable At GDC 2014

Gunslinger Stratos 2 Playable At GDC 2014

Arcade Hero, February 17, 2014

Last year some surprising news came along that the Japanese and arcade exclusive title Gunslinger Stratos by Square Enix was going to make its first appearance in the United States at the 2013 Game Developers Conference. It was brought over to the West not by any manufacturer or distributor, but by Silicon Studios as a great way to show off their middleware called Yebis. This middleware can be used for producing a number of graphical effects in game software across a number of hardware platforms.

The choice to use GS as a showcase seemed to have paid off as it has just been announced that the upcoming Gunslinger Stratos 2, which uses Silicon Studios Yebis 2 middleware, is going to make an appearance at the 2014 Game Developers Conference (GDC 2014), which happens next month on March 17th-21st in San Fransisco, CA USA.

Gunslinger Stratos 2 will be released this Thursday on Feb. 20th in Japan. Aside from this announcement, there hasn’t been any other indications that the game, will be getting more love out West. Here’s the latest trailer for it, which shows a little bit of the game in action although most of it is CG stuff in regards to the new characters.

It sort of reminds me of Gunvalkyrie... but just a whole lot stupider.

wow..how very japanese.

Also I'm surprised a shit load of FF cameos weren't in there, and japan arcades just aren't worth it a dollar a pop just to play, also of note if it really has a transformable gun thing its gonna be hell on repairs, maybe square enix should concentrate on kh3, final fantasy...etc instead of making stupid arcade machines.

It's a lightgun-controlled third-person shooter. You aim with two lightguns, which also have analog sticks on them for movement.

But yeah, trailer is a bit otaku/weaboo-ish. They should have just focused on the gameplay. Who goes to the arcades to see CGI cutscenes?

Anyway, crazy anime shenanigans aside, the gameplay looks like it has a lot in common with futuristic shooters like Vanquish and Titanfall.

There was a part 1 that came out two years ago in 2012:

If only the gameplay looked as remotely fun as the CGI.

Can't say how good the gameplay is, but from what I've heard, the first Gunslinger Stratos is currently the most popular arcade video game in Japan, so the gameplay must be pretty good.

Game looks so over the top fun wouldint mind playing. Though I think the gun controllers probably add to the fun.

The gun controllers seem pretty unique, aiming & shooting two guns at the same time, while moving with an analog stick. I wonder how such a control scheme would work out on a console or PC?
