Metal Gear is no longer relevant they said...

It will get a 2 out of 10 they said...

Haha Metal Gear can release a demo for a game and still score higher than most games. Phantom Pain is going to be incredible.

The way the gameplay is being described makes me even more excited for what bat shit idea Kojima came up with for a more open environment.

I'll wait for the full game not getting this demo :)

now if it was $5 i wouldnt have minded it

Good score. But I won't buy it, I'll just rent through Gamefly. Also funny how they misused the word, haha.

Hype met.

Better luck next time, eh lems? Maybe in a year the Xbone might be worth putting the effort in to making a decent version.

I'll just respot what I posted in the other thread since I'm about as original as a Call of Duty game post COD4.

Just finished the Ground Zeroes mission on normal in about 97 minutes. I wouldn't recommend it unless you're a big Metal Gear fan, but it plays fantastically and I can't wait to see the open world aspects handled on a much bigger scale with The Phantom Pain. Now to tackle it on hard and then dive into the side stuff. :D

Oh, and it's absolutely gorgeous and runs as smooth as butter.

Except for the water surrounding the island, that looks like a giant pool of spermicidal lube.

You played one of the next gen versions?

Also how the fuck did you get the game so fast? it comes out tomorrow.

The changes in the game mechanics when it comes to being spotted and spotting enemies seems to be a change for the better.

#12 Posted by Xaero_Gravity (8696 posts) -

@jg4xchamp:

Played the PS4 version and went the digital route.

#13 Posted by WilliamRLBaker (28340 posts) -

lol gamespot oh dying.

#14 Posted by StrongDeadlift (5141 posts) -

Just bought the PS4 version digitally. Downloading nao.

I really love how easy it is to go from playing a CoD match, to hopping over to the store in a second, and then back where I left off, while the game downloads in the background. And knowing that I can turn the system off at any time, and it'll be ready for me in the morning.

Hmm. I guess I'm going to wait till later in the year when I actually have a PS4 or a One.

Its nice that there are reviewers who at least attempt to look past its glaring length problem. For us its no surprise so just mention it and move on. No need to get caught up in that for a review.

#17 Posted by 93BlackHawk93 (5218 posts) -

The MGS label is why it got that score.

#18 Edited by seanmcloughlin (38210 posts) -

Reviews seem positive so far but gamers still seem unconvinced from what I've been reading. Gonna get the PS4 version when it comes out here

#19 Posted by Xaero_Gravity (8696 posts) -

@93BlackHawk93:

Yeah clearly. It's not like the people that have played it think that gameplay wise it's the best the series has ever been.

I'm sorry, but this is just a glorified paid demo.

#21 Posted by ConanTheStoner (4538 posts) -

I'm having a hell of a good time with it right now. The controls are fucking phenomenal for an MGS game. All the little details you would expect are there and then some. Phantom Pain is going to shit all over MGS4... not that that's an accomplishment, but still.

If it was a $5 download, I'd probably check it out. I already cancelled my preorder. I'll wait for Infamous SS & Kinect Sports Rivals next.

@93BlackHawk93:

If you're just going to play the main mission, absolutely. But contrary to what you may believe, it has some pretty good replay value. I wouldn't pay more than $30 though.

I've been having fun just dicking around for a couple of hours now. Haven't even attempted a mission yet.

#25 Posted by Xaero_Gravity (8696 posts) -

@ConanTheStoner:

Can you imagine if they had included a small sampling of MGO? Hnnnnnngggg.

#26 Edited by ConanTheStoner (4538 posts) -

One thing I found humorous so far though.

So of course, vehicle control is new to MGS. So I was driving a big ass truck and an enemy got suspicious. He said he was going to check it out, so I backed up about 30 feet. He looked in the bush that I was parked on a few seconds earlier and was like "all clear!"

I love stupid MGS guards.

#27 Posted by getyeryayasout (7078 posts) -

More game play driven than story driven. Sounds like there's a lot of meat on the bone if you're willing to gnaw on it. Chomp chomp chomp!

Holy crap. Even if it was just TDM on Camp Omega and nothing else, I'd probably be hooked for a while.

#29 Edited by ConanTheStoner (4538 posts) -

Ok, time to catch a buzz and get back to it!

Edit: Ok my experience just got a lot better (not because of the buzz, shut up!)

Some good options to change imo.

Under control settings, change auto aim correction to off cause it can be annoying. Turn on keep aim viewpoint. This way you don't have to go through an extra motion every time you want to shoot in first person... makes it feel more like MGS anyways.

Under display settings you can turn off all the excessive hud stuff and get rid of crutches like enemy presence, damage direction, action icons, etc..

Delayed in Australia, but I'm still getting it once released. Like I've said before I have no idea what the Metal Gear story is about, the last game I played was MGS4 on my PS3 but the game still has appeal to me. I don't know what it is, but I can still enjoy the game. I think I should wikepedia the story before Phantom Pain.

Definitely catch up on as much as you can. Check Youtube and you can usually find each games story condensed (cutscenes + pertinent info). I did that the other day to refresh on Portable Ops. Much more enjoyable than reading a Wiki.

That said, you won't really need story to enjoy this. The gameplay is great! The sandbox element is the real deal, I keep finding myself in one bad ass situation after the next lol

it's just a prologue to the actual game. it would've been quite stupid to expect a whole lot from it.

That's a bit surprising, but still nice to see that essentially a demo is that good. Just means Phantom Pain is going to be that awesome. At least we all hope.

It's because there good games??? if they weren't good games no one would buy them???? just because your not into these game types doesn't mean it ain't brilliant, rockstar always produce great games, Halo is and will be a pretty good first person shooter no matter how you feel about the franchise, and Metal Gear Solid is an amazing franchise, but it is for the minority and not the majority. it got the score because it's good for what it is and thats what it should be judged on.I mean look at Assassin's Creed I feel like that is the most over rated over scored pile of p*** I've ever had the awful time of playing through and that scores over 8 every time, and yet the combat and stealth is non existent in that game, works for everything if you don't like it

Gawwwwwwwwwwwwd, this extra week delay is going to kill me. Seriously thinking of getting it off US PSN,

Scooping up this gem of a game today after work! Salty butthurt Lems will be here not playing Titanfall!

Yeah I don't know about all that. Your comment kind of adds to what they're saying: that all big named games get free passes in general, and it's true.

It's like letting owners of a beef company work for the FDA, or a burger king employee run the food inspection where he works. Gamespot is just part of the games industry, ensuring the wheels are all greased up and moving.

I mean, do you really think Far Cry 2 and Assassin's Creed III were really 8.5 games? Was Halo 4 really deserving of a 9.0?

Love the butthurt GZ is causing. I will buy it happily, as I have no qualms with spending the money.
