I kid ._.

But the story:

Polyphony Digital has announced theyll be showing off a special version of Gran Turismo at Sonys Dramatic 4K Experience in Japan.

The game will be running at 4K resolution, the new video standard which touts four times the 1920×1080 resolution of current HDTVs, and is powered by four PlayStation 3 consoles.

Sony and other electronics manufacturers are hoping the future video standard will drive new purchases from consumers, and the PlayStation 4 itself is widely expected to support the high resolution.

Astute Gran Turismo observers will recall this actually isnt the first time Polyphony Digital has shown this technical demo of their game running at 4K; in 2008, at the DownShift 2008 session celebrating the series ten-year anniversary, a copy of GT5 Prologue was shown at 4x HD resolution, while another was running at 240 frames per second.

The Dramatic 4K Experience is open to the public and can be found in the OPUS Communication Zone at the Sony Building in Tokyo throughout the month of October.

Thanks to all of you who sent this in!

I.. don't really care much about Gran Turismo at this point, but I'm all in for the sh1t and giggle this thread will eventually bring.

So what say you? PS4 launch title? BS? something in between to be released some time before we all die? Oh and it's called "Dramatic 4k Experience". Wtf:lol:

why use 4 PS3's when you can just use 1 low/mid-ranged PC?
#9 Posted by Desmonic (13393 posts) -
Likely quite awesome to see and experience, yet waaaaaayyyy to expensive for the average joe.

Sony before launch PS3: You can play with 2 tvs at full 1080p 60fps Gran Turismo. Now: You need 4 PS3s to get full HD experience in the next GT. Just joking fanboys

Has anyone here even seen true 4K resolution like I have?

This reminds me of how they showed off what GT4 would look like in 1080p back in an E3 demo. They did it for a good 15 minutes and it didn't impress anybody.

4 ps3s? I thought it was a super computer? Lol. I'm just playing. Everyone knows its shiit.

I've been looking around the net. I cant find any lead that connects four PS3's together so i can play at 4k resolution.;)

Are you expecting some kind of answer?
#21 Posted by ultimate-k (2348 posts) -

Its either upscaled to 4k, or extremly powerful hardware.

Is 4k going to be Sony's next BS pitch for next gen? This gen it was 1080p, 120FPS, and 4D. I wonder what they will promise next gen?

We'll have 4K, 480 FPS and 8D...

SDC all the way... until the actual PS4 release, when it'll barely manages to hit 1080p! :P

What's the point. No average consumer is going to get those results without the right $10,000+ TV. But it would be cool to see.

Wonder if we'll see Gran Turismo 6 before 2020?

So how many 360's would that take to run?

pretty cool I guess... :\

A low-mid range PC? yeah right. Even a single HIGH end card, right now in 2012, is going to start to choke on most games at native 4K. Although we probably aren't too far away, GTX 790 or at the very latest GTX 890 will probably be seriously doing that. But hardly "low-mid ranged".

I doubt PS4 will be doing 4K either, just 4K film playback. I dont' see it supporting native 4K games, because as of now in order to cool such a GPU you would need a huge tower, possibly with 2 or 3 GPU's, and plenty of fans if not water cooling.

So four PS3's means 2 GB of ram? Nothing special.

super600

None. MS doesn't do dumb sh!t like this. They have plenty of dumb Kinect sh!t to showcase.

#36 Posted by caseypayne69 (5388 posts) -
4k is easy for GT5 because it has PS2 level cars it calls standard cars.
#37 Posted by Richymisiak (2589 posts) -
ugh the title gave me a horrible flashback to SW a few years ago
#38 Posted by Riverwolf007 (23500 posts) -

yeah, cuz 4k resolution will make navigating that god awful u.i. and grinding forever to get to the good part of the game all better.

poor poor poly, still showing us how they understand nothing about designing a modern game and what a joke of a dev they have become.

#39 Posted by locopatho (20177 posts) -
Hahahaha if you're trying to brag about RESOLUTION in a CONSOLE GAME you are seriously wrong in the head :P
#40 Posted by OB-47 (10908 posts) -

Would be very keen to see.

But atleast make sure all the cars look current gen in the next GT. If GT is about the love of cars, you can't prioritise some cars visuals over others.

I've seen 8K at IBC. Its awesome but theres nothing broadcast in it. Hell NHK and BBC only just managed a trial broadcasting from Japan to England.

Well you will be waiting for ages to actually get some 4K content.

Lol! They could have just used a production PC with some GTX 680's in SLI. No, instead they daisy chained 4 PS3's.

It's better publicity to have Sony products doing it I guesss. It could also be a hint at some of the power of the PS4

My AMD Radeon HD 7950 @ 1Ghz (or incoming Radeon HD 8870) can run console game ports (with console detail settings) at ~8 megapixels.

4K UHD has a resolution of 3840 x 2160p (8.3 megapixels).

I'm currently running at 5760x1080p (6.2 megapixels via AMD Eyefinity) and console game ports are not a problem ATM.

AMD's "beyond HD" demo i.e. playing Grid PC @ 2560 x 1600p on AMD Radeon HD 4870 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jN_aGKt7uhw

#48 Posted by nameless12345 (15125 posts) -

How about making your game run in "proper" (meaning, not upscaled) 1080p first?

I like the idea of connecting four consoles and getting that res but I don't think the game (GT6?) will actually support that.

They demoed GT5 on four PS4s and a large res (4x 1080p) projector too btw.

(~200 GLFOPs from RSX + ~250 GFLOPs from CELL) x 4 = ~1800 GFLOPs which is about AMD Radeon HD 7850 level GPU (AMD Liverpool APU).
