GG consolites Total War: Warhammer is in the works

Apparently Creative Assembly is developing Total War: Warhammer. It's a rumor so far, but if it's true

We've known for a while that Creative Assembly has struck a deal with Games Workshop to create games in the Warhammer universe, but now we have evidence that a franchise-themed spin off for Total War will be announced imminently.

That's according to a note by Creative Assembly creative director Mike Simpson in a new Total War artbook, and while the book doesn't release officially until later this month, one Total War fan has gained access to the book early.

Discussing the future of the Total War series, Simpson referenced both Total War: Kingdom and Total War: Warhammer as examples of how the studio intends to experiment with multiplayer in the future. Judging by the timing of the book's release date, we're likely to hear from Creative Assembly and publisher SEGA about the spin-off in the coming weeks.

Some quarters of PC Gamer are so excited about the prospect of a Creative Assembly-helmed Warhammer game that they've put together enthusiastic wishlists for it. It is indeed a tantalising prospect, but it's not likely to arrive before Total War: Attila rolls out next month.

I know there was a LOTR mod for Medieval 2. I thought I saw a Warhammer one but I don't remember.

This has been rumored since SEGA got the license, so nothing surprising there.

This is a video game with depth and thinking: and not a 4 hour movie.

So why is this a GG for consolites? All of Creative Assembly's Total War games have been good. None of them gave a 'GG' feeling to those who missed out on them. And from time to time, Creative Assembly is known to release a buggy mess of a game.

Besides, ALL of the Total War games still have an age old flaw - the units have mobility issues. They can't respond to quick changes in movement commands. All the units in a group move like they were super glued to one another. Trying to get a whole regiment to walk up and down a defensive wall is a complete disaster

There is one based on old Storm of Chaos campaign called Call of Warhammer. But it got the hammer from GW and changed its name to something else.

Shit, Medieval 2 has Zelda mod too; it's one of those games that is still active solely because of the modding community.

They only really know about halogearsforza, cod, and unfarted. Rental crap.

Called it years ago, when Sega got the Warhammer fantasy IP from GW :)

There are still flaws in formation movement, walls being the most obvious.

In reality though moving regiments across a battle field, especially wheeling was always a difficult thing to do and needed very disciplined troops to carryout formation manoeuvres. Basically why most 'Barbarian' societies fought in mass groups rather than formation such as Hoplites or Legionnaires. By the time the machine gun was invented and set formation were rendered unviable, troops had been getting trained in battlefield drills for hundreds of years (they still are today for discipline and ceremonial purposes). In any game, especially one based in ye olde times it should be fairly difficult to turn and move formations with better troops being more proficient than militias or auxiliaries.

TW:Warhammer makes perfect sense and should have happened a long time ago.

I'll definitely get it (when it's $15 and has a year's worth of patches on top of it).

This doesn't come as a surprise to me. SEGA got the Warhammer license awhile back (maybe when THQ went under?) and it has always made a lot of sense to make a Total War game of the Warhammer series.

Though I would rather it be 40k. 40k is just so unbelievably ridiculous it makes for extremely fun video games.

Didn't we already know this? When THQ went to the wall Sega got the rights for the Warhammer License but that was only for Warhammer Fantasy not 40K as Games Workshop are incredibly selective about their brands. A Total War version of the Fantasy license was a shoe-in from the word go.

Which is f*cked up because a lot of younger generation, especially those who are not in UK, US or Canada, got into 40K through Relic games.

I'm a consolite and I used to play the tabletop game years ago. Back when Chaos included Warriors, Beastmen, and Daemons before they were broken up into separate armies.

I check the Warseer forums occasionly and it appears that combined lists are making a comeback with the Endtimes story arc.

So knowing about warhammer is determined by what platform you you play. There have been warhammer games on consoles too as far back as ps1.

Good for the fans. That being said, don't have any real interest in it.

Most of the comments here are proving why everyone dislikes PC gamers. I'm a Console gamer (and have been for 26 years) and I know what Warhammer is from the old to the new titles. On top of that, how is this relevant? Are we using rumors as "ownage" or proof now? Nobody cares. The comments about Uncharted, Halo, Gears, etc. are funny. Just shows how insecure you are. I mean, really, how often do you literally go around looking for console ports? GTAV? RDR? Fable? Need I go on? All the time. Just a depressing group of people.

Hopefully it won't be an online game but full fledged Single player game with strong multiplayer like Shogun 2. If they managed to pull it off, then it's going to be amazing. Total War style giant battles between different races on battlefield and big campaign map that will have different areas occupied by Elves, Dwarves, Humans, trolls etc with their own units. Epic!
