I agree both Killzone & Ryse look good (Ryse crowned graphic king) but they do indeed look generic.

It is, Killzone is terrible & it's only still alive because Sony try to keep pushing it as their flagship shooter

1 was a failed Halo killer, 2 was another failed Halo killer, 3 was a bomb & forgotten in a week

Gears is generic! KZ is generic. Both are shooters, both shoot guns. I prefer the guns in KZ though, more gun porn like.

Holy shit this site is slow, it ate my post.

Yeah Those were good, thankfully before the age of 360 and the cover shooter.

This isn't even epic however, just a hack from judgement. lol.

LOL unimaginable levels of irony going on here.

And Gears of War isn't?

kek

both franchises are generic and shitty. at least gears is somewhat fun to play though.

#12 Posted by treedoor (7648 posts) -

He ain't lying

But Sony fans love their generic shooters. Why else do you think Sony focuses so much on making so many of them?

I wouldn't say the new footage from KZ SF looks generic at all, they really have a beautiful artstyle going, the gameplay looks varied as well with multiple ways to tackle objectives and to move throughout the level. level design seems to have received a major boost.

Huge, huge step over the last 2 killzone games.

graphics look great, artstyle looks crappy, gameplay looks meh. killzone just doesnt do it for me and im willing to put up with a lot when it comes to fps games

Sounds like someone who'd be in the know. Still, I had more fun with KZ2 than any Gears title.

#16 Posted by slaves (1281 posts) -

I'm sorry but I'll take Killzone over Gears any day.

#18 Posted by TheTruthIsREAL (761 posts) -

@mems_1224: gears was terrible. When I bought a 360,even though being a big ps fan, I wanted to see what I was missing and... Gears was so boring to me, I didn't even get passed the 2nd part.. When you're on a boat fighting some crap monsters. It was a borefest. Killzone was interesting.

Gotta love hypocrites.

When Gears of War first came out there were barely any cover based TPS around. It redefined the entire genre, it was more imitated than pretty much any other game last gen. That's not being generic thats being influential.

Like Gears was somehow not the generic dude bro-game of TPS's. Gears saving grace was the MP done by one of the best devs in the industry for such things (Epic themselves).

Gears more or less pioneered the whole "dude-bro TPS" thing. The original Gears was not generic when it first came out.

Better question when the F*ck did Ryse get crown Graphics King?. On topic I pretty sure Gears was also Generic also.

What's worse is that this is not even the developer of the first 3 but Judgement.

"But Gears of War: Judgment developer Andrian Chmielarz thinks they look “generic”. Voicing his opinion on Twitter, Chmielarz says: “I looked at the PS4/XBO launch titles, and …nothing. Both Killzone and Ryse gameplay on YouTube reeks of generic.”

I`ll give gears the overall nod for fun multiplayer, both extremely generic.

#31 Edited by Xaero_Gravity (8748 posts) -

I don't think people understand how to properly use the term "generic". It's the new "irony".

#32 Edited by I_can_haz (6551 posts) -

Funny thing is that it's not even Cliffy B the original maker of Gears 1-3 sayin this, it's the creator of the craptacular Gears Judhment (7.5 lol) saying this. Sweet irony at its finest.

I haven't played that yet but it looks pretty awesome

Seems like all FPSes and TPSes are "generic" nowadays. Atleast KZ SF is not a twitch-floaty shooter like the rest of them.

#35 Edited by B-apples (71 posts) -

Neither series is generic unless you break them down to their simplest form.

That word gets misused way too much.

#36 Edited by NeonNinja (17318 posts) -

Hell yeah Shadowfall looks generic. As soon as I saw the first video they showed for the PS4 I was rolling my eyes. On the other hand you have games like Titanfall and Destiny that actually look like they're trying to break from the mold.

#37 Posted by RR360DD (11979 posts) -

Yeah, I don't need a dev to tell me RushZone looks generic. Its as generic as they come.

You gotta admit it though: third person shooters have far more gameplay capabilities than first person. Just look at Lost Planet and Vanquish. Compare that to Halo, COD, KZ.

Love the irony here.

I always liked how KZ's guns were kinda weighty. Felt powerful.

I love how Cows are butthurt over his statement, and are acting like it isn't 100% true and every single one of you knows it.

Ignoring that he also, (rightfully so) called Ryse generic

Every single Cow ITT knows Killzone is generic. But, (to quote someone else), Cows are contractually obligated to care about Killzone.

#43 Edited by thegamer00 (131 posts) -

Killzone series is one of the most generic shooter series of all time. Only behind Resistance.

#44 Posted by Wasdie (49995 posts) -

Generic is the most meaningless term to label a video game. Applies for all games equally.

It is funny how people seem to associate generic with bad, just because it is generic does not mean it is mediocre
