After finishing Dark Souls recently I began to think about this through my second playthrough. What games out there do you wish you could go back and experience again like you did the first time? That sense of amazement, discovery and unpredictibility that can only be experienced the first time through the game.

For me obviously one is Dark Souls if you didn't figure that out by now. Another is Shadow of the Colossus, trying to figure out how to take down each beast and where to go with that sense of discovery can never be reclaimed after beating it

Link to the Past. What an intro to gaming :) Also the Baldur's Gate series. Best RPGs I ever played. Though I could always play through the saga again as a different char :D

At least a dozen from this gen, there's been so many amazing games. Pretty much any game that deserves to be replayed.

Resident Evil 4. That games intensity stands the test of time on replay. I can only imagine what it must have felt like the first time. Game is just greatness all around.

The Legend of Zelda OoT.

I will never forget the first time i saw Hyrule field...it truly felt like a real world was in front of me ready to be conquered, also the final boss battle is one of those moments when i realiced how much i love this industry, it wasn't a boss battle, it was the culmination of the biggest journey i've had in my gamer life.

Chrono Trigger.

Metroid Prime.

Resident Evil 4.

FFVIII.

The King of Fighters 96.

Kotor 1 and 2, Dragon Age, Mass Effect, Final Fantasy X, Shadow Hearts Covenent, Oblivion, Skyrim, Metal Gear Solid 4 and Zelda Oot. Those are the few games that have totally engrossed me that I just couldn't wait to get back to playing them. I would love to be able to relive those moments of joy, of that first time experience.

Dark Souls I got so deeply into stat-obsession and optimizing that I stopped appreciating the game. It would be awesome to be able to go back to that "innocence" of the first time and reexperience it all over again.

Journey. Journey. Journey.

That game was utterly magical and truly wonderous the first time I played it. It's still a great experience playing it now, but the novelty of traveling through the world with one other, the beautifully vast, barren and haunting enviroments, the connection and feeling of intimacy to your partner, the freedom of flight, etc is just not as much there. Plus everyone has a white cloak now which lessens the need for cooperation and altruism which is what made it so awesome to begin with. I don't mean to get overly sentimental here, but that "game" moved me more than any I've ever played and if there's one game I that I could go back and do all over again from nothing, that'd be it without consideration.

Agreed. It's all about how much damage I can do now and I know all the patterns and enemy placements more or less.

Also that feeling of when you explore around and have so many paths to take and gates to open and you go down one to open a gate and realise you're back at firelink shrine or the undead burg. Those moments to me were amazing, when you realised how the whole world is totally open and all links back together in some way. When before that felt sort of linear just trudging along one path all the time.

Now I know where to go and where all the paths lead me, the novelty of that is gone forever
